Equipo #1
PRACTICE No. 1
Basic pneumatic circuit

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
The student will understand the structure and how to connect a basic pneumatic circuit.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
The student will know the correct way to connect the equipment.
Analyze the sequence of operation.

2.0 THEORETICAL FOUNDATION.

Production of compressed air.
1. Piston compressor.
This compressor draws air to atmospheric pressure and then compresses. It consists of the
intake and exhaust valves, plunger and connecting rod-crank.
Admission: The tree rotates clockwise. The connecting rod descends the plunger down and the
intake valve allows air to enter 10º after the top dead center, to the bottom dead center.
Escape: In the bottom dead center the valve closes, and at moving the plunger compresses
the air. Under the effect of pressure, air is opened and circulated compressed to the consumer.

3.0 SAFETY ASPECTS

General information
• Students will only be able to work with their teams in the presence of an instructor.
• Carefully read the data sheets for each of the items and, in particular, observe the respective safety
instructions.

Mechanical part
• Mount all components firmly on the profiled plate.
• The end position detectors must not be operated in the frontal position.
• Danger of accident during troubleshooting!
To operate the end position detectors, use a tool (for screwdriver).
• Handle station components only if desconecté. [5]

MATERIAL, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED
1) Material
• Compressor
• Maintenance unit
• Valve 3/4 closed center, spring centered, lever operated
• Flow regulating valves
• 8 pneumatic mangers
• Masking-tape
• Marker
2) Tools
• scissors

7.0 RESULTS
7.0 RESULTS
7.1) Document the methodology used
The applied methodology was basically the use of the diagram elaborated in FLUIDSIM, using and
observing each part with its real component taking into account hose sizes and indications of the teacher,
we put everything in order and we indicate in a continuous way the parts to identify them as either us
Anyone.

7.2) Briefly describe 2 alternatives to solve the same problem.

1) we could divert the surplus instead of the environment to another actuator or motor to be able to take
advantage of it and thus to make more use of it
2) to make the revision of the armado since the sorting of the hoses in their majority were for not knowing
how to place them or not to do it of the most appropriate way so it is recommended always to make a final
revision before putting the pressure.

Questionnaire

1. What teaching did today's practice leave?

This practice taught us how valves work and how we must connect this valves to the piston, also we saw that a
pneumatic circuit needs to be carefully connected because if a component is not in the correct position our
components could get damaged.

2. How do I interact with your work team?

Our teamwork worked well, the whole time we were working together and we had the same objective
so we all collaborate and we did not have troubles.

3. How did you feel before, during and after practice?

Before the practice, we all felt impatient and we were motivated to learn things that the most of us had not seen
before.
During the practice, we were a little bit nervous because we were not sure if everything was done correctly, and
we got amazed because we could apply all the knowledge we got in our class.
After the practice, we were satisfied with our work, and we felt thrilled to learn more things related to pneumatic
circuits.

4. What difficulties did you have during practice and how did you deal with them?
During practice, the main difficulty was that when we connected the hoses we did not adjust them well and
therefore the system did not work properly, some of us did not understand the diagram well and this caused a
small delay, both failures could have been prevented by verifying the connections.

5. How do I react to peer criticism?

At all time, there was an atmosphere of companionship, some colleagues did not understand how to connect the
hoses in the system but those who understood were empathic and helped us to understand the diagram well to
put it into practice.

6. Based on what you see on what topic (s) you would like to know more?
We would like to know more about pneumatics, valve operation, learn more about the equipment used in
pneumatic circuits and how the components work internally.

8.0 CONCLUSIONS

Overall this was a good learning experience to start the course with, while mistakes are often associated as
something negative, in this kind of experiment it works better as something to help us understand the
fundamentals of pneumatics, for us to apply it in real life situations where this kind of mistakes could lead to
catastrophic results. Also it is worth mentioning the fact that we have to get used to work as a team, if we all
collaborate to get our goal achieved, without leaving anyone behind; we are more likely to secure the success of
our future endeavors.
