Media,

The CDC recently released information about rising dental fluorosis rates as it relates to
the use and swallowing of fluoridated toothpaste.
There is a bigger story here in that fluoride also affects neurological function. I ask that
you give this press release: “Dental fluorosis out of control—Media is missing the
elephant in the room.” the attention it deserves, especially since many of our local water
supplies are fluoridated, thereby adding to the fluoride body burden.
As Dr. Connett said in the press release, dental fluorosis is a biomarker of over-
exposure to fluoride, a condition that, at the very inception of water fluoridation, was
deliberately downplayed and mischaracterized. A core policy of deception is revealed in
the minutes of this 1951 U.S. Public Health Service conference with State Dental
Directors. Incredibly, attendees of this conference were encouraged to lie about and
ignore anything related to fluoride toxicity—a tenant that, unfortunately, is still in place
today. One can see that the definitions of fluorosis as found in medical literature differ
from what dentists claim—as expressed by Dr. Hartner at the bottom of the list. In the
1990s, Dr. Richard Foulkes made a thorough 7-year review of all pertinent fluoride
literature available at that time. His revealing findings are eloquently presented in this
letter.
The investigations into the neurotoxicity of fluoride by Phyllis Mullenix, Ph.D., were
among the first to be reported. This discussion of her findings is very informative. (FYI,
Dr. Kash did NOT pass either the Mullenix letter or the one from risk assessment
specialist Kathleen Thiessen, Ph.D., on to the Health Advisory Committee. The
unfortunate position taken by Dr. Kash is revealed in the minutes of the March 22, 2001
Health Advisory Committee meeting.
The July, 2000 Journal of the American Dental Association's Cover Story reveals that
for decades the dental community has known, but not passed on to the public, the fact
that the fluoride in fluoridated water acts topically at the tooth's surface, before it is
swallowed. This fact invalidates the concept of water fluoridation. (The ADA, the CDC
and the journal Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology reported on this finding.)

Thank you,
