Introduction
Note: Within this instruction, the term PC refers to the device on which the utility software is loaded. The term, PC, can be
either a desktop personal computer or else a laptop computer.

This instruction assists in programming the multiline-2 controller, part number 238-4635 using the Cat version NEXG-5078 of
the utility software.

Configuration file changes supplied by the manufacturer cause programming issues. A controller that uses new Cat version
configuration files cannot be programmed using a PC that is loaded with the old (DEIF) utility software.
Set Repostería 34 Piezas Azul
When the incorrect utility software is used in order to program the controller, the controller may not operate correctly. For Bakers Dreams & Beginers.

example, the starter relay may not operate if incompatible software is used. If the Cat version configuration file is downloaded $1.099
to the controller using the latest Cat version NEXG-5078 utility software, then the controller should operate correctly.

This special instruction provides information of how to determine the compatibility of software versions that are loaded in both 45%OFF
the controller and the PC. This special instruction provides information of how to determine if the versions are incompatible

and the method for updating the software.

For controllers that are in service and operating correctly, no action is needed. This instruction only applies when
programming or reprogramming is required when connected to a PC.

The correct files must be loaded in both the controller and in the PC in order to ensure compatibility between the two devices.
Use the process flow in this section in order to ensure that the latest configuration file is loaded into the controller. Use the
process flow in this section to ensure that the latest utility software is installed on the PC.

Each step within the process flow is described in detail in later sections of this Special Instruction. Illustration 17 provides a
single page reference flow chart of the complete process.

1. Determine which version of the software is loaded on the PC.

2. Determine which version of the software is loaded on the controller.

3. Referring to Table 2, determine whether an upgrade to either the PC or to the controller is needed in order to ensure
compatibility.

Installing the CAT Controller Software

If CAT utility software is installed in the PC, then in order to ensure compatibility, CAT controller software is required on the
controller. The following sections discuss the procedure for installing the CAT software in the controller. The process consists
of:

Uploading the parameters from the controller in order to create a parameter file [OPTIONAL]

Downloading the CAT configuration file to the controller

Downloading the optionally created parameter file to the controller [OPTIONAL]

Adjusting the parameters that were optionally downloaded to the controller as required [OPTIONAL]

Uploading the Parameters from the Controller [OPTIONAL]

If the existing parameters are to be downloaded into the controller, then the parameters must first be uploaded to the PC
using the following procedure. This procedure must be completed prior to loading the CAT controller software into the
controller.

1. On the toolbar at the left of the window, select Parameters. The device icon toolbar opens.

Illustration 8 g01218713

2. On the device icon toolbar, select the Upload parameters icon (4). The system begins transferring file data from the
controller.

3. After the data transfer is complete, select File and then select Save.

4. Enter the name under which the file is to be saved.

5. Select Save in order to save the new parameters to the designated file.

Downloading the CAT Configuration File to the Controller

Note: If desired, ensure that the existing parameters have been uploaded from the controller before the CAT configuration file
is downloaded to the controller. Once the CAT configuration file is downloaded, the existing parameters can no longer be
accessed.

Connect to the controller and then download the CAT configuration file from the PC to the controller. The following sections
discuss this process.

Connect to the Controller

1. Remove the front cover of the controller.

2. Perform the following in order to upload the information from the controller. Connect a null modem cable from the
communication port in the PC to the service port on the controller.
Note: A null modem cable can be ordered. Use part number 243-3143 (part of 243-3142 Controller Service GP ).

Note: If a cable is not available, a cable can be built according to the wiring diagram in Illustration 9.

Illustration 9 g01218992
Attach the shield (5) of the null modem cable to the metallic casing of the plugs. If the plugs have non-metallic casings, then
leave the shield unconnected.

Note: There is no need to connect the front cover in order to communicate with the PC. However, the front cover must
be connected in order to operate the controller. Operation of the controller is accomplished while connected to the PC.
Connection to the PC requires a 1U-9484 Cable Harness from the controller to the front cover. The 1U-9484 Cable
Harness is part of the 243-3142 Controller Service GP .

5. After the selected program has been successfully flashed, then select OK in order to reboot the controller.

Downloading the Parameter File to the Controller [OPTIONAL]

Note: This section only applies if the existing parameters were optionally uploaded to the PC prior to loading the CAT
configuration file to the controller.

After the CAT configuration file has been loaded into the controller, then the optionally created parameter file may be
downloaded to the controller.

Note: Prior to completing the following procedure, ensure that the CAT utility software has been installed.

Adjusting the Controller Parameters [OPTIONAL]

After the CAT configuration file and the optionally created parameter file have been downloaded to the controller, then the
parameters can be adjusted using one of two methods.

If needed, the parameters can be adjusted by using either the front panel of the controller, or else by using the Utility
software.

Adjusting Parameters Using the Utility Software

1. Select Parameters in the tool bar that is located to the left of the main window. The "Parameters" window opens.

2. In the Parameters window, select Open File.

3. Select the required Parameter file and then select Open. A screen appears listing parameter information such as the
category, the channel, a textual description, and other values associated with the parameter.

4. Double-click the parameter that is to be adjusted.

Note: When adjusting a parameter, be aware that related parameters may also need to be adjusted, for example,
Nominal Voltage and Power Output.Max.

5. Modify the values of the parameter as required by selecting the value and entering the new setting in the field.
