PHRASAL VERBS: GO

A phrasal verb is a combination of one verb and one or more prepositions.


Phrasal verbs have a different meaning to that of the main verb used.

In this session we are going to look at different Phrasal verbs with ‘GO’.

TO GO ABOUT SOMETHING To continue doing something; to keep busy with something.

TO GO ALONG WITH SMBDY To agree with someone

TO GO AWAY To leave a place

TO GO DOWN WITH SMTH To become ill / sick with something.

TO GO FOR SOMETHING To choose something (among options)

TO GO OFF To explode, to be fired

TO GO OFF Talking about an alarm : to make a sudden loud noise

TO GO OFF Talking about electricity, a light: to stop working

TO GO OFF Talking about food: to become bad or not fit to eat or drink

TO GO ON TO DO SMTH To do something after completing something else

TO GO OUT WITH SMBDY To be in a relationship with somebody

TO GO OVER SOMETHING To examine or explore something carefully

TO GO THROUGH WITH SMTH To do what is necessary to complete something that is


especially difficult or unpleasant

TO GO UNDER To go below the surface

TO GO UNDER (informal) to go bankrupt

TO GO WITHOUT (SMTH) To manage without something that you usually have or need
