NITTFEST ’19 - TAMIL LITS

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Sirukathai (6-4-2)
 Short story writing contest
 Individual event
 Each dept can make up to 3 submissions
 Topics will be released at the time of the event
 Time limit- 3 hrs
 Word limit- 3000
 English words are not allowed.
2. Kavisolai (6-4-2)
 Poem writing contest
 Individual event
 Each dept can make up to 3 submissions
 Topics will be released at the time of the event
 Time limit- 1 hr
 English words are not allowed.
3. Thiraipadam odiyum thiruviyam thedu (6-4-2)
 Quiz based on Tamil movies
 Qualifiers is a written round.
 Each dept is allowed to have 3 teams
 Each team should consist of three members
 The rules and details of the qualifiers and finals will be
disclosed at the time of the event.
 Questions will not be asked from dubbed movies and movies
which are yet to be released.
4. Naveena nagaichuvai (6-4-2)
 A comedy contest based in creativity.
 Each dept can be represented by only one team
 Each team should consist of three members
 Qualifiers- concept round
 Props should not be used
 Use of abusive content will not be tolerated
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
informed to the dept coordinator
5. Mounam pesiathe (6-4-2)
 Dumb charades
 Each dept is allowed to have 3 teams
 Each team should consist of three members
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
disclosed during the event.
 Use of abusive content will not be tolerated
 Apart from the participants, -
 Audience should not help the participants in any means. If
found, the dept will be disqualified.
6. Tamil paechu engal moochu (6-4-2)
 Individual event
 Each dept can have maximum of 3 participants
 Qualifier-speech
 Topics of the qualifier speech will be released at 9 am, the day
before the event
 The final round will be conducted in the form of a debate.
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
disclosed during the event.
 English words are not allowed
 The final round topics will be informed to the respective dept
coordinator
 If the participant exceeds the time limit, the mic will be turned
off.
7. Tamiluku amuthendru peyar (6-4-2)
 Tamil knowledge contest.
 The qualifiers will be conducted in a written format
 Each team is allowed to have max of 3 teams
 Each team should consist of three members
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
disclosed during the event.
8. Sagalagala aattam (6-4-2)
 Multitalented event
 Team work, creativity, Tamil knowledge, general knowledge
will be tested
 The qualifiers will be conducted in written format
 Each team is allowed to have max of 3 teams
 Each team should consist of three members
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
disclosed during the event
9. Kuthaadu (10-8-6)
 One team per dept
 Recorded music will not be allowed
 Only the following musical instruments will be allowed for this
event (min one).it should be self-composed music.
 The instruments allowed:
 Thavil
 Murasu
 Thambattam
 Udukkai
 Pambai
 Nayinam
 Mugaveenai
 Kanjeera
 Electronic musical instruments are not allowed
 Max 10 members per team (8 compulsory + 2 help)
 All 10 members should be present in the stage for the allotted
period of time.
 Fragile or inflammable objects are not allowed in the stage
 Each team should have a common dress code
 Props, rope, ornaments, watch is not allowed
 Girls should wear only ponytail, and use a black rubber band for
tying it.
 Use of abusive content will not be tolerated
 Cinematic music, lyrics and dialogues should not be used
 Folk song music are allowed. Folk songs music or lyrics used in
cinema should not be used.
 Tamil poem lines can be used.
 The dept coordinator must submit the draft to the Ecore members
on day 1- (07-03-2019) before 23:59:59.
 Makeup is allowed. Everyone should have a common makeup
pattern
 Every dept gets 12 mins (including preparation and exiting stage)
 Judging criteria:
 Story
 Content
 Screen play
 Dialogue
 Vocabulary
 Emotion
 Impact
 All these criteria are subject to changes.
10. Vaarthai vilayaatu
 The qualifiers will be conducted in written format.
 Each team is allowed to have max of 3 teams
 Each team should consist of two members
 The details and rules of the qualifiers and final round will be
disclosed during the event
11. Pathirikkai
 One submission per dept
 The report should consist of 12 pages, including the front page
 Paper quality should be oil print.
 Along with the submission of the entry submit the psd file of the
magazine, raw file of the photography page.
 All photos should be taken within the campus.
 Attach a copy with the original submission. Submissions will not
be accepted after a specific time.
 Abusive and explicit content and images related to that will not be
accepted and will lead to disqualification
 Magazine should contain the logos of NITTFEST ’19 and TAMIL LITS
along with dept name compulsorily. dept logo is not necessary.
 The whole content should be in Tamil.
 The magazine along with the required documents should be
submitted to the E-core members by the dept coordinator on day
1 (07-03-2019) before 23:59:59.
 Theme of the magazine: Tamil and Tamilians in science.
 The following must be present in the magazine
1. Central photo (theme based) - 2 pages
2. Cartoon (theme based) -1 page
3. Crossword (theme based) -1 page
4. Cover story (theme based) -2 pages
5. Others -4 pages
6. Cover pages (theme based) -2 pages
Judging criteria will be based on vocabulary, content, credibility,
creativity and appearance (these are subjected to change).

