MATH QUIZ CONTEST

CONTEST RULES AND GUIDELINES


1. Each organization must submit a duly accomplished entry form not later than February 15,
2019, at the Engineering Student Council Office.
2. Each organization shall be represented by at least one team composed of two (2) members
and one (1) alternate.
3. Any bona fide Engineering student of Central Philippine University that attained a grade of 5.0
(2.5 or below for freshmen) from their Differential or Integral Calculus class.
4. The contest will be held at 4:00 pm on February 26, 2019 at Engineering Lobby. The
competing teams are required to be at the venue fifteen (15) minutes before the contest proper
5. The questions covered in the contest will include the following fields or subjects:
High School Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, and Probability)
College Algebra
Trigonometry
Differential and Integral Calculus
6. Announcement of the winners and awarding of prizes will be held after judging.
7. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

GENERAL MECHANICS
1. The contest is divided into three categories namely: EASY, AVERAGE, and DIFFICULT
ROUND.
EASY ROUND: Compose of ten (10) questions worth two (2) points each. Allotted time
for each questions will vary from 10 to 60 seconds.
AVERAGE ROUND: Compose of ten (10) questions worth three (3) points each. Allotted
time for each questions will vary from 15 to 75 seconds.
DIFFICULT ROUND: Compose of ten (10) questions worth five (5) points each. Allotted
time for each questions will vary from 15 to 90 seconds.
2. No substitution of team members is allowed as soon as a category has started.
Substitution/switching of members is allowed only when a category ends
3. The contestants will be provided with chalk, blackboard eraser, paper, and flashboard. A
proctor assigned to every team will give each team a copy of the question at a time. The team
reads the question together with the quizmaster who reads it twice. Contestants must wait for
the go signal of the quiz master before computing for the answer.
4. Final answer must be written on the flashboard provided. As soon as the bell rings (end of the
allotted time), each team must raise their answers facing the quiz master. Once the flashboard
is raised the answer is considered final. The quiz master will declare which teams got the
correct answer.
5. Question and clarifications regarding to a particular question will be entertained only before
the start of the next question.
6. Scores from the categories will be added. The team which gets the highest total score will be
declared first place, second and third highest scorers for second, and third place respectively.
7. In case of a tie, a clincher question will be given with an allotted time of not more than ninety
(90) seconds. The first team to give the correct answer will be the winner.
8. Calculators are allowed for selected questions only during the contest.
