Some time ago I posted a range of alternative Odu names in a

normal message. In the meantime I’ve added more to the
collection, but I couldn’t find the original message anymore. So
I’ve created a document/file - these are much easier to find,
provided that one looks for them, of course (grin)! After some
twenty years online, having been a member of dozens of groups,
lists and forums and having managed a lot of them myself, I
noticed that many Babalawos use alternative Odu names to hide
the easier “standard names” from the great unwashed. This is a
sad state of affairs, which has no place in Independent Ifa Practice,
nor in this group. So those of you who are new to alternative
names: enjoy! And those of you who know more: please add them
in comments so I can incorporate them in the list.

There are many alternative names for the various

Odu Ifa, which can be very confusing even to the
experienced Babalawo. Below I give you some of
these names and their better known equivalents..
Please be aware that there are hundreds more,
what I show you here is just those I happen to know… Some alternatives are
in Yoruba, some are in other languages, due to the fact that Ifa divination
isn’t confined to Yoruba or Nigeria at all: in fact it’s widely spread over the
whole of West-Africa, not to mention the world! And there’s one thing I can
promise you: this list will steadily grow!
