Short summary of This project aims to broaden and deepen the knowledge of the
your project idea (10 possibilities of tablets for classroom differentiation and inclusion. In
lines) an exploratory study we finished in spring 2015, we analysed 19
Flemish good practices. A remarkable conclusion was that all good
practices were similar, mainly focusing on differentiation on the
content- and process-level. We hardly found any examples of
differentiating on the interest-level nor on the product-level. We also
have particular interest in using the tablet for the inclusion-purpose
for pupils with specific educational needs.
This project aims to explore good practices in different EU-countries.
We also want to ‘fill the gaps’, and create new educational designs in
international teacher-design-teams following the design-based-
research-methodology. This will also broaden and deepen the
expertise of participants and school-teams in order to realize
educational innovation.

Project title From qualification framework to online course
Short summary of your The project would look at the role ICT Departments and Teachers
project idea (10 lines) play in the development of online courses and learning environments
through a combination of action research, reflection reports and
qualitative research.

Part of the project would be devoted at looking at the outcomes of

PISA 2012 (using the existing data and replicating/adapting the
research at different levels of education).

Cooperation with non-EU countries (eg. Kenya, Korea, Namibia,

Suriname, Tanzania,..) would broaden the perspective and allow for
an exchange of ideas, staff and researchers beyond the established
intra-European cross-pollination. Whereas the focus of the project
would of course be on European partnerships - in terms of
implementation, dissemination and exploitation of the results - the
non-EU countries suggested are added (as H2020 projects are one
to a wide range of countries) to broaden the perspective of the
project in terms of exchange of good practices, experiences and
possible future applications from areas in the world where online
learning is often a necessity (e.g. in terms of distance or
infrastructure or even costs) to lower the barriers to education and
to allow self-paced learning and because of the developmental
benefits of such initiatives.
The countries listed in our summary proposal have already taken
steps towards inclusive online or blended learning (for less-
advantaged) groups of learners and can provide added perspectives.
In our final proposal we will limit ourselves to one country outside
the EU that best fits the overall and elaborated proposal.

Tentative list of activities:

1) Looking in innovative ways at assessing the EFFICIENCY and

EFFECTIVENESS of ICT-supported learning within the boundaries of
(national) qualification frameworks.
2) Looking in innovative ways at assessing LEARNING OUTCOMES of
ICT-supported learning as an integral part of (national) qualification
frameworks
3) School ICT-staff and Teaching Staff Mobility to exchange
experiences with colleagues in (non-) EU partner countries (non-EU
only under H2020)
4) Support the research with scholarship / internship funding for
university researchers
5) Establishing best-practices based on the above
6) Develop guidelines for online course design that is effective and
efficient in regards to learning outcomes
7) Pilot project in several (non-) EU countries
8) Series of workshops "From qualification framework to online
course"

Project title International multi-level Monitoring system for blended learning
practices
Short summary of To achieve optimal comparability and actionable progress indicators of
your project idea (10 e-learning and blended learning practices across the European Union,
lines) this project aims at conceptualizing and operationalizing a long-term
monitoring system. It gathers an international expert panel from
academia and educational practitioners to produce a survey-based
system to be deployed by field workers in higher and secondary
education. The system aims at monitoring blended learning activities
and gauging related self-assessments on a regular basis, in different
educational programs, targeting both the teacher and learner’s
experiences and views on various facets of blended learning (such as
course persistence, motivational and performance factors, technology
evaluations, ..). Using multiple standardized dimensions and
indicators, a considerable amount of concrete data stemming from
several countries can recurrently be gathered and analysed to support
educational policy-making and schools’ instructional efforts, and to
stimulate cross-country progress and exchange of best-practices.

Short summary of Address the issue of the benefits and impacts of ICT, more precisely,
your project idea (10 of Web 2.0 (social networks) in the non-formal and informal learning
lines) skills of individuals as factor of employability in organizations, and
arises from the perception of the current situation that the society of
the twenty-first century has experienced. Unemployment rates have
increased, and individuals who cannot afford courses offered by
formal learning institutes, tend by themselves, or with their peers,
acquire skills required from a labor market in constant change.
Therefore, in Portugal, according to data from the National Institute
of Statistics, the population Unemployed estimated at 712,000
people, of which 286,000 are part young aged between 15 and 34
years. In response to this situation, this project pretends to identify
and explore digital 2.0 tools which will potentiate learning skills
required for the labor market. It will also identify and make a
proposal of sets of competencies to develop by adult learners
answering the needs of the labor market.
The Project will define and implement in a pilot action a reference
guide of the skills that can ensure the employability of working-age
adults, through the development of non-formal and informal learning
throughout life in order to certify people with the skills required by
the labour market and their relevance for the economy and

Project title Researching alternative learning environments to help students
succeed and achieve graduation
Short summary of Over the last years, the student inflow in teacher education in
your project idea (10 Flanders became more diverse, resulting in a student cohort with
lines) decreased content-specific knowledge and essential general (study)
competences. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult for
these pre-service teachers to pass the first year of their study, let
alone to obtain a diploma. Therefore the University College Ghent
decided to rethink the curriculum of the bachelor teacher training of
(pre-)primary education and to engage more in teaching methods
such as problem-directed assignments or working in peer groups;
and to enhance self-regulated learning strategies. In this context, we
would like to conduct a remediation project by designing an online
learning environment which is adapted to the needs of our incoming
students. In particular, we want to offer our students a set of digital
learning tools that matches their learning needs and is congruent
with their learning phase.
Type of partners We would like to partner with other teacher educators who are facing
wanted? (type of the same challenges or who already have extensive experience in this
organisation and domain. Together, we can research and create sustainable solutions
expertise) that will help us make further progress in our goal to provide adapted

instruct in an alternative way in order to compare experiences and
outcomes.

