To restrain longings great and small,
And to resist temptations all.

SHRI PARAMHANS
AMRIT KATHA
Immortal Biography Of Shri Shri 108
Shri Swami Beant Anand Ji Maharaj The
Fourth Magnificent Master

(Continued from the previous Issue)

O My Supreme Lord! Our Fourth

Omniscient Master! You have so graciously blazed
the path of loveful devotion by being an ideal
apostle of the same, thereby inspiring all aspirants
to strive for the cherished spiritual goal of this
invaluable human life and enriching their lives with
bliss, joy and peace. The aspirants, the world over,
bow in reverent homage at Your Lotus Feet and
humbly pray:

You are the Divine Refuge of aspirants all,

May we aspire to move and live in Thee
At times all. Thou art the ‘Satt’ we have
Longed for, Pray, fill our being with
Thy ‘Satt’, whether big or small.
Spiritual Bliss 10 August 2017

Thou art our Eternal Home, Thy

Pleasure Divine, may we never forget
Thee, O Our Beloved Benign.

We continue this biography of the Spiritual

Emperor, the Fourth Holy Master, Who has
bestowed the Divine technique to attain union with
the Lord, the cherished goal of human existence.

The signs of His Greatness, reflected in His

Personality, have been described in detail in the
previousissue. One more instance of His implicit
obedience to the Master is reproduced here. Such
instances may appear to be small in the face of His
Greatness, but then, small things go to make a big
one. While surveying His great virtues, we may
peep within to find out whether any of those virtues
is present in us and to what extent? If not, then, we
should realize that the personalities of Great Ones
alone inspire us to imbibe those virtues as far as
possible. By studying Theirlives, an urge arises in
one‟s mind to follow in Their foot-steps and
nurture those virtues within. When such an urge
becomes stronger, one gets busy whole-heartedly in
imbibing those virtues and to act accordingly.
Thus, he marches on the path of devotion and can
easily reach his destination in due course of time.
The incident of His life, given below, relates to the
Great Virtue of Obedience to the Holy Master and
Spiritual Bliss 11 August 2017

tolerance, of which, the Fourth Holy Master was an

Embodiment.

Once, the Fourth Master went to Guna on

some official work with the Permission of the
Third Master. He had not yet finished the work,
when He received Instructions from the Third
Master to reach Shri Anandpur by the night, as
there was some urgent work awaiting His attention.
The moment He got theseinstructions, He at once
went to the office and somehow managed to
complete the assignment. The train for Ashok
Nagar was due to arrive. He started walking swiftly
from the office to the Railway Station through a
short-cut route which lay across the Railway lines.
On the way, some coal ash with some burning
coals, dropped by the Railway engine, was lying
along the track. In haste, He did not notice and
stepped on it. At once, a part of His sole got
charred causing him extreme pain. But, He did not
care about this. He took out a piece of cloth from
His bag and tied His foot with it and reached the
Railway Station. He boarded the train and arrived
at Ashok Nagar. There a devotee entreated Him to
get His foot dressed and then go to Shri Anandpur
next morning. But the Holy Master‟s instructions
were uppermost in His mind. He quietly took the
bus and reached Shri Anandpur.

At night, when it was time for the Second

Master‟s Holy Vision, He reached the main hall
Spiritual Bliss 12 August 2017

before the Master had arrived to bestow the Divine

Vision and sat there, so that the Master might not
know about His charred foot. When the Master
arrived, He gave full details of the work done at
Guna to Him. His aim was that the Master should
know nothing about the burning of His foot. When
He was returning from the Master, a devotee
indicated to the Master about His charred foot. The
Master recalled Him and observed, “What was the
hurry to come here? You should have first got Your
foot treated and dressed. I am surprised at Your
endurance that You have given not even a hint of
it.”
The Fourth Master replied with folded
hands, “Lord! If I had My foot treated and dressed
earlier, how could have I carried out Your
Command of reaching here by the night? The body
has to suffer sometime or the other.” Then, Shri
Sadguru Dev Ji Maharaj observed, “All right, go to
Ashok Nagar and get Your Foot treated. You don‟t
have to do any work till Yourfoot recovers.” The
Master also sent Mahatma Vichar Prakash AnandJi
with Him to attend upon Him. As per the Master‟s
Command, He went back to Ashok Nagar and got
His foot treated. Mahatma Ji served Him well with
devotion. The Doctor, who treated Him, also
appreciated His Power of Endurance. After a few
days, when His foot got healed up, He resumed His
duties.
Spiritual Bliss 13 August 2017

It is a point to consider as to what Great

Virtue of tolerance did the Fourth Master display?
What He demonstrated was that true devotion can
be acquired by rising above physical pain. If
attention is diverted to any other side such as body,
mind, wealth etc. one is led astray from the path of
devotion. To attain devotion, the mind, word and
deed must be fully dedicated to the path.

