---------------------------------------------------------------------
Check Service Level, controlled by the iSeries Access for Windows Properties
Service tab, will detect that the Service source directory has been
updated, and will present the user with the option to install the
service pack at startup time as well.
The APYPTF will update the iSeries Access for Windows install image directory
(\QIBM\ProdData\Access\Windows\Install\Image) on the
iSeries. Any client that installs iSeries Access for Windows (or selected
components) from this image will automatically receive this service
pack level (no extra steps or reboots). In this scenario, the
service pack cannot be uninstalled on the client PC
because it is merged in with the base release.
Running setupsp.bat from the iSeries Access for Windows install image
directory (\QIBM\ProdData\Access\Windows\Install\Image) will
launch the service pack install wizard. View setupsp.bat
via Notepad or Wordpad to see instructions on how to invoke setupsp.bat
to record or run a silent service pack install.
RMVPTF will restore your iSeries install image to the prior service
level (or the base release if there was no prior service pack
applied).
Before running this program, copy the service pack install image
files to a local drive on your PC or to any accessible network
drive. Once the install setup program has completed, you can then
remove the install image files from that drive.
1.3 COMBINING THE SERVICE PACK WITH AN iSeries ACCESS FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION
IMAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
The following method could be used if you downloaded the service pack
image from the iSeries Access for Windows web page location:
http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/iseries/clientaccess/casp.htm
The iSeries Access for Windows service pack PTFs are combined with
the original iSeries Access for Windows installation image in
QIBM\ProdData\Access\Windows\Install\Image
NOTE: this directory is a symbolic link to
QIBM\ProdData\CA400\Express\Install\Image
There is one physical directory - either of these paths will access the
directory.
This means that a user can install (or upgrade) iSeries Access for Windows
from this combined image directory and get the latest applied service
level automatically in one integrated step - since the original
installation image files have been replaced by updated versions via
the service pack PTF. Selectively installing components from this combined
image directory will also automatically get the latest applied service level
for that component.
If you tailored the iSeries Access for Windows install image to another
directory
(for instance, on another server), using the Create Tailored Installation Image
(cwbinimg.bat) tool, you can use the PTFFORM.EXE download
in the FTP directory to duplicate the function of applying the iSeries PTF by
following
these steps:
Now you have combined this service pack level with the iSeries Access for
Windows
installation image, so that users can install iSeries Access for Windows plus
this
service pack in one integrated step. Note that this procedure also works if
the installation image has already been combined with a prior service pack
level. This procedure will replace the prior service level in the combined
image with this new level.
Alternatively, if you have a full copy of the original iSeries Access for
Windows
install image in a directory, you can combine PTFFORM.EXE with this full image,
using the same 5-step procedure detailed above. Then you can run
Create Tailored Installation Image (cwbinimg.bat) from this full image
directory,
to create tailored image directories that will automatically have the service
pack
merged in.
2.0 RECOMMENDATIONS/RESTRICTIONS
---------------------------------
In V5R4M0, SQL Assist has been changed so that 'smart statement selection' can
be used to
pre-prime the SQL statement at the cursor position into the SQL Assist dialog.
In V5R3M0
and earlier, the user had to manually select the SQL statement that SQL Assist
would use.
The new design is similar to using 'smart statement selection' to execute an SQL
statement.
However, when 'smart statement selection' is enabled, the user will be unable to
position
the cursor at an arbitrary place in the script and start with a default SQL
statement in
SQL Assist. The SQL statement nearest the cursor position will be shown in the
SQL Assist dialog.
If the user wishes to use SQL Assist to insert a new statement into the script,
disable
'smart statement selection' with the 'Options/Smart Statement Selection' menu
item.
SQL Assist will appear with a default statement, or with the text that was
explicitly selected
as it would in V5R3M0.

APAR SE21629: CA400EXP-OPNAV-DBASE-WAIT LOCK NOT RELEASED BY EDIT CONTENTS
Editing a table in iSeries Navigator may leave a lock on the
file that cannot be removed unless iSeries Navigator is closed.
1. Right click on a table and select 'Edit Contents'.
2. Select the 'Rows/Insert' menu item to insert a row into the
table. Enter data into the columns of the table.
a) Or the user may update existing data or perform other operations.
3. Save the new data by selecting the 'File/Save' menu item.
4. Refresh the data by selecint the 'View/Refresh' menu item.
5. Exit the Edit Contents dialog.
6. A shared-read (*SHRRD) lock that iSeries Navigator acquired
for the table remains. The lock will be held by a QZDASOINIT
job associated with iSeries Navigator.
iSeries Navigator will release the lock when the 'Edit Contents'
dialog is closed.

