B. Performance Standards
The learners shall be able to model situations appropriately and solve problems
accurately using conic sections and systems of nonlinear equations.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
F. Developing mastery
1. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (2,1)
and whose radius is 2. Draw the circle.
2. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (1,0) and which
passes through the point (-1,-1). Draw the circle.
Group Activity. Divide the class into 4 groups and each group will pick one problem to be
solved and present to the class.
1. A street with two lanes, each 10 ft wide, goes through a
semicircular tunnel with radius 12 ft. How high is the tunnel at the edge of each
lane? Round off to 2 decimal places.
2. A circular play area with radius 3 m is to be partitioned into two sections using a straight
fence as shown in the figure below. How long should the fence be?
3. A piece of a broken plate was dug up in an archaeological site. It was put on top of a grid,
as shown in the figure, with the arc of the plate passing through A(7, 0), B(1,4) and C(7, 2).
Find its center, and the standard equation of the circle describing the boundary of the plate.
4. A Cartesian coordinate system was used to identify locations on a circular track. As shown
in the figure, the circular track contains the points A(-2,-4), B(-2, 3), C(5, 2). Find the total
length of the track.

I. Evaluating learning
1. Find the equation of the circle with center at the origin and radius 2.5.
2. Find the equation of the circle with center at the origin and passes through (-2,3).
3. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (-2,-1) and whose
radius is 3.
4. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose center is at (3,2) and which
passes through the origin. Draw the circle.
5. Find the standard form of the equation of the circle whose diameter is the line segment
joining (-2,2) and (2,-1). Draw the circle.