Whenever a man resolves to reach any place

on foot, he has to face and bear many ups and
downs - the sunshine, heat and fatigue etc. on the
way. If he hopes to reach the destination without
undergoing any suffering, he is only deceiving
himself. Similarly, one has to face many obstacles
on the path of devotion. The first obstacle is the
body itself. It goes on creating difficulties for one,
who intends to tread the path of devotion. Only he,
who rises above the body and mind, can attain
success in this path. Saint Daya Bai Ji has said:

Doha
Aap maran bhaye doorr kari,
Maarat ripu ko jaaye;
Mahaa moh dall dallan kari,
Rahaai saroop samaayee.

Eradicating the fear of one‟s own death, one

has to kill one‟s enemies. When the enemies like
attachment and greed etc. get killed, only then, one
merges with God and attains to Immortality.
Spiritual Bliss 14 August 2017

Thus, the Fourth Master carried on with the

work of Spiritual Propagation in disregard of the
physical comforts. In 1936, Shri Sadguru Dev Ji
Maharaj, the Third Master made Him (the Fourth
Master) General Attorney for all the Chaks (in
Gwalior State) affiliated with Shri Anandpur. Later
on in 1954, after the formation of Shri Anandpur
Trust, He was made the operational head of the
trust. In addition, whatever work was entrusted to
Him by the Third Master, He atonce attended to it
with full zeal. Although He actively participated in
every work pertaining to Shri Anandpur, yet, His
share in the selfless service of Shri Anandsar was
particularly notable.

In 1960, on the festival of Deepawali, when

the Third Master decided to complete the
construction of Shri Anandsar at an early date, He
(the Fourth Holy Master) used to remain present on
the banks of Shri Anandsar the whole day to inspire
the devotees, residents of Shri Anandpur as well as
those who came from outside, to work with full
devotion and zest. All of them regarded themselves
as fortunate for being blessed with such rare
service. The responsibility of assigning the duties
to the devotees, purchasing of construction
materials from outside, resolving any problems in
the progress of the work, supervising the work all
around etc. rested on His shoulders. Along with
this, He also looked after the work at Ashok Nagar.
Spiritual Bliss 15 August 2017

In the beginning, He used to go there every second

or third day to monitor the work, but when the full
responsibility of Shri Anandsar was entrusted to
Him, He concentrated all His energies on the
development of Shri Anandsar right till laying of
the floor-work. He never took rest in those days.
He took His lunch on the banks of Shri Anandsar
and used to be the last to leave at night for His
residence and the first to arrive there in the
morning. So long as Shri Anandsar was not
completed, He never cared for rest. He continued to
discharge His duties in accordance with the Wishes
of the Third Divine Master with full sense of
responsibility. The flooring work was fully
accomplished within one and half year from
November 1960 to April 1962. Shri Sadguru Dev Ji
Maharaj felt extremely happy to see the work
accomplished.

Once, the Third Spiritual Master asked Him

to go to Jalandhar on an urgent piece of work. He
left Shri Anandpur for Jalandhar accordingly. The
festival of Janam Ashtami was also at hand, but
after reaching there, it took Him long to finish that
work. So, the Fourth Holy Master had to celebrate
the festival of Janam Ashtami at Jalandhar.

He was firm in obeying the Master‟s

Commands and also had great love for the Master
as well. When He returned to Shri Anandpur and
presented Himself before the Third Master, the
Spiritual Bliss 16 August 2017

Master observed, “Have you come?” On hearing

this, tears of love started rolling down His cheeks.
Mahatma Vichar Param Anand Ji was present
there. He thought that since the Fourth Master had
celebrated the festival outside that time, so, He was
shedding tears of Love. Just then, the Third Master
again enquired of Him, “Have you celebrated the
festival of Janam Ashtami at Jalandhar?” The
Fourth Master replied, “Lord! With Your Grace, I
witnessed all that had happened here on the night
of Janam Ashtami, envisioned Your Divine Sports
and had Your Holy Vision too, while sitting in
Jalandhar.” The Master smiling said, “Surely,
nothing is hidden from You.”

