Instructional Procedures

Focusing Event: Chant the sheet music along with the students on the Elmo using “ta” “ti” and
“tipi tipi”. Students can tap their hand or fingers on their desk to help keep the beat as well.

Teaching/ Learning Procedures:

 Play activity with with students. Ask them to all stand up and push their chairs in, and
move to the carpet. If the teacher calls out “ta” students need to stand alone on the carpet
to represent one note. If teacher calls out ti-ti, students must link arms with another
student to represent 2 notes. Finally, if teacher calls out ti-pi-ti-p, students must find a
group of 4 to link arms with.
 Pass out sheet music to all of the students and do through the first line with them
counting the notes.
 Have students get into pairs. Explain directions to students. They will need to count the
notes of each measure, and put the number above the measure. Then, students will need
to count each line of measures. And write the total number of notes at the end of each
line.
 Students will turn in their sheet music up at the front of the classroom to be graded.

Formative Check (ongoing or specific): Walk around the room when students are
working with a partner to ensure they understand directions.
Reteach (alternative used as needed): If reteach is necessary on addition work in a small group
with students who are struggling and go over simple addition facts.

Closure: Hand students a notecard, and have them write their favorite part of the lesson, and
what they feel they need to work
on.______________________________________________________________________

students in small group and work with them as they count notes
SPED/ELL: Provide students with colored sheet music. Each note be a different color to make it
easier to see each note individually.
ELL: Have a poster on the wall that has the different notes drawn onto it, and above the notes
write the corresponding number.
