HIS FIRST SPRING IN PEORIA...Wade LeBlanc has appeared in 43 games, 35 starts over parts
over 2 seasons with Seattle (2016 & 2018-c), but 2019 marks his first season in spring camp with the
Mariners...Wade was acquired by Seattle from Toronto for a PTBNL on June 22, 2016 and reaquired
by the Mariners as a free agent after being released by New York-AL on March 25, 2018...Wade set
career-highs in wins (9), starts (27), innings pitched (162.0) and strikeouts (130) with Seattle in 2018.
THE 15 CLUB…Ichiro Suzuki and Félix Hernández are each entering their 15th Major League
Spring Training Camps with the Mariners…Ichiro has also appeared in 2 spring camps with the
Yankees (2013-14) and 3 spring camps with the Marlins (2015-2017), making this his 20th Major
League Spring Training…Ichiro made his first appearance at Seattle’s Spring Training as a special
guest in 1999 before signing with the club prior to the 2001 season (1999, 2001-12, 2017-c)…Félix’s
first Spring Training in Seattle’s big league camp was as an 18-year-old in 2005 (2005-c).
2019 JAPAN OPENING SERIES…the Mariners will open the 2019 regular season in Tokyo, Japan
on March 20-21 against the Oakland Athletics…the two-game 2019 Japan Opening Series at the
Tokyo Dome will be “road” games for the Mariners…the Mariners will travel from Arizona to Tokyo on
Thursday, March 14…the trip will begin with two exhibition games vs. Nippon Professional Baseball
teams on Sunday, March 17 and Monday, March 18…the Mariners will begin the regular season on
March 20 at 6:35 pm in Tokyo (2:35 am in Seattle) and will fly back to Seattle following the game on
March 21 (6:35 pm in Japan/2:35 am in Seattle)…this will mark the 5th time that the Major League
Baseball regular season has opened with a two-game series in Japan (last: 2012, SEA vs. OAK).

NEW THREADS…the Mariners have unveiled a new look for Spring Training 2019 with a new jersey
and cap…the jersey will be worn only during Spring Training…the cap will be worn throughout
the Spring and during batting practice during the regular season…the jersey is a vibrant shade of
powder blue, harkening back to the color schemes during the early years of the franchise (1977-
1984), with the current Mariners lettering in dark navy, outlined with silver and Northwest green…
the all-navy cap features a silver stylized letter “M” superimposed over elements from the Mariners
nautical compass rose symbol.
NEW FACES…of the 67 players on the Mariners Spring Training roster, 35 were not with the Mariners
organization at the end of last season…among the 35 newcomers, 15 were acquired in trades this
past offseason…of the 32 returning players, 19 appeared in the Majors with the Mariners in 2018.
BUSY OFFSEASON…from the end of the 2018 season through the first day of Seattle’s Major
League Spring Training (Feb. 11), the Mariners completed 9 trades, signed 7 Major League free
agents and claimed 1 player in the Major League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft…of the 9 trades involving
the 40-man roster, the Mariners acquired 17 players and completed deals with 8 different clubs.
AS YOU KNOW, STONEY...in 79 road games in 2018, Mitch Haniger hit .307 (96x313) with 51
runs scored, 28 doubles, 1 triple, 14 home runs, 54 RBI and 34 walks…BUT DID YOU KNOW…
Haniger led the American League with 28 doubles on the road last season?…he also ranked
among AL road leaders in hits (T2nd, 96), extra-base hits (T2nd, 43), RBI (3rd, 54), slugging
percentage (8th, .537), on-base percentage (8th, .377) and average (9th, .307).