Mahatma Vichar Param Anand Ji was

surprised to see that on one side, the Fourth Master
had witnessed the Divine Scene of Shri Anandpur
while at Jalandhar and on the other, He was
shedding tears of love. The fact is that although an
inborn incarnation, He was setting an ideal
example of love for and obedience to the Master.
He thus demonstrated to the devotees and aspirants
of the path of devotion that love is related to one‟s
mind or heart. True love has the power of magnetic
attraction from a distance of lakhs and crores of
miles and despite all that distance, a true devotee is
ever close to the Master. What is needed is true
love. He, then, informed the Master about the
progress of the work entrusted to Him.
Spiritual Bliss 17 August 2017

Thus, the Fourth Master obeyed the Second

Master and the Third Master with full faith and
devotion. He carried out every wish and command
of the Masters in letter and spirit. He was most dear
to the Second Master. He was a great friend and a
devout devotee of the Third Holy Master, and
hence, very dear to Him. The Third Master had
great regard for Him, because the Great Ones have
age-old relations. Having attained self-realization,
They recognize each other. But They do not
disclose this secret to anyone before the right time.
Rather, They live and work in this world like
common men. In other words, They live with
others intimately and follow the principles of
devotion like any other devotee. They do not show
Themselves off as great in the presence of other
devotees and keep Their powers concealed. Even
then, the greatness of the Great Ones becomes
visible in Their acts. Before They actually reveal
Themselves, Their greatness becomes visible to
one and all, but like the lightning or a momentary
flash. When they actually reveal Themselves, Their
Greatness is there for all to see like the shining Sun
in the clear blue sky. The life of the Fourth Master
was in keeping with similar traditions of the Great
Ones.

Shri Sadguru Dev Ji Maharaj, the Third

Divine Master, looked at Him (the Fourth Master)
with great affection and regard. Although He knew
Spiritual Bliss 18 August 2017

that the Divine Master was the Fourth Successor on

the path of spirituality, but He never disclosed this
secret to anyone. As is the tradition with the Great
Ones, this divine knowledge is carried fromheart to
heart and They transfer Their spiritual powers
secretly. In accordance with the age-old tradition,
when the Third Master decided to leave for His
heavenly Abode, He completed the work of
selecting His Spiritual Successor six months before
He attained Maha-Nirvana.

In October 1963, Shri Sadguru Dev Ji

Maharaj, the Third Spiritual Master was at Naigaon
(Shri Prayagdham). On 28th October 1963, He
asked Mahatma Darshan Alakh Anand Ji to send a
telegram asking the Fourth Holy Master and
Mahatma Satgur Sewa Anand Ji to come to Shri
Prayagdham immediately. The Fourth Master at
that time had gone to Guna for some work. When
the telegram reached Shri Anandpur, He was
telephonically informed about it at Guna. At that
time, He had no extra clothes other than those He
was wearing. Even then, He did not return to Shri
Anandpur. The moment He got the information, He
left for NaiGaon. Simultaneously, Mahatma Satgur
Sewa Anand Ji also left Shri Anandpur for
Naigaon. Both of them reached there on 30th
October, 1963 and presented themselves at the
Lotus Feet of the Third Divine Master. On 31 st
October 1963, the Third Divine Master disclosed
Spiritual Bliss 19 August 2017

His Desire to appoint the Fourth Master as His

Spiritual Successor. The details have already been
given in the Chapter on the life of the Third Holy
Master. Thus, He bestowed His Spiritual Powers
on the Fourth Master that very day in seclusion and
communed to Him the Divine Import of
Spiritualism.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
KNOWLEDGE ANDDEVOTION

(Continued from the previous issue)

In the last issue, Kak Bhushundi Ji

enlightens Garud Ji the hard way to kindle the lamp
of knowledge and that all effort is thwarted by
Lord‟s sport, i.e. the world creation, which
contrives to extinguish the lamp. The aspirant
becomes worldly again, even worse than before
and finds this world creation‟sobstacles impassable
and extremely difficult to rekindle the lamp of
knowledge. Kak Bhushundi Ji continues:
Chaupai

Gyaan panth kripaan kai dhaaraa,

Parat khages hoyee nahin baaraa.
Jo nirbighan panth nirbahayee,
Sau kaaivalya param padd lahayee.
Spiritual Bliss 22 August 2017

The path of knowledge is like sharp edge

Of a sword, it’s true, In no time,
One may fall off, only to rue.

