Definition

A distribution channel is a business interdependent network that transports the good or

service from the company towards the final consumer. This network is formed by
companies and people that transport the product from one point to another.

It is a distribution network through which the producer puts his products in the market
and passes them to the actual users. Therefore, the channel serves to bridge the gap
between the point of production and the point of consumption thereby creating time,
place and possession utilities.

Selection criteria for distribution channel

It is based on the objectives and marketing strategies of the company.

Market coverage: the channel selections is

important to consider the size and potential
market value must be supplied.

Intermediaries: they reduce the number of

transactions that need to come into contact with
a certain size market.

Consequences: to increase the market

coverage with the use of intermediaries.

Control: to select the appropriate distribution

channel.

When the product leaves the hands of the producer,

you lose control because it happens to be owned by
the purchaser, he can do whatever he wants with the
product. This means that you can leave the product
in a warehouse or suppliy differently on their
shelves.

Convenient: a short channel of distribution, it provides greater control.

Costs: to pay the lower cost of distribution and lower price for the product.

Intermediaries: distribution costs are generally lower when using intermediaries in the
distribution channel.

3. Information on new products, new uses of existing products, etc. from producers to
consumers.

Product consideration

distribution channel. The major product factors are:

4
Perishable products
Products subjected to frequent changes in fashion or style as well as heavy and bulky
products.
They follow relatively shorter routes distributed directly to minimize costs.

2. Market consideration

The nature of the target market: the market for

the product for industrial users.Short one and may
as they buy in a large quantity.

They buy the product in large quantities: the

number of prospective customers is small or the
market for he product is geographically located in
a limited area.

Direct selling is more suitable: the customers

place order for the product in big lots.
