FOREWORD
This Indian Standard ( First Revision ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the
draft finalized by the Steel Castings Sectional Committee, had been approved by the Metallurgical
Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1983. While reviewing the standard in the light of the
experience gained during these years the committee has decided to revise this Indian Standard.
In this revision various clauses have been aligned with the recent standards on steel castings.
For the benefit of the purchaser and the manufacturer, typical applications of various grades of
castings specified in this standard have been included in Annex C.
In the preparation of this standard, assistance has been derived from the following publications:
BS 3146 ( Part 2 ) : 1985 Investment castings in metal in corrosion and heat resisting steels,
nickel and cobalt base alloys, British Standards Institution.
ASTM A743 - 1980 Corrosion - resistant, iron chromium, iron-chromium-nickel, and
nickel-base alloy castings for general application, American Society for Testing and Materials.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with,
the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded
off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised )‘, The number
of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified
value in this standard.
