Prof. Edwin R. Abucay

Assistant Professor, College of Human Ecology
University of the Philippines – Los Baños

Dear Prof. Abucay,

Greetings!

The Civil engineering Executive Organization (CEO) is a duly recognized academic

organization based in the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology
(CEAT) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). For the past eighteen years,
CEO has continued to realize its goal of promoting academic and professional
excellence in all of its endeavors, thus molding its members’ potentials of becoming
socially responsible engineers. With the vision “seeing the bright future in Civil
Engineering,” the organization will remain to fulfill its mission as an academic
organization to contribute proficiently not just to its fellow engineering students but to
the whole Philippine society as well.

In our pursuit to broaden the knowledge and understanding of engineering and other
related fields, the organization will be holding the Engineering Seminar 2019: Urban
Planning and Sustainable Development with the theme, Masterplan: Redesigning the
Philippine Urban Network through Smart and Innovative Engineering towards a
Sustainable Development, as part of Engineering Congress 2019 this February 9-10,
2019.

In line with this, we would like to invite you to be one of the speakers for the said event,
for whichever session that best fits your time schedule. The Engineering Seminar 2019
will be held on February 9, 2019, 8 AM (morning session) and 1 PM (afternoon session)
at the D.L. Umali Hall, UPLB. Your participation would be of great honor for you and for
our advocacy.

Engineering Congress is an integration of an Engineering Seminar, CEO Fair and an

Engineering Exhibit to our national activity entitled “Executives’ Challenge: A National
Intercollegiate Engineering Science Quiz Contest”. The annual event is attended by
engineering students from different colleges and universities in the country, as well as
members of the academe and professionals from different fields of engineering in the
industry. Engineering Congress is now on its fourteenth year.

Attached herewith is the overview of the Engineering Congress 2019.

ENGINEERING CONGRESS 2019

Executive’s Challenge

The Executives’ Challenge is an annual national intercollegiate engineering science

quiz contest that is open to all colleges and universities in the country that offer
engineering courses. The event will serve as a venue for engineering students to test
their knowledge on different engineering principles through healthy and fair
competition. Also, it will serve as a venue for interaction among the participants, to
exchange valuable knowledge and insights in engineering and other related fields. For
this year’s installment of the Engineering Congress, the Executive’s Challenge will be
held on February 10, 2019 at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium, CEAT, UPLB, with
expected 70 teams coming from different colleges and universities across the nation to
participate and take the challenge. Contest prizes include P70,000 for the 1st place
plus a special prize for the school, P30,000 for the 2nd place, and P10,000 for the 3rd
place.

Engineering Seminar

The Engineering Seminar is an annual conference that is open to all engineering

students from different colleges and universities in the country, as well as members of
the academe and professionals. Through the years, the Engineering Seminar has
encompassed several engineering topics such as wind engineering, green
engineering, safety engineering, and engineering and entrepreneurship, and has
invited several notable speakers to give lectures on their respective fields in
engineering. This year’s seminar will focus on Urban Planning and Sustainability
Development.

The lecture series presented in the Seminar will involve the delegates in an interactive
venue for sharing innovative ideas. Similar with a scientific discourse, the delegates may
further develop their knowledge about urban planning and sustainable development
by interacting with teachers, professionals, and other students coming from different
parts of the country. This seminar may also serve as a bridge between the professionals
and the students to share the current situations observed in their community in which
engineering practices can be applied.
