I will develop my leadership in Teaching and Learning
§ GOAL: Encourage student engagement in math by designing
solutions to problems. § OBJECTIVE: Short Term: Develop and implement at least one project this semester. Long term: Develop and implement at least two projects per year in each of my classes. § RATIONALE: Alternative forms of assessment help student to show mastery in multiple different ways and multiple forms of assessment will give the teacher more data points to determine whether students are mastering content. (Projects in the Math Classroom) § NBPTS: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. § TLMD: Domain 4. Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student Learning.
I will develop my leadership in Professional Development
§ GOAL: Provide appropriate feedback for teachers in my department
on their instruction. § OBJECTIVE: Short Term: Observe 3 teachers in my department before the end of the school year. Long Term: Create a process for teacher observations within my department that facilities more meaningful feedback. § RATIONALE: Teacher observations have many benefits and getting into other teachers’ classrooms more will give me a better idea of what is happening in other classrooms, give teacher focused feedback on specific lessons, and help foster a collaborative environment. (Benefits of Teacher Observations) § NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of learning communities. § TLMD: Domain 3. Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous Improvement.
I will develop my leadership in Student Assessment
§ GOAL: Alter the current traditional assessments so that students
retain information longer. § OBJECTIVE: In my Pre-Calculus class I want to implement a new assessment design for two units this year (short-term). § RATIONALE: Long term retention is a goal in all of our classes and as a department we have identified that our assessment design has led to students focusing too much on short term retention and not enduring memory. (Assessments that Promote Long Term Retention) § NBPTS: Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. § TLMD: Domain 5. Promoting the Use of Assessments and Data for School and District Improvement.
