Experience
Hi. My name is Justin Escher Alpert. I represent companies throughout the course of their business
with respect to corporate formation, business strategy, employment contracts and compensation plans,
complex contract negotiation and drafting, and licensing of intellectual property. I also advise
companies in drafting business plan memoranda, unraveling complicated businesses for presentation to
angel and venture capital investors. I had cut my teeth as a Corporate/M&A Associate at the venerable
white-shoe law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York City from 1999 – 2003, splitting
my time between running billion-dollar securities transactions and creatively drafting business plans and
private placement documentation for companies in what was then the new and exciting dot.com space.
Over the years, the focus of my practice has developed from overseeing hundred million dollar
transactions in practically every industry that you can think of, to acting as general and IP-licensing
counsel to start-up technology-based companies. I have practiced as counsel to the Tech Group of
Lowenstein Sandler, with the boutique law firm of OlenderFeldman, and as special project counsel to
Johnson & Johnson, Sharp Electronics, and Inttra. Since 2008, I have practiced under the banner of my
own firm, Escher Alpert PC (www.escheralpert.com), but I am always open to new and exciting
opportunities.
Prior to my life as an attorney, I worked in the motion picture industry in New York, Los Angeles and
Miami on the sets of The Devil’s Own; Striptease; Little Indian, Big City; Fair Game; Independence
Day; The Indian in the Cupboard; The Perez Family; Just Cause; Here Come the Munsters; McDonald’s
Superbowl XXIX; and Red Shoe Diaries. Yes, I have some interesting stories to tell you.
I have served my community as a member of the Technology Advisory Board of the New Jersey
Economic Development Authority and as an Ambassador of the New Jersey Technology Council. I
presently sit on the board of the Livingston Lacrosse Club, where we are building the country's fastest-
growing and most-exciting youth sport. I have also become a fierce public advocate for civil rights
causes as they arise (and, as you may imagine, they often do) here in New Jersey.
In my free time, I play guitar and harmonica in a classic blues-based rock and roll band
(www.thestiffjoints.com). I don't watch television. When I am not studying music, I usually have two
or three books at a time going as I study physics and philosophy and religion (it still surprises me how
much they are related) or whatever else piques my interest. I am an expert snowboarder and an avid
outdoorsman. I try to keep an active balance between mind, body, and spirit. I live in Livingston, New
Jersey with my wife and two grade-school-aged children, who are turning out to be even brighter than I
am.
Education
I graduated magna cum laude from New York Law School in 1999, having served hard time on the
Journal of International and Comparative Law. I am admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey.
I graduated from Florida State University with a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1993. I
played on the Men’s Rugby Team that won the Georgia Rugby Union, Div. II Championship in 1991.
Go Seminoles!
