The learners demonstrate an understanding of key concepts of conic sections and

systems of nonlinear equations.

B. Performance Standards

The learners shall be able to model situations appropriately and solve problems
accurately using conic sections and systems of nonlinear equations.

C. Learning Competencies

1. Define a circle. (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-2)

2. Determine the standard form of equation of a circle. (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-3)
3. Graph a circle in a rectangular coordinate system (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-4).

IV. LEARNING PROCEDURES

Preparatory Activities:
a. Prayer (Youtube Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfeEpZYMRps
b. Greetings
c. Attendance
d. Motivation (Pictures of Circles)

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting new lesson

Recall the terms used in circles. Present a video clip to illustrate the parts of circle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPnP_EEZvQc

B. Establishing a purpose of the lesson

The teacher shows and explains the objectives of the lessons.

1
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

 Illustrate and derive the equation of a circle in standard form.

 Show illustrative examples.
Find the equation of the circle with the following conditions and then sketch the
graph.
1. center is at the origin and radius 6.
2. center is at C(2,-5) and the radius is 3.
3. Has a diameter whose endpoints are the points A(3,4) and B(-3,12)

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills No. 1

Activity 1: ( I can do it!)

Let each student answer the following:
Find the equation of the circle with the indicated properties and graph.
1. Center at the origin, radius 4.
2. Center at (2,-1), radius 3.
3. Center at (-3,5), diameter 10.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills No. 2

Let the students work in pair. Each one will answer the problem. Then, sharing of their output
follows.
Activity 2: (Think-Pair-Share)
1. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (1,0) and which
passes through the point (-1,-1). Draw the circle.
2. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose diameter is the line segment
joining (7,-3) and (1,7). Draw the circle.

F. Developing mastery

1. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (2,1)
and whose radius is 2. Draw the circle.
2. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (1,0) and which
passes through the point (-1,-1). Draw the circle.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

Group Activity. Divide the class into 4 groups and each group will pick one problem to be
solved and present to the class.
1. A street with two lanes, each 10 ft wide, goes through a
semicircular tunnel with radius 12 ft. How high is the tunnel at the edge of each
lane? Round off to 2 decimal places.

2. A circular play area with radius 3 m is to be partitioned into two sections using a straight
fence as shown in the figure below. How long should the fence be?

3. A piece of a broken plate was dug up in an archaeological site. It was put on top of a grid,
as shown in the figure, with the arc of the plate passing through A(7, 0), B(1,4) and C(7, 2).
Find its center, and the standard equation of the circle describing the boundary of the plate.

4. A Cartesian coordinate system was used to identify locations on a circular track. As shown
in the figure, the circular track contains the points A(-2,-4), B(-2, 3), C(5, 2). Find the total
length of the track.
2
H. Making generalization and abstractions about the lesson

Asks the students:

What is the definition of circle?

How to find the standard form of the equation of a circle?
How to sketch the graph of the equation of a circle?
What is the importance of learning about circles?

Values Integration

Circle symbolizes strength and unity.

A well-rounded person can adjust to his/her environment wherever he/she may go.
Art appreciation for those circular designs.

I. Evaluating learning

A. Define circle and illustrate its parts.

B. Solve the following problems.

1. Find the equation of the circle with center at the origin and radius 2.5.
2. Find the equation of the circle with center at the origin and passes through (-2,3).
3. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (-2,-1) and whose
radius is 3.
4. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (3,2) and which
passes through the origin. Draw the circle.
5. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose diameter is the line segment
joining (-2,2) and (2,-1). Draw the circle.
