Universal Design for Learning (UDL): UDL is all about being able to include every student. My lesson plan
does not prohibit any student from learning however, children who have trouble moving might not be able to
make it to the board to write out the letters. In this case, I could give them their own white board to write on
and practice. If the iPad isn’t big enough, I would get the largest tablet I could find.
Lesson idea implementation: For this lesson, I would start off by asking the children if they know what upper
and lower case letters are. I would ask anyone who thinks they know to come up a draw a lower case and
upper case letter. I would then play the BrainPop video. Afterwards I will review the types of words that get a
capital letter (names, places, etc). I will then ask the children to name some things that get capital letters. I
will write the thing on the board and then have the child change the letter to a capital one. I would then use
the app “Wet-Dry-Try.” It is an app that allows children to practice writing letters on apple products. I would
use them on iPad for the class.
This lesson would take up the time of reading. I will assess if the children have learned by their ability to
write capital letters. If the children can recognize when a capital letter is used, that is just a bonus and is the
"apply" section of Bloom's taxonomy. I will conclude the lesson by having the students write out their names

is all lower case and then all upper case. I will then have them write it out with the first letter capitalized and
the rest lower cased. I will have them turn that into me and I will correct it if needed.
Reflective Practice: I feel like this activity impacts student learning by making it fun. Children love to watch
videos and so why not let them learn while watching. To further expand this lesson, I would have the children
use the quizzes and games from BrainPop that I could use with the students.