Whosoever is able to forge ahead

With determined mind, attains only
Salvation called Supreme Status fine.
The Supreme Status is indeed hard
Spiritual Bliss 23 August 2017

To attain, Saints, Puranas, Shastras

And Vedas so maintain. O lord of birds!
The same salvation to one engaged in
Devotion, falls to his lot undesired,
Without effort or commotion.

Without surface of earth, as water

Cannot stay anywhere, even if
One tries in millions of ways with care.

Similarly, listen, O bird chief!

Joy of salvation or liberation cannot be
Retained, if not engaged constantly
In Lord’s devotion. The wise devotees
Remain engaged in Hari’s devotion
And care not for salvation or liberation.

If one remains immersed without

Effort in devotion, ignorance gets
Destroyed, cause of transmigration.

Human beingeats food to his own satisfaction,

But the fire of stomach helps in its
Digestion. Likewise, Lord’s devotion
Is easy and bestows happiness.

Who will be such a one to spurn it

In foolishness.
Spiritual Bliss 24 August 2017

Kak Bhushundi Ji says: “Hey Garud Ji! The

path of knowledge is like the sharp edge of a
sword. It takes no time to fall off such a path.
Though one manages to get across the path, even
then, he merits to attainsalvation, to which Saints
call Supreme Status. This status of salvation is
extremely difficult to attain, so enunciated by the
Saints, Vedas and Shastras. Hey Gosain! While
engaging in the Lord‟s devotion, salvation falls to
the lot of the devotee without desire or effort. And
then, Hey Garud Ji! The joy of salvation depends
upon devotion of the Lord.”

Just as water cannot stay unless it has

support of the earth, in the same way, comfort of
salvation cannot be had without unceasing devotion
of the Lord. Hence, the true devotees alone can
experience the happiness of salvation. The wise
devotees harbour this very thought in their mind
and do not wish or hope for salvation. They ever
remain engaged in devotion of their Beloved Lord,
because when engaged in devotion, the ignorance
gets dispelled without effort on other means, thus,
they get rid of the cycle of births and deaths - the
main cause of which is ignorance. Just as one takes
meals to his satisfaction, but the fire of the stomach
helps in its digestion, similarly, whatever the
devotees do with the will and pleasure of the Lord,
devotion absorbs those, because deeds done, in
accord with will and pleasure of the Lord, are
Spiritual Bliss 25 August 2017

selfless in character and do not become seeds that

re-germinate. This mystery must be fully
comprehended. Whosoever grabs this mystery, it is
easy for him to tread the path of devotion.” Kak
Bhushundi Ji further says, “So easy and bestower
of joy and bliss is devotion of the Lord. Who
would be such a fool not to like it?”
Doha

World cannot be crossed ever, to rue,
Adore Sri Rama’s Lotus Feet,
Consider this principle, so true.

Hey Garud Ji! An aspirant cannot cross the

cosmic ocean without service and love of the Lord.
Keeping this principle in view, he should earnestly
and ceaselessly engage in devotion of the Lord.

Lord’s Devotion is like a precious jewel,

O Garuda ! In whosoever’s heart,
It does dwell, Divine Radiance, it emits
Perpetually day and night. Needs
No lamp, no butter, no wick to light.
Neither attachment, nor penury shall
Spiritual Bliss 27 August 2017

Ensue; storm of violent greed cannot

Extinguish it too. Swarms of moths
Of ignorance, devotion does dispel.
Vicious propensities dare not come
Near, where it doth dwell. Approaches
Not the soul, lust, the vicious
Propensity, in whose heart, dwells
DevotionOf the Lord firmly.
For Him, Venom becomes nectar,
Enemy a friend truly. Hence,one,
Without the jewel of Devotion, can
Attain not joy any. Never assails him
Any mental disease or ailment,
By which, all living beings dwell in
Predicament. In whose heart, abides
Jewel of Lord Rama’s Devotion,
Even in dream, he encounters not
Slightest vexation. In the world, they
Are paragons of wisdom truly,
To procure this jewel, they labour
Vigorously.

