Are you familiar w ith Louis Armstrong’s

song “What a Wonderful World”?
Yes, Ma’am.
Now , w e are going to w atch a v ideo
presentation and since you already
know the song, I w ant you to sing
along w ith it w hile watching. Am I
making myself clear?
Yes, Ma’am.
Here are the guide questions that you
are going to answ er after w atching
MBS B |2

the presentation. Kindly read this

altogether.
Guide Questions:
1. What are the w onders you see in
the presentation? How w ill you
describe them?
2. I n w hat w ays you can show your
lov e and appreciation to the
w orld where you are living now ?
3. What is the message of the
song?
4. What w ill you do to make our
w orld a better place to liv e in?
5. What are the adjectiv es used in
the song? What do they
describe?
As you are w atching the v ideo, I also
require you to w rite down your insights,
ideas, and descriptions on the pictures
flashed on the screen. Am I clear?
Yes, Ma’am.
I f that so, then let’s w atch now the
v ideo presentation.
(Students w atch the presentation)
How do you find the v ideo?
Ma’am, it is so ov erwhelming to
know how wonderful our world is,
but the saddest part is that our
w orld today is almost destroyed by
people.

Good! Now , it’s time for us to answ er

the guide questions. Kindly answ er
number 1.  Trees- green and fruitful
 Roses/flowers- red and
bloomed
 Ocean- clean and blue
 Birds and other animals- free
and peaceful

 People- forgiving
Excellent! How about number 2?
 Plant more trees

 Taking care of env ironment

 Refrain from loitering around

Nice answ er. Do you mind to answ er

MBS B |3

the third question?  The song tells us that w e

should take care of the w orld
before it’s too late. People
hav e lost its essence and
beauty. And because of the
turbulence of our days, w e
forget to observe the many
w onders that our w orld offers.

Great! And the fourth question?

 I f w e want our world a better
place to liv e in, then w e
should start it w ith ourselves.
A good citizen can influence
other people to help one
another to make our w orld
peaceful and better.
And number 5?

 Wonderful-world

 Pretty- colors of the rainbow

 Bright, blessed- day

 Dark, sacred- night

I t seems that you really understand the
message of the song. Now , that you
hav e your own group, you’re going to
w rite an essay regarding the
descriptions you gather earlier while
w atching the v ideo. But, there’s a tw ist.
The first person should start w riting the
paragraph. Do not rev eal to your
members w hat you are w riting. When
you hav e w ritten about a paragraph,
fold the paper dow n so that only the
last sentence can only be seen. Pass
the paper to the next person, and the
routine is the same. The only clue you
hav e to continue w riting is the last line
of the paragraph and the focus is on
v ideo presented. Do not forget to
incorporate descriptive words on your
w ork. Afterwards, you w ill read your
outputs aloud. Be sure that your w ork is
finished as the music stops.
(Students in groups w rite the activity
w hile the v ideo is played for the
second time)

Time’s up! You can now read your

outputs.
(Students read their outputs aloud)
MBS B |4

What hav e you noticed in the essay

you hav e w ritten?
I t usually described particular
person, place, thing, or ev ent.
Based on the activ ity you hav e done,
w hat do you think is our lesson for
today? Ma’am, our lesson for today is all
about descriptive essay.

Good. Do you mind to read the

definition of descriptive essay?
Descriptive essay is a genre of essay
that asks the student to describe
something—object, person, place,
experience, emotion, situation, etc.
Thank you. I t is also the genre that
encourages the student’s ability to
create a w ritten account of a
particular experience. What is more,
this genre allow s for a great deal of
artistic freedom (the goal of w hich is to
paint an image that is v ivid and
mov ing in the mind of the reader). To
w rite an effective descriptive essay, we
hav e some guidelines to follow. Kindly
read number 1.
 Take time to brainstorm.
Thank you. So, if I ask you to w rite a
descriptive essay about nature or the
w orld as a w hole, you must jot dow n all
the adjectiv es that suit the topic to
av oid mental blocked.

 Use clear and concise

This means that w ords are chosen language
carefully, particularly for their
relev ancy in relation to that w hich you
are intending to describe. We must be
accurate alw ays in describing things to
av oid misunderstanding.
 Use your senses
I f you are describing something, you
need to be appealing to the senses of
the reader. Explain how the thing
smelled, felt, sounded, tasted, or
looked. Embellish the moment w ith
senses. And w hat are the senses used?

Ma’am, w e have the eyes, nose,

ears, tongue, and skin.
Can you giv e examples on sentences
applying this rule w ith regards to the
v ideo w e watched earlier?
MBS B |5

Very good. And the fourth one?

Answ ers v ary

 Organize details
The structure of your essay can start
from general to specific or in
chronological order as long as the
reader conveys the message you w ant
to say. I t alw ays depends on the style
the w riters have. You must striv e to
present an organized and logical
description if the reader is to come
aw ay from the essay w ith a cogent
sense of w hat it is you are attempting
to describe. And the last rule?
 Draw a logical conclusion
The conclusion may also use
descriptive words; however, make
certain the conclusion is logical and
relev ant.

Okay. Now that w e are familiar w ith

the rules, let’s analyze an example of
essay first.
MEMORIES FROM THE CABANA
I w as born and raised in South
America, a continent w ith a lot of
mountain ranges–ideal for mountain
climbing and hiking-long w inding
riv ers, lush forests, w onderful
beaches, as w ell as v alleys w ith
breathtaking v iew s. Based on
experience, I can say that it is a
tropical country; w hich w as
confirmed during my history class in
sixth grade. I n a country w here it’s
hot and humid, my fashion
statement is sporting a large w hite
(sometimes blue) t-shirt and a
Haw aiian type shorts. A dark pair of
shades is also an important part of
my get-up as it protects my eyes
from the sun’s harsh rays. Being
born in South America you might
think that I hav e dark hair w ith
brow n eyes and a charming smile;
a typical Cabana boy.
(Teacher groups students into four and
each w ill be giv en a particular
guideline in essay w riting. Students
judge the essay based on the
guideline assigned to them. 3 minutes
w ill be giv en to w rite their judgment)