APAR SE20631: CA400EXP-ODBC-INCORROUT BLOCK UPDATE FAILS WITH NO MESSAGE
Even though the iSeries Access for Windows ODBC driver does not support
block updates,
it still attempts to execute such operation when requested resulting in
unexpected
results. The driver should be reporting a 'Driver not capable' error when
asked
to execute block updates.
The iSeries Access for Windows ODBC driver was fixed to return the 'Driver
not capable'
warning message when attempting block updates.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Change the application to do not try block updates.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Uncheck the prefetch option.
CIRCUMVENTION:
If posible change the application to convert from SQL_C_FLOAT to SQL_DECIMAL
OLE DB PROVIDER
---------------
APAR SE21950: CA400EXP-OLEDB-INCORROUT SETTING PROPERTIES WITH SQL SERVER
The IBM iSeries Access for Windows OLEDB provider has a number
of properties which can be used to set connection and usage
behaviors. Some of these settings do not work properly. The
list below includes some of the problems you may encounter with properties:
- Force Translate
- Initial Catalog
- Sort Table
Force Translate
---------------
When the Force Translate property is set, the OLEDB Columns
Schema Rowset returns incorrect information about character
CCSID 65535 columns. When a subsequent query is run through
SQL Server using a linked server with Force Translate set,
SQL Server may report the following message:
Server: Msg 7356, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'IBMDA400' supplied inconsistent metadata for a
column. Metadata information was changed at execution time.
Initial Catalog
---------------
When setting this property on a SQL Server linked server
using the 'Provider string' text box, the following error is reported:
Error 7303: Could not initialize data source object of OLE DB
provider 'IBMDA400'. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider
'IBMDA400' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80040e21].
Setting the Initial Catalog using the 'Catalog' text box works without
error.
Sort Table
----------
The provider has an incorrect check for this property, so
attempting to set the Sort Table property fails.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Using the Microsoft OLEDB provider for ODBC drivers in
conjunction with an iSeries Access for Windows ODBC system data
source allows the equivalent properties to be set.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Do not use locators with LOBs. Set the MaximumInlineLobSize in
your ConnectionString to a value larger than the largest LOB you use.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Turn off connection pooling by setting "Pooling=false" in the
ConnectionString.
APAR SE20279: OSP-PAR PRINTER SESSION, FILE, PAGE SETUP, FORMS SETTING
Printer session, File, Page setup, Forms Setting,
Drawer-one form is not displaying all dimension options that are provided with
the
printer driver installed on the PC. This is on V5R1 Client Access with the
latest
service pack.
This will be fixed in service packs for V5R2 and beyond of iSeries Access for
Windows.
CIRCUMVENTION:
Control access to STRPCO and STRPCCMD commands
via iSeries authority permissions.
Those users that want to return to using a True Type Font or start using
a True Type Font for the first time, need to follow the instructions for the
Select Display Font dialog included in the following revised text from APAR
SE18848:
A change from raster (bitmap) fonts to True Type Fonts will be made. True
Type Fonts
are scalable and display text well at higher resolutions.
This new feature will be implemented only for English and West European
languages
(PC codepage 1252). No other languages will support these higher resolutions.
New monospaced True Type Fonts containing all the characters from the current
IBM3270 raster
font will be installed in the PC5250 installation folder.
-- PComm Session (pcommsess.ttf) (for displaying text)
-- PCOMMAPL (pcommapl.ttf) (for displaying APL characters like box drawing,
scrollbars, etc)
IBM3270 will still be the default font. The new
PComm Session font (pcommsess.ttf) will need to be selected by the user via the

OPERATIONS CONSOLE
------------------
APAR SE21607: CA400EXP-OPCON-INCORROUT OpNav service functions unavailable
The iSeries Navigator provides functions for managing disks and
logical partitions. When iSeries Navigator is used on a PC also
running Operations Console with a direct cable console
configuration to an iSeries, and the direct console is active,
the disk management (DM) and logical partition (LPAR) functions
can be accessed by doing the following:
-- In the "Environment tasks" side of the taskpad, choose "Open
iSeries Navigator service tools window".
-- In the resulting dialog, for the "Name or address" field fill in
the name of the connected direct cable console config from Operations
Console.
The user gets "CWBCO1004 Remote address could not be resolved."
CIRCUMVENTION:
To avoid the problem, specify the IP address of the direct
console config instead of the name. Usually this will be 192.168.0.2.