Kak Bhushundi Ji says, “Hey Garud Ji! I

have explained in detail about the principle of
knowledge. Now, whosoever‟s heart is adorned by
the gem of devotion, which is wish-fulfilling jewel,
his inner being remains illumined day and night. To
manifest this radiant light within, no lamp is
required, because the gem of devotion is itself a
font of light. This gem of devotion has two virtues.
Spiritual Bliss 28 August 2017

One is, that it is the very font of light and the

second is, that it bestows whatever is cherished by
the mind. Therefore, in the presence of this light,
mis-alignments of the mind do not come anywhere
near a devotee and the storm of greed cannot
extinguish the light of the gem of devotion.
Whosoever‟s heart is adorned by the light of gem
of devotion, darkness of ignorance gets dispelled
automatically. Further on, greed, anger, lust etc.
cannot assail such a heart. In other words, these
lose their sting. By the influence of this gem of
devotion, even poison is transformed into nectar,
and enemies become friends. The history of the
devotees of Lord reveals this, because the Lord, the
true friend of devotees, Himself protects them.
There is another great virtue in devotion, in that,
the devotees never suffer from woes and miseries,
which the worldly people all over the world are
suffering from. Because devotion is panacea of all
ills. Whose heart is always immersed in devotion of
the Lord, he cannot suffer from any misery even in
a dream. In other words, he forever revels in joy and
bliss. Wise and distinctive are those people, who
always strive to adorn their being with the gem of
devotion. Kak Bhushundi Ji further says:

Chaupai

Sau mani jadapi pragat jagg ahayee,

Ram kripaa binu nahin kou lahayee.
Spiritual Bliss 29 August 2017

Sugam upaye paayeebe kere,

Narr hattbhagya dehin bhatt bhere.

Morein mann Prabhu uss biswaasaa,

Sau binu Sant naa kaahun paayee.

The Gem of devotion manifests in the world

All over. But without Grace of Sri Rama,
Can one attain never. For achieving this
Gem, the way is easy for sure, but
Unfortunately, people pay no attention,
No cure. Vedas and Puranas, so pious
Scriptures relate Rama’s Katha and
Present mines in beautiful pictures.
Wise and Saints, aware of these mines,
Use intellect to search. So, Garud Ji,
Use Gnosis and dispassion as eye to
Use pick axe. Thus, those, who search
Thoroughly and earnestly, font of all
Spiritual Bliss 30 August 2017

Joys, eventually find the gem of devotion.

Garud Ji, I believe strongly in my mind,
Really a devotee than the Lord is of
Greater kind. If Lord Rama is an ocean,
Saints turn clouds, who drew water
From the sea and spread it around.
If Lord is like Sandal tree with fine
Fragrance, Saints act as breeze, who
Transform others infusing same Fragrance.
Reward of all endeavors, is Lord’s
Devotion, which cannot be acquired
Without Saints’ association. Whosoever
Cultivates fellowship of Lord Holy,
Attains Devotion of Lord Rama so easily.

Hey Garud Ji! “Even though the gem of

devotion is manifest in the world, but it is by the
Grace of the Lord or so to say, without the divine
grace and noble tendencies over numerous births,
no one can attain this gem of devotion. Although,
the means to attain this gem of devotion are easy,
yet, unfortunate human beings abjure the same. In
other words, lust, anger, greed etc. valiant enemies
of devotees push the man away from the path of
devotion and throw him at a long distance. This
way, the worldly creation, which is the dire enemy
of devotion, creates obstacles in the way of the
aspiring ones and do not allow them to attain the
gem of devotion.
Spiritual Bliss 31 August 2017

How can one attain this gem of devotion?”

Kak Bhushundi Ji gives the proof of the same and
enlightens: “Hey Garud Ji! Vedas, Shastras,
Puranas and Holy Scriptures relate tales of the
Lord, which are beautiful mines. Those, wise
persons, who are aware of these mines and by
requisite effort, succeed to attain this gem of
devotion. “Hey Garud Ji! I believe that devotees
are superior to their Lord, because Lord is like an
ocean and devotees with limitless patience are
clouds like saints, who draw water from the sea and
spray it all over.” He says further that Lord is
sandal tree and saints are like soft breeze, who bask
in the fragrance of sandal tree and then, make other
trees as sandal-wood fragrant trees.

BHAGAT GATHA
BHAGAT DAMODAR AND HIS WIFE

Long time ago, there lived a poor Brahmin

with his wife in Kanchi, a famous city in South
India. His name was Damodar. He was devoted to
the Lord and derived pleasure in serving Saints. His
wife was equally devoted and ever ready to serve
the Saints and guests coming to their house. They
had no children. Alms were the only source of their
livelihood.

It was their routine to get up early in the

morning, bathe and then get fully immersed in
prayers, recitation of the Name of Lord and
meditation. In the evening, after Sunset, Damodar
would go for alms with the Name of the Lord on
his lips and whatever he got, they would accept as
the Lord‟s blessing and be fully content with it.
Whenever, a Saint or Learned One would call upon
them, they would serve him with devotion and
offer meals to him. Whatever was left over, would
be accepted as Lord‟s gift happily. Even if nothing
Spiritual Bliss 33 August 2017

was left over, they would be content with water.