12. Kolam: (6-4-2)

 Kolam using dots.


 No other design objects other than the given materials should
be used.
 The kolam should not touch the border line.
 Length measurement instruments, chalk pieces, surface wiping
instruments are not allowed
 Each department can have only one team.
 Each team should have a minimum of 3 members.
 The duration of the contest is 45 minutes and the area is a 5*5
feet box.
 The title for the kolam will be announced one week prior to the
event.

13. Vilambaram: (10-8-6)

 Each department can submit only one.


 The submission should be a maximum of 2 minutes.
 The whole advertisement should be taken inside the campus of
NITT and wherever possible subtitles should be included.
 All the dialogues should be in English.
 A maximum of 2 members out of the department can be used
in cast and crew even ex-students of the same department are
considered non-departmental students.
 People appearing in the background in public places are not
considered as non-departmental.
 Music from movies can be used.
 Violence and pornography are strictly prohibited if found the
submission will be rejected.
 Computer graphics should not be used.
 Creation should not be plagiarized.
 The submission should be done in any one of the following
formats:
 .avi
 .mpeg
 ..mp4
 .mkv
 .vob
 The submission should be done to the event co-ordinator.
 The advertisement and other files should be submitted to the
event co-ordinator and the Tamil mandram on “day 1” before
23:59:59.
 No submission will be entertained after the specified time.
 Title: Tamilian medicine
 Judging criteria:
 Content
 Captivity
 Adhering to the time limit
 Creativity
 Truth
 All the judging criteria are subject to change.

14. Villupattu: (10-8-6)

 An event mixing music and story.


 Total duration of the performance should be maximum of 15
minutes including entry, exit, and props arrangement.
 Total number of team members are 8(compulsory)+ 2(help).
 Each department can have only one team.
 Instruments for the music are:
 Villu (compulsory)
 veesu kol (compulsory)
 tabla
 kanjeera
 bambai
 udukai
 katam (not a clay pot)
 jalra
 dolak
 harmonium
 namuthal
 miruthangam
 The length of the “villu” should be a minimum of two meters.
 The end of the villu should be tied with bells.
 Villu and the pot should be tied together.
 For propping up the villu wood and thermocoal can be used.
 Traditional Tamilian dress should only be worn.
 The villupattu should be started in a traditional way.
 Only one guru is allowed. (Male or Female)
 A minimum of two instruments from the above-mentioned list
excluding the villu and veesu kol.
 Western instruments are strictly prohibited.
 Guru must compulsorily wear a shall. If the guru is a female this
rule is not applicable.
 Songs based on movies and internet should not be used. If any
lines from a traditional song is used in any movie those lines
should also not be used.
 Pornography is strictly prohibited.
 The title should be informed to the event co-ordinator.
 The performance`s story gist should be submitted to the event
co-ordinator and the tamil mandram before 23:59:59 on “Day-
1”
 Title: sitru ilakiam
 Judging criteria:
 song`s parts
 songs used
 voice
 story
 All the judging criteria are subject to change.
