Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right

Goal :
Teenager in the street situation can access sexual and reproductive health’  clinic
Teenager in the street situation awareness about SRHR increased

Problem :
Most teenagers in street situations are sexually active. Unfortunately awareness of
the importance of maintaining reproductive and sexual health is still low. They are
not aware with the risk of any disease that can be experienced, such as HIV and
various sexually transmitted diseases.
In addition, some young women also experience unplanned pregnancies at a fairly
young age. They have not yet realized that getting pregnant at a young age is quite
risky for uterine health. Also the importance of family planning to reduce the risk of
pregnancy and provide distance between pregnancies.
One of the example of Harapan Fian assistance. There is 19-year-old teenager
named Yani, who experienced a second pregnancy. Yani do not have an identity so
she had difficulty accessing health facilities. We provide assistance in checking the
health of the womb until the birth process. We help arrange health government
health security (Jaminan Kesehatan Sosial). Yani gave birth to a daughter normally
on November 20, 2018 at the Jetis health center (Puskesmas). Yani and her child are
in good health.
Harapan Fian takes a persuasive approach to adolescents in street situations to
care about their own sexual and reproductive health. The approach is carried out
personally in private conversations so that they feel safe and comfortable. We also
conduct discussions per group of men and women.

Progress:
Some young women have courage to talk about their sexual and reproductive
health issues. Unfortunately male adolescents have not been open in terms of
sexual and reproductive health. They may feel embarrassed and reluctant to talk
about this.
Harapan Fian assist 3 young mother to get women contraception.
Health Assistance  (Vaccines/other diseases)
Goal
Children can access health clinic.
Problem
The children can not go to health clinic because they do not have an identity and
because of that can not register as patient. Harapan Fian should assist them to go
to clinic so that they get the clinic services.
In December, the colleagues of Harapan Fian assisted babies vaccines for Nabila
(Yani’s baby) and Anindira (Rani’s baby). But, Anindira didn’t get vaccine because
her body was not good. That case happened with Dira (Rani’s first daughter), she
failed to get vaccine for the reason that fever. Nabila got BCG vaccine in that month.
BCG is a vaccine primarily used againts tuberculosis (TB). The doctor said Nabila is
going to get DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus) vaccine in next month, January.
In the same time, Rani registered to check up Dira health. Both of children got
medicines from the pharmacy. In those assistance, Rara and Firtya assisted them
exactly in December 17, 2018.
We assisted Rani in January 14, 2018 as the last problem during three months. We
went to the clinic on Monday, the vaccine day for babies and children under five.
Progress
The children got vaccines in time if they had good condition and well bodies. We
pushed teenager who have children to immunize them in accordance with specified
schedule from doctor. They do not depend on Harapan Fian financially. They paid at
all by themselves to go to clinic.
Children gathering

A. Fun Learning
Goal : Children have a play time.

Discussion (Problem & Update):

Fun learning have two main target. They are children in the street situation and
children who live near shelter. Fun learning have very simple goal. It is giving
children time to play in creative way. We believe if children have playing time, they
will give playing time to their children in the future.
We conducted fun learning program 5 time. We create some type of program such
as children music, pantomime, making hand puppet doll, and bracelets. We
collaborate with artist and musician to run the program. There is around 20 children
participate in the program. They are 5 years old till 12 years old. Children around
shelter have limited space to play. Indoor playground is one of the medium for them
to play. Children is very excited to attend in our program and they very active to
involve in the program.

Progress:
Children who live near shelter know about Harapan Fian.
B. Children in the street situation Meeting
Goal : Good collaboration with children in street situation for Harapan Fian’
programs

Discussion (Problem & Update):

Harapan Fian organize regular meeting with children in the street situation. Children
in the street situation is the main program subject of Harapan Fian’ programs. Some
of them stay in the shelter. We organize the meeting at least once a month. There
are around 15 children participate in the regular meeting.
We start the meeting with cleaning the shelter. We divide children in some group
and assign them place to clean up. The staff help and explain them what is clean
and how to clean the place properly. After cleaning the shelter, we go to warung
around the shelter and we have lunch together. While we have lunch we make
discussion. We take daily topic about shelter, daily life problem and program. The
meeting with children give us in depth understanding about their life and problem
and also connection each other.