They had no desire whatsoever other than the
devotion of the Lord.
A goldsmith, before he converts gold into
beautiful ornaments, puts it in fire, so that the lustre
may emerge. Exactly in the same manner, the Lord
decided to contrive a sport to test the couple and
acquaint the world with their eminent greatness.
The Lord assumed the form of an old ascetic and
knocked at their door. As luck would have it,
Damodar had not got any alms that day. Both of
them drank water and thanked the Lord. But one
fear lurked in their minds. What would happen if a
Saint were to come for meals? They prayed, “O
Lord! You are gracious and kind. You alone can
protect the honour of Your devotees. This fear is
gnawing at our vitals. How would we offer meals
to a Saint if at all he comes? O Lord! Thou art our
only refuge.”

Just as they prayed, a voice came, „O

Damodar Das! O Damodar Das!‟ Damodar Das
came out and saw an old ascetic, tired and hungry,
in tattered clothes standing at his door. Damodar
paid his respects and invited him in. The ascetic
said, “Are you Damodar? Is it your house?”
Damodar replied, “My Lord! This humble hut of
Damodar is at your disposal. Pray, sanctify it with
your lotus feet.”
Spiritual Bliss 34 August 2017

The old Sanyasi smiled and said, “I have

heard a lot about you that you are a devotee of the
Lord and serve the Saints with devotion. I am
hungry, so I thought you are the right person to go
to. I am trembling because of hunger. Please give
me a meal quickly. I have not begged elsewhere in
the city because I accept a meal only from a
devotee of the Lord. I can accept a frugal meal in a
devotee‟s house offered with love, but I spurn
delicious dishes of those, who do not harbour love
of the Lord in their hearts. Since you are an ardent
devotee of the Lord, so I have come to you. Hence,
be quick.”

The old ascetic‟s words have great import.

This shows, Lord only values love and faith. He
does not need luxurious hospitality. Whatever is
offered with love, faith and humility is adored by
the Lord. Saint Paltu Sahib Ji says:

Spiritual Bliss 36 August 2017

Nothing counts except love and devotion.

It is clear that the Lord only needs love and

devotion with faith. Lord Krishna says:

Sheyar

Maain nazar kartaa hoon

Whosoever offers with devotion,

A leaf, flower or a fruit, as oblation;

Or water, know this, this offering job

Of the pure heart, I accept with love.

(Gita IX/26)

On which account, Bhagat Damodar and his

wife had feared, had come to pass. They had indeed
nothing to offer. Yet, with faith in his heart, he
requested the ascetic, “I am indeed fortunate today
that you have blessed me. You seem to be tired. So,
have some rest on this bed of grass, while I get the
meal ready for you.” He washed the feet of ascetic,
accepted the Charanamrit (nectar from washing the
ascetic‟s holy feet) and told him to take rest.
Spiritual Bliss 37 August 2017

He went inside and told his wife, “Anascetic

has come. He is to be served a meal. What should
we do now? We have nothing in the house. His
wife said, “You know the condition well. There is
not a thing even which we can sell and buy food
grains.” Tears filled their eyes. If the guest was not
entertained, what will befall? This life would have
been wasted. How would they face the Lord, if one
of His devotee is returned without serving the meal.
They prayed to the Lord to show the way out.

Suddenly, the light dawned. His wife

laughed and said, “Nothing to worry. My hair are
long, curly and beautiful. Cut these and make an
attractive rope and then sell it in the market. It will
fetch enough price to buy food stuff for the guest.
The idea brightened them. They quickly made a
rope of her hair and Bhagat Damodar went to the
Market to sell it.

The ascetic, the Omniscient Lord, was

snoring with an effable smile upon His lips.
Damodar‟s wife started fanning Him. Luckily,
Damodar soon found a customer, sold the rope and
brought the food stuff home. A meal was prepared
quickly. They massaged the ascetic‟s feet,
whowoke up and asked for a meal. They washed
His hands and feet and seated Him.
Spiritual Bliss 38 August 2017

Who can fathom the bliss that enveloped Damodar

and his wife! How fortunate were they? Their fear
vanished, for, they had been able to serve the meal
to a hungry ascetic, Who was the Lord Himself. Of
course, they know it not. They seemed to
experience limitless bliss and happiness.

