Our Classroom Newsletter

Room 219
February 25, 2019

Reading: Our reading targets for the week are identifying the
main topic and retelling key details of a text, connecting two
ideas, and using the illustrations and details in a text to
describe its key ideas. We will be reading the texts, A Look at
Breakfast and From Cows to You while working on those
standards. Our guided reading books for the week are Apples
from Farm to Table at differentiated levels.

Language Arts: We will be learning the sight words after, buy,

done, every, soon, work, if, and small. We will be learning about
contractions with not and inflectional endings, -ed and -ing.

Spelling: The spelling words for this week are -ook and -ood
words. Please practice each night for the spelling test on
Friday.

Math: We are finishing up our topic 8, understanding place

value with tens and ones. Our focus this week will be grouping
tens and ones to make two-digit numbers and using drawings
to solve problems with tens and ones. Our topic test will be
later this week.
Math Center: missing equations in an equation and vocabulary
with addition and subtraction.

Writing: We will continue writing our new narrative writing

piece, On My Way Home from School. We are writing our
middle and end of the story using adjectives and transition
words.

Science: We are learning about the different kinds of light,

see through-transparent, kind of see through-translucent, and
not see through-opaque. The children will be sorting objects
and learning more about light through observations.

Computers: The children are finding pictures to go along with

their sound poems and then will begin typing them.

Extra News for the Week

1. The children had an amazing time at the Wolves game

with their fourth grade buddies. It was a fun
experience for all.
2. Our school’s winter concert will be on Thursday at 2:15
and then again in the evening at 6:30. Our fourth and
fifth graders will be singing in the concert. All are
welcome!
3. Our all school book swap will take place on Friday. The
children can bring in books that they have at home and
are done reading and exchange it for another book of
their choice. Bring in your old books and get a new one!
Please bring all books by Thursday.
4. We are sending home some books from our last reading
series that we are no longer using in the classroom, but
are great for reading logs. They do not need to be
returned to school. Enjoy!

With much thanks,

Mrs. Samluk
