ILO : Pupils will be able to:

1. List the uses of computers in note forms using an i-think diagram

2. Categorise the points according to people and their uses of computers
3. Write simple sentences using their notes
4. Write a guided article using the given points

Steps Contents Activities

Step 1
Introduction and Introduction of the topic. 1. The teacher asks the pupils to name
Set Induction “The uses of computers” some brands or types of computers.
(5 Minutes) Eg. What are some of the popular
brands of computers in the market
today? What types of computers do
you have today?

Step 2 Going deeper into the topic 1. The teacher further probes with
(5 Minutes) Building vocabulary questions like:
- What are the uses of
computers?
- What do you use the computer
for?
Step 3 Building vocabulary 1. The teacher distributes Handout 1 –
(10 Minutes) Writing notes A mind-map from I-Think
2. Pupils work in groups writing notes
on the uses of computers today and
citing the references. (Activity 1)
 3. The teacher then asks the group
leaders to sit with other groups to
share ideas.
Step 4 Further writing – Forming simple 1. The teacher then ask the pupils to
(25 Minutes) but complete sentences. select the points according to 3
categories namely:

 Students
 Children
 Businessmen
2. The teacher asks the pupils (still in
groups) to form 3 simple sentences
from the notes on each category.
(Activity 2)
Eg.
 Many students use the
computer to do their
assignments.
 Children use computers to play
games.
 Businessmen use computers to
sell their products.
Note: The teacher should inform the
group members to divide the tasks
accordingly so as to save time.
Pupils with high proficiency in English
(HPE) should be allowed to use their
own sentences.

Step 5 The Question - Writing an article 1. The teacher distributes Handout 2 –

(10 Minutes) on the uses of computers. The question: Write an article for your
school magazine on the uses of
computers.
2. The teacher reads the question.
(As an option, pupils can be asked to
read the question.)
Step 6 Writing the article 1. The teacher distributes Handout 3.
(25 Minutes) Guided and structured 2. The teacher highlights the features
of an article – The Title, The By-line.
3. Pupils complete the structure article
by using the sentences they formed
earlier. (Individual work)
Note: HPE pupils should be allowed to
write and expand according to their
abilities.
Closing Reading out their articles 1. Teacher asks selected pupils to
(5 Minutes) read their articles.
2. The teacher highlights the values of
sharing and cooperation.