They served the meal on a banana leaf. The

meal was sufficient in quantity. They thought the
ascetic was old and would not be able to eat much.
So, they served small quantity to start with. The
ascetic praised the meal and said, “It is very
delicious. I don‟t feel like leaving it.” The entire
preparation was served. The ascetic ate it all. The
Lord was thinking, “What a wonderful couple!
Blessed is their life. They are poor to the limit and
have no possessions whatsoever. They have fed me
all they had and are happy and content. He has
sacrificed the hair of his wife, a beautiful
possession of a lady without the least hesitation.
Who can compare with them in this wide world
today? Love and devotion have filled their heart.”
He said aloud, “I am very satisfied with the meal
you have offered Me. I am old and weak. Night has
gone long, so I cannot go anywhere. I will spend
the night here. I shall go in the morning after a
simple meal. Do not prepare too much, just a pot of
rice would do.” Bhagat Damodar bowed his head at
the feet of Sanyasi and thanked Him for the favour
He had done by staying the night. Both husband
Spiritual Bliss 39 August 2017

and wife served the ascetic till He fell asleep. The

ascetic, Whom even the heavens could not offer
such comfort and bliss, was enjoying with the
loveful service of this blissful couple.

Damodar told his wife, “How fortunate are

we! I shall go in the morning and bring alms. We
must offer a good meal to the ascetic and
something to carry. Don‟t worry. By the grace of
the Lord, I shall get good alms tomorrow. Lord
knows everything and He will come to our aid.”

The Lord, in the form of ascetic did know

everything. The Lord was touched and moved by
such heavenly love of the couple. He got up in the
midnight and found the couple in blissful sleep at
His Feet with tears of love adorning their faces.
The Lord placed His hand of grace on the head of
Damodar‟s wife and blessed, “O Mother! Let your
hair be restored more beautiful than before, let
diamonds, rubies and silken clothes adorn your
beautiful body.” The Lord then looked around and
commanded, “Let this hut be a palace and be filled
with all the riches of the world.” Having blessed
thus, the Lord departed.

Morning came. The wife woke up. She was

so much stunned. She found herself wrapped in
rich clothes. She was overwhelmed where had her
torn saree gone? She touched her head and found
Spiritual Bliss 40 August 2017

beautiful curly hair on it. How could so many

hairgrow within one night? She looked around.
There was a rich palace in place of their broken
hut. Now surprise was beyond description. She got
confused and woke up her husband, Damodar Das.
He was astonished too to see the transformation, a
miracle. He understood. The same thing had
happened to Bhagat Sudama. Now, they were
assured that it was not the ordinary ascetic, Whom
they served last night. It was the Lord Almighty
Himself. His wife said, “Go and find out the
ascetic. It is He, Who has done this miracle.”
Bhagat Damodar said, “How can one go and search
for the Lord, for, the ascetic was none other than
the Lord Himself. The Lord is within ourselves. He
is so gracious. He must bless us with His Holy
Vision here and now.” They were filled with love.
Tears flowed profusely from their eyes. They
prayed, “O Lord! We do not want these riches. We
were happy in our poverty. We seek nothing but
Your Holy Vision, devotion and love. Touch of
Your Lotus Feet transformed the stone into
beautiful Ahilya. Your Guru converted thrice the
crooked into a charming lady. We could not serve
You well. Forgive our faults. You are Grace
Incarnate. Bless us, O Lord, bless us!” They prayed
and cried and lied on the ground. How long could
the Lord stay away? He appeared. They again
prayed, “Lord! You have blessed these riches
which are insignificant. But, this also means that
Spiritual Bliss 41 August 2017

sometime or the other, we must have had subtle

desire embedded in our mind. Pray, forgive us. We
do not want these riches. It is only Your love we
seek.” The Lord responded, “I am pleased with
your devotion. Use these riches to serve the poor,
suffering and the Saints. Devotion will always
abide in your hearts. You will come unto Me after
your sojourn on earth.”

Damodar and his wife carried out the

command of the Lord. They prayed and sang the
glories of the Lord. Their devotion increase day by
day. They served the hungry, the poor, saints and
ascetics with love and devotion. They remained
poor among riches and eventually found their
heavenly abode at the Lotus Feet of the Lord.

