Civil Society Organizations on the International Court to sue the state and Skopje for the pollution

Four civil society organizations - First Children's Embassy in the World - Megjashi, "Radar", "Green
Institute" and "Journalists" for human rights "are preparing a lawsuit against the state and the City
of Skopje on the domestic courts and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg because of
the air pollution.

At the same time, these four organizations launched a petition called “Zero Tolerance for Air
pollution”.

- We also urged the international community to help the struggle for life and solve the pollution
problem. We also addressed to all members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child at the UN in
Geneva and asked for help in resolving this situation of violation of the elementary rights of the child
protected by both the Constitution of our country and the Convention on the Rights of the Child -
the right to life - says Dragi Zmijanac, president and founder of the First Children's Embassy in the
World Megjashi.

He informed that these Civic Organizations got in touch with a lawyer who accepted to represent
them voluntary and free of charge. For that purpose, Megjashi and partner organizations will ask
several experts from Macedonia to prepare an expert report in order to determine precise answers -
whether there is air pollution in the City of Skopje and Macedonia, and if there is what kind is that,
what caused it and with what intensity is it.

The expertise should respond if there is air pollution, and if it is whether it constitutes harassment
and a source of danger to the health and life of plaintiffs and residents of the city of Skopje and
Macedonia, especially to children and what consequences it causes, and which measures, how and
which ways are necessary for immediate removal of the source of danger from damage to the health
and life of the citizens, and at the expense of the state and the City of Skopje.

We are in the process at the request of experts who will confirm how badly the air pollution affects
the health of children. We encourage all those who can help us, to contribute to save children from
high carcinogens PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles that directly hit the health of children - adds Zmijanac.
