You can renew your garden waste service or sign up

Important information New customers

• If you receive certain benefits you may
be entitled to a 20% discount. Proof of
benefits will need to be provided.
• If you change your mind you have 14 days
to cancel after you sign up. Refunds will
not be provided after 14 days.
• You can reduce the cost by sharing
a bin with your neighbour. Only one
person needs to sign up. The bin must
be presented for collection outside the
property of the person who paid for
the service.

• For most of the year, your garden waste
collections will take place every two
weeks. However, during December,
January and February your collections
will take place once a month. For more
information on your collection days,
please visit www.brent.gov.uk/recycling
• If you are a new customer, we will deliver a
garden waste bin after you have signed up to the
service. If you already have a bin, please let us
know by emailing gardenwaste@brent.gov.uk
• Please note that if you are a new customer and
you sign up to the garden waste service after
the last week of March, it can take up to six
working days to deliver a garden waste bin to
you. This can delay the start of your garden
waste collections.
• If you do not have space for a bin, please contact
us to discuss an alternative container for your
garden waste. An officer may need to visit
your property.
Renewals
• If you are renewing your garden waste service,
we presume you already have a bin for your
garden waste and will not deliver another.
• You can renew your garden waste service at any
time during the year and the service will start
from the next collection day.

Recycling Centre
The site is located at
Abbey Road, Park Royal NW10 7TJ
A wide range of materials including garden
waste can be brought to this site.
Opening hours are 8am–4pm, seven days per
week except Christmas Day, Boxing Day
and New Year’s Day.

Important information
Here’s what you need to know about our duties and powers, and what they mean for you. Section 46
of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 allows us to tell you how you must present your waste for collection.
We have the authority to say that separate bins must be used for waste to be recycled and waste which is not.
We can also insist that all waste must be contained within the bins provided and that excess waste is not
permitted and will not be collected. We can issue fixed-penalty notices for not following our instructions.

General waste service
General
Your general waste bin will be emptied every other week

Most household waste can be recycled.
The only things which really need to
go into your grey bin are nappies, pet
litter, crisp packets, plastic bags and
plastic film
such as cling
film and bread
wrappers.
All general waste must be kept inside your grey
wheeled bin. We will not empty your general
waste bin if it contains any garden waste.
Please see page 2 for more information on
how to recycle your garden waste.

Special collections
Collection of bulky household items
• Our special collections service means we can collect
large and bulky items, such as sofas, mattresses
and fridges. It’s easy to book a collection. Just visit
www.brent.gov.uk/specialcollections If you don’t
have internet access you can call us on 020 8937 5050.
•O
 ur special collections service is now chargeable.
• It costs £35 for the collection of up to five items.
• If you are in receipt of certain income-related
benefits, your first collection in any financial year (April to March) will be free of charge.
• Items must be left outside your property, but not on the footpath or public
highway. We do not collect from back gardens. Items should be visible from the road.

at Abbey Road, NW10 7TJ. Please visit www.brent.gov.uk/recycling to see what
items you can take there for free.
