Rationale:
Up until this point the work I’ve produced over these last two years has been met with
various problems or different degrees, which resulted in only a select few productions I
made that I can look back on and still feel proud of. The most recent one being my previous
unit in which I produced a music video for the song “Star Treatment” for Arctic Monkeys.
The main reason I found this to be a positive experience was because for once I was
completely invested in the idea I’d come up with, unlike other unit where I went about
things with a “that’ll do I guess” kind of attitude. This is also because I actually enjoyed
every part of making this video, from the pre-production research to the editing the final
cut. But even this piece of work contained flaws that annoyed me, but because of my time
management I couldn’t fix them. About half way through the music video the lip synching
falls out of time which I didn’t notice until the last day of editing, because of which I ran out
of time to fix it. This is also a time to look back on the progress I've made since starting this
course because before CMP I had never shot of edited a film in my life. And slowly over the
last two years, I've gained the necessary skills to produce various types of productions,
which range from cutting up footage, sound editing, colour grading, as well as the
fundamentals of shooting footage. So now moving forward onto what will be my last ever
production on CMP, I need to make sure that problems like this are excluded. But above all I
want my final piece of work to be fun to make, since I had so much fun creating my last one,
I think this is how all productions should be made.
Project Concept:
However I will be creating a short film for my Final Major Product and aim to make it with
the same enthusiasm I had with “Star Treatment”. I know that I enjoyed making my music
video last unit but I think I want to show broader range of my skill set, and choosing to
produce a short film will allow me to do so. As much as I understand I've got a long way to
go until I understand the fundamentals of film making, I still want to pursue this desire to
make a short film. This is because I can incorporate the elements of music video production
I like in to the piece but also show off my ability in sound design, since a music video would
me I've already got the sound design finished before I start editing. For this production I’ll
need multiple locations so scouting out suitable ones will be a top priority of mine, as well
as hiring out equipment I don’t own. This is to make sure the footage looks as professional
as possible if it means borrowing equipment from my peers then I will do this. For my FMP I
must effectively show the progress I've made over the last two years by incorporating the
developed skills and techniques that I've gain during CMP. My final production will be part
of an exhibition of student work in the local gallery, so I should consider how best I can
display my work, so that my audience get the best experience when watching it. This could
mean moving out of the conventional ways of projecting it up on a screen, perhaps looking
into isolating the piece into a certain space might have a greater impact.

Evaluation:
In relation to how I will assess my work so that I remain on track to produce the best
possible outcome, I’ll write up weekly blog and putt these too onto my website. Here I will
explain what I achieved during that week and evaluate how productive I had been. By
looking at my work in a critical way each week, it should improve my creative process so
that the final outcome reflects the research I made, the target audience I chose and pre-
production work I based it off of. It also means that I will have given myself a space in which
I can sum up the positives and the negatives of that week. Whilst evaluating my own work I
must compare it to the work of professionals in the media business, so that I can constantly
see how my work measures up to industry standard content. When I come to the end of my
FMP, I’ll take each weekly blog I wrote and use them to write up a final evaluation. This
extensive document will clearly summarise my intents going into the last unit, explaining
where I succeeded and where I needed to improve.
Client/Festival
My final major project will be produced from the British film festival Rain Dance and will be
submitted by May 17th for consideration in its annual screening event. Being the UK's biggest
independent film festival, Rain Dance offers an opportunity for young aspiring filmmakers to
showcase their work on a platform that for most of them wouldn't be possible. The fee to submit a
production for Rain Dance cost £35 and goes up to £50 if I wait till 31st May. Winning at Rain Dance
also means that my name is thrown out into the industry, so future job opportunities might present
themselves, along with industry funding into my next project.
For my Final Major Project I will be producing a short film that will last between 10-15 minutes and is
a horror parody, focusing on the portrayal of vampires in modern society. The story follows a young
boy named Gus who prepares to make his first kill as a vampire, but happens to choose his best
friend Tom as the victim. The film will be set on a single day in which the young vampire plots and
fails countless times to kill his friend. My chosen target audience for this film will be between the
ages of 16-25, as I feel this age bracket will appreciate the humour and stylistic qualities my
production will contain. This also means that I need to find out what exactly this demographic enjoy
and how I can included in my work to appeal to them more.
Parchment Productions
There are no requirements for my production, so I can be as creative with my work as I want
since the association say that, “Rain Dance Film Festival is committed to showing the
boldest and most innovative work that challenges the boundaries of film making". However
I must follows the requirements set out by CMP VIBE Productions, which state that I can
create any kind of production as long as it’s not deemed offensive.
