Foreword

Basic Practical English is a program designed for the

process of teaching-learning American English. It is assumed
that the learners have no previous knowledge of this language.
This program is made of eight levels that will help students
develop oral and written communication skills to an
intermediate - advanced level.

Basic practical English follows the functionalist

approach, that is, English is taught according to the
communicative functions of the language. According to this, the
language is presented in contexts similar to those people find in
everyday life. We believe that teaching is most effective when
learners are gradually introduced to situations where they use
the language to perform communication functions. The
progress of learning is focused on the integration or skills
(listening, speaking, reading, and writing)

This book is based on a long experience in the

teaching of English as a foreign language to children, teenagers
and adults. We hope to make a contribution to education and
personal growth, since English is a tool for the communication
and understanding of culture, science, technology,
entertainment and people.
