The ladies is, along with chess, one of the most exciting board games we can enjoy. If you
have ever seen people playing on a checkered board with their black and white chips, and
you have been curious to discover how to play the ladies, be careful because we give you
all the keys. It's very easy to play the ladies! so put aside for a while the mobile games and
enjoy this game like no other. The game of checkers is undoubtedly one of the most
popular we have in Spain and, although it is often compared to chess (its boards are very
similar), the truth is that they have nothing to do with each other but they do have a
relation in their origin. The ladies are a game that is practiced all over the world, although it
should be noted that there seems to be a version of the ladies depending on the country in
which they practice (Chinese ladies, for example), the truth is that the origin, although not
It is quite clear it seems to be located in 1100 in France, where it became very popular.
Despite this "French origin" of the Ladies, the truth is that it seems that the game actually
traveled from Valencia to Provence from the Alquerque, a game very similar to the three in
a row. In fact it is said that the game originated because the Alquerque was played on a
chess board and for that reason it was called "Ferses game", which was the name that the
Queen's piece received in chess, at that time.

The reason why later derive the name of "Ladies" is not very clear, although some theories
converge on the word comes from the Germanic damm, which can be translated as
"retaining wall" and that would be related to the last row of the board , in which the chips
are crowned. To play the game of the ladies you just have to know how to move your chips
and how to go "eating" your opponent until you reach that "wall" final. Let's see how to play
the ladies below.

Rules to play the ladies

To play the ladies you only need two people and a board divided into squares (8 × 8) in black and white.

Each player has 12 pieces (white or black, although there is a variant of red or black), which at the beginning
of the game must be placed in the black squares of the three rows that are closest to the player.

The player with the white (or red) chips starts the game by moving the first chip.

The chips must be moved in turns, with forward movements (backward movement is not allowed),
diagonally, as well as to the right or left (as long as the adjacent square is empty).
How to eat chips

The key to the game is to "eat" the chips of the other player. To do this, we have to be in
front of the chip we want to eat and we must do it only with a diagonal movement, jumping
over the food chip and falling in the next square (which must be empty). In the case of
having several opponent's counters diagonally, alternated with empty squares, we can
"eat" those counters at once.

When is it won in the ladies?

In the game of the ladies we must reach the last row of the opponent. When we achieved this and placed one
of our chips in one of the boxes in the last row, we proclaimed ourselves "queen" and placed another card on
top. Now with that piece "queen", we can move diagonally both backwards and forwards.

The game ends at the moment one of the two players runs out of chips on the board. In the case of having
"blocked" pieces (which can not be moved) still on the board, those who have more chips on the board at that
moment will win.

On the other hand, we can say that there is a draw or that the game remains in "tables" when neither of the
two players can make any movement but they still have chips left on both boards
