Important information
Here’s what you need to know about our duties and powers, and what they mean for you. Section 46
of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 allows us to tell you how you must present your waste for collection.
We have the authority to say that separate bins must be used for waste to be recycled and waste which is not.
We can also insist that all waste must be contained within the bins provided and that excess waste is not
permitted and will not be collected. We can issue fixed-penalty notices for not following our instructions.

Special collections
Collection of bulky household items
• Our special collections service means we can collect
large and bulky items, such as sofas, mattresses
and fridges. It’s easy to book a collection. Just visit
www.brent.gov.uk/specialcollections If you don’t
have internet access you can call us on 020 8937 5050.

ur special collections service is now chargeable.
• It costs £35 for the collection of up to five items.
• If you are in receipt of certain income-related
benefits, your first collection in any financial year (April to March) will be free of charge.
• Items must be left outside your property, but not on the footpath or public
highway. We do not collect from back gardens. Items should be visible from the road.

Where should I put my bins on my collection day?
