SURFACE All surfaces must be sound, dry, clean, free of oil, grease, dirt, mildew, curing compounds, loose
PREPARATION and flaking paint and other foreign substances.

New Surfaces:

Concrete, Plaster and Masonry

Cure at least 30 days before painting. pH must be 10.0 or lower. Remove laitance and roughen
unusually slick poured or pre-cast concrete by acid etching or abrasive sweeping. Follow acid
manufacturer’s application and safety instructions. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry.
Remove loose aggregate. Prime with this product. Fill concrete block with Bloxfil 4000 or Glidden
Professional 3010 fillers.

Steel:
Exterior: Unigrip 4380 should be applied to a substrate which has been correctly prepared and
primed using Devshield 4130, Devguard 4160 or 4360 primers. Interior: Prime with Unigrip 4380;
areas subject to occasional humidity or constant moisture should be primed with Devshield 4130,
Devguard 4160 or 4360 primers. See primer datasheets for further information.

Galvanized Metal and Aluminium

Degrease to SSPC-SP1 and remove any white zinc corrosion products by hand abrasion cleaning.
Self prime with Unigrip 4380.

Preprimed Roof Decking

Ensure that the primer surface is clean and dry. Self prime with Unigrip 4380

Previously Painted Surfaces:

Wash to remove contaminants. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. Dull glossy areas by
light sanding. Remove sanding dust. Remove loose paint. Scrub heavy chalk exterior areas and
overhead areas such as eaves with soap and water. Remove all mildew by washing with a solution
of 16 oz (473 ml) liquid household bleach and two oz (59 ml) non-ammoniated liquid detergent per
gallon (3.785 litres) of water. Rinse surfaces clean with water and allow to dry. Wire brush rusty
areas and prime these areas with solvent borne Devshield 4130 primer.

APPLICATION Mixing This material is a one component coating and should always be mixed
thoroughly with a power agitator before application.

Airless Spray Recommended Use a 0.43 mm (17 thou) tip size and adjust
pressure as needed.

Thinner Do not thin

Cleaner T-5 Thinner or xylene
Work Stoppages Do not allow material to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment.
Thoroughly flush all equipment with T-5 Thinner or xylene. Once units of
material have been mixed they should not be resealed and it is advised
that after prolonged stoppages work recommences with freshly mixed
units.

Clean Up Clean all equipment immediately after use with T-5 Thinner or xylene. It is
good working practice to periodically flush out spray equipment during the
course of the working day. Frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount
sprayed, temperature and elapsed time, including any delays.

All surplus materials and empty containers should be disposed of in

accordance with appropriate regional regulations/legislation.

PRODUCT Advantages:
CHARACTERISTICS
- Attractive flat appearance
- All purpose coating for most overhead surfaces
- Rapid dry
- Easy clean-up of overspray
- Good moisture resistance
- Excellent adhesion
- Resistant to discoloration from mild fumes

Not recommended on exterior wood or exterior areas subject to direct weathering.

Important: For best adhesion, maximum film thickness must be less than 125 microns (5.0 mils)
dry. Overbuilding and/or dry spraying may cause poor adhesion and peeling.

Tinting: Tint with AkzoNobel Dramatone colourants or with industrial colourants.

Apply in good climatic conditions. The temperature of the surface to be coated should be above 4ºC
(40ºF) and at least 3ºC (5ºF) above the dew point.

Note: VOC values are typical and are provided for guidance purpose only. These may be subject
to variation depending on factors such as differences in colour and normal manufacturing
tolerances.

SYSTEMS Unigrip 4380 is normally applied directly to blast cleaned steel; however, it can be applied over the
COMPATIBILITY following primers when required:

Bloxfil 4000
Devguard 4160
Devguard 4360
Devshield 4130