Short summary of Thin participating culture in school and passive learning culture has
your project idea (10 been characteristic for Finnish schools, but also for many other
lines) European schools (see e.g. ICCS-studies). Nevertheless, democratic
culture and its values are the strongest basis for both structures and
everyday life in EU. However, schools has changed very slowly
towards more active culture even if there has been lot of different
projects at local, national and European level.
This project stresses new learning environments and technology-
based tools in the learning processes and especially in the life of a
school community. Where developing the active citizenship in school
has been based on forms of representativeness, technology gives
possibilities to develop bottom-up activities of democracy in school.
Different kind of “on line” applications (voting systems, open
discussion, open decision-making processes, voice for pupil) could be
reality in schools from technological viewpoints.

Technology also makes possible students’ ownership towards their

own learning when they have more influence in their own learning
process, like discussing with other students and teachers on the
contents and methods of learning. Technology makes possible the
voice of students in the school, if teachers and head teachers are
willing for it. It also makes possible not only participate for the
school’s culture, but also for the developing of their own
neighborhood (democracy as a way of life).

In this project new ICT tools will be developed for the use of
education for democracy (primary and secondary schools). These
tools will be also tested in school(s).

Project title Creative, collaborative improvisation with technology to support
learning and innovation
Short summary of The project idea focuses on research, development and
your project idea (10 experimentation with smart learning environments, especially based
lines) on networked mobile technologies, to filter, consolidate and transfer
improvisations between different user groups: learners, teachers,
educators, workplace professionals and practitioners.

The aim is to use networked mobile technology-based improvisational

tools and materials to support:
a. the learning of improvisation techniques and recognising creative
or commercial potential in spin-off activities;
b. consolidating and transferring improvisations and spin-off
outcomes from one learning/workplace situation to another where
creative or commercial potential might be realised;
c. developing new innovative learning avenues or business ideas.

The project will:

- Research and develop ICT, namely networked mobile technologies
(e.g., smartphones, tablets, apps, websites, social media; note!
including applying the opportunities and combinations of existing
tools) for teachers, learners, educationalists, workplace professionals,
trainers, and other personnel, that target and facilitate improvisation
in developing the creative potential of underutilized learning and
workplace practices;
- Undertake research interventions with networked mobile
technology-based improvisational tools while simultaneously refining
their use in a diversity of learning situations and workplaces (i.e.,
schools, teacher education, museum education, vocational education,
science centers, companies);
Through research interventions we will:
- Investigate combinations of various learning situations (formal,
non-formal, informal, learning in the workplace) with networked
mobile technologies to establish generalized characteristics of
learning through improvisation that might be incorporated into tools;
- Develop networked mobile technology-based tools to ‘open-up’
learning and workplace practice by provoking, capturing, filtering and
consolidating improvisations and transferring them to different
situations where their under-utilised potential might be developed.
- Disseminate the research findings and the networked mobile
technology-based improvisational tools with support material through
professional and academic networks, workshops, conference
presentations, and publications.

Short summary of “Active citizenship” is a key competence in the European knowledge
your project idea (10 economy (cfr. European Commission). Yet, international research
lines) has shown that young people do not show interest in traditional
politics and lack the knowledge and skills to participate in the public
mediatized debate (ICCS, 2009) in which they are confronted with
many different – often conflicting – perspectives. To prepare
teachers for dealing with this new reality, rhetoric is often proposed
as an important topic in teacher training. Specifically argumentation
theory and the accompanying communication skills can help people
to understand, analyze and frame messages and opinions. The main
goal of this research project is to develop research about and create
a prototype for a game or interactional tool that can improve
citizenship education, by helping young people to grasp and practice
the basic principles of rhetoric and argumentation theory.

Short summary of The intention of the proposed project is to design and test appropriate
your project idea (10 modules for a teacher-training course, which enables teachers to

science teaching, to adapt best-practice examples of those
environments to their own teaching, and to evaluate their own
teaching afterwards. For this purpose, it will use already existing
experiences of the different project partners. This project wants to
establish a new and flexible teacher-training course that is useful in
all participating but also in other countries. It will show that
discussing and judging the quality of mobile teaching and learning is
an actual question in all European countries.

classroom activities and outside. This is especially true with respect to
getting girls and boys interested to study science, and motivated to
get acceptable learning results. Recent research results from science
education show, that there are good chances for improving the
classroom practice if the materials are appropriately used and
adapted to the specific needs within the schools. A transfer of those
results into teaching practice within Europe would be useful and
should be organised by this project. Since teaching practice differs
within the different European countries, it will be developed as a
concept of culture oriented support activities. International scientists
and teachers, experienced within this field, could work together and
adapt their nationally oriented ideas and research results to other
needs.