Progress:
Most of the discussion start from daily problems. The children solve the problem by
making new rules.
Tittle :
Education
Goal :
• Additional learning for national exam preparation (6th grade)
• Non formal education for children who drop out of school
• Creative and fun learning for children (other than 6th grade)
Problem :
The 6th graders will face a national exam that determines their graduation. Some
parents find it difficult to assist their children for exams preparation. They ask
Harapan Fian to teach their children. Beside the 6th grade elementary school
students, there are also other class children who want to be helped in doing
homework. There are 2 learning locations, namely Suryowijayan village and Badran
village. The two areas are slum areas and some of the residents work as workers on
the road.
There are also teenagers who study in non-formal schools. Her name Fitri. Fitri is 18
years old and she is on B package (equivalent to junior high school) in PKBM
Mandiri. Fitri dropped out of school since graduating from elementary school. Fitri
had difficulties in learning because her family did not support her education. Fitri
wants to have a school certificate to make it easier to find jobs.
Progress:
Learning is held every Thursday afternoon at Suryowijayan. There are 2 groups: 6th
grade elementary school students who study national exam lessons and children
other than 6th grade elementary school with creative learning classes. There are 2
children who study national exam lessons. Whereas there are around 10 children in
the creative learning group.
On Badran, study is held every Saturday afternoon. There are 2 6th grades
elementary school students who study national exam subjects.
Children who study B package in non formal school, Fitri, take the final semester
exam on 11 December 2018. Fitri is a grade 3 junior high school student who will face
the national exam in 2019. At present we are preparing to assist Fitri in preparing for
the national exam.
Advocacy Identity
Goal: Children get identity (birth certificate, family card etc)

Discussion (Problem & Update):

In November-January 2019, Harapan Fian assist two family, Baya and Rani Family.
Harapan Fian assist every case differently because both of them have different
problem. Baya Family lost their identity because they did not manage
administration migration when they went back to Yogyakarta after failed on
Transmigration program in Ambon, Maluku. Baya is 5th children from the family. All
of the family do not have identity and it is been more than 17 years.
Rani family have different background, She left by his brother in the street since
child. She lost contact with her parents. She has 2 children now, baby and 2 years
old daughter.
We went to some government department that related with identity case such as
Social Department, Public administration department, Police and local village
organizer. It is good news for Baya family, after several meetings with Social
department and public administration. The government grant them form to be filled.
If local village organizer sign that form, Baya and family will get new identity. It will
take 1 year for them to get identity.
Unfortunately, Rani family have different path. Social department hesitate to take
her case because she is over 18 yo. It is irrational reason but harapan fian can not
argue. Rani need to convince local village organizer to accept Rani as their society
member. It is bit difficult because Rani only stay at kos, a place which is not consider
as permanent resident.

Progress:
Harapan Fian assist 2 family or 9 people in the street situation. 6 of them got a grant
for next step to get identity.
Children in The Street Situation Camping
Goal
Camping with teenager and children in street situations established.

Problem
Before camping began, we discuss with the colleagues and volunteers what will we
do in the camping. We decided to go camping, because picnic is not effective to
spending time together. Camping came out as an idea to get more quality time with
the children.
We combine discussion and games in the camping. In the discussion, we divide the
children into boy and girl group to create safe space. In each group we discussed
about cleanliness for daily life, security in shelter, sex education, gender equality,
and discourse of Harapan Fian for women’s shelter. Firtya and Rara facilitated for
girls group, meanwhile Didin and Robist led for boys group.
After discussion, we make art performance in the evening. Children divide into some
group randomly. All children participate the art performance actively. In the
morning, we do gymnastic which is lead by one of the children. After doing exercise
we play another game and clean up the villa after.
The last session of camping is visiting Tlogo Putri waterfall. They were happy see
waterfall and monkey jumping around.
Progress
We get more understanding about children perspective. They also gave a lot of
input to the Harapan Fian shelter. The teenager family said they were happy
because been able to spent times together with their children. In their daily activity,
they were too busy to work and just a little bit of time to picnic.