REALM OF SILENCE

It is strange that man seeks happiness, joy,

peace and bliss in this tumultuous world full of
deafening noise and terrific noise pollution all
around. He does experience fleeting pleasures,
which leave a bitter taste in their trail. But man,
unaware of the true font of joy, peace and bliss,
carries on blindly in his worldly pursuits, which
leave him discontented all the more. Man has just
forgotten the vast treasure of true comfort, joy,
peace and bliss bountifully overflowing in the
realm of silence waiting to be discovered and the
ecstatic pleasure inherent in it. Saints demonstrate
the technique:

Duniyaa mein harr ek samt hai

Josh aur Kharosh; Iss josh-o-kharosh
Mein agar aye zee-hosh,
Chaahe aasoodagi tau aa meri maan;
Karr chashm bandd-o-gosh
Aur rah khaamosh. Bandd karo dwaar
Spiritual Bliss 43 August 2017

Dheemaa karo baahar kaa prakash,

Bandd karo yah shorr tabb dekho
Jalwaa mann kaa akaashl

All around in the world is enthusiasm

And noise for sure; In such a tumultuous
World, if you wish comfort and peace pure;
Close the door, shut out external light,
Stop this noise, perceive within
His Radiance Bright.

The realm of silence is so vast and

inestimable that it boggles imagination. It has no
boundaries, no frontiers. It is limitless with divine
riches abounding within. That is why, the Mystics,
who have traversed its vastness, say, “Silence is
God‟. It is in this realm of silence that an aspirant
can commune with the Lord, for, He speaks in the
realm of silence alone. When the consciousness
dives deep into the realm of silence, mind is free of
thoughts, feelings and emotions and absolutely
stilled. It is at that fortuitous moment that the Lord
become a Living Presence, vibrant and eloquent,
yet wordless and wonderful. It is then, aspirant, the
essence of the Lord, realizes that he is a part of
God and part of the universe.

Silence is within. It is eloquent, when mind

speaks not. Yet, internal silence is indeed difficult
Spiritual Bliss 44 August 2017

to achieve. Silence within stills the mind, since it

drives out desires, attachment and restlessness. It
purifies the mind, paving the way for the Lord to
illumine and adorn the mind. Silence vitalizes us,
infuses us with power. Silence is the best
tranquillizer that one can have in the world.

Silence has great Spiritual value. It is

vibrant. It is in the realm of silence that one‟s
intuition unfolds and one becomes the recipient of
vital energy. Silence transforms the aspirant into a
creator and this enhances one‟s true nature.

Peace dwells in silence, which stills the

tumult of mind. As a mystic has said:

Wherethere is faith, there is Love,

Where there is Love, there is peace;
Where there is Peace, there is God,
And where there is God,
One has no other need.

Thus, in the realm of silence, Lord, the Font

of Peace and Bliss abides in His all radiant form,
transfusing the entire realm with His luminous
presence.

Meditation is possible only in the realm of

silence within and without. A solitary place among
natural surroundings, where Lord manifests in His
Spiritual Bliss 45 August 2017

Beauteous Form in hills, springs, trees, art, flowers

with fragrance, is a living Divine Presence to
inspire and uplift the aspirant. It is in that
meditative silence that one communes with the
Lord, where His voice is audible to the soul.

The journey in the realm of silence is

fascinating and challenging. This journey does not
need the physical organs to forge ahead. Goswami
Tulsi Das Ji says:

Binu padd chalayee sunayee binu kaanaa,

Karr binu Karam karayee bidhi naanaa.
Aanan rahit sakal rass bhogi,
Binu baani bakataa barh joogi.
Tann binu paras nayan binu dekhaa,
Grahayee ghaan binu baasu aseshaa.
Asi sabb bhaanti alaukik karani,
Mahimaa jaasu jaayee naa barani.

Walking without legs, hearing without ears,

Working without hands and performing
Different chores. Without the mouth
Enjoying every type of pleasure,
Speaking without a speech,
Such is the one Yogi for sure.
Touching without the body,
Seeing without eyes,
And smelling without nostrils,
Spiritual Bliss 46 August 2017

Fragrance of different types,

Wonderful is this experience of such a Yogi,
Indestructible is the Glory of
Inner Realms, what a marvellous beauty!

It is in such a state that one perceives and

feels the Divine Presence and ecstatically enjoys
the communion with the Divine Lord.

Does it have a distinction? It is beyond

humans to encompass its import. Humans just do
not possess the power to undertake such a vast
journey on their own prowess. They need divine
guidance of the Divine Master, the omniscient one,
Who alone knows the intricacies of the journey in
the realm of silence, its pitfalls and how to avoid
them. If one completely surrenders unto the lotus
feet of the Divine Master and hands over the reins
of his life to Him, then, he can well enjoy the
journey as Buddha did. One must not be impatient
to reach the destination. Each step under the benign
guidance of Divine Master will prove an
accomplishment.

Divine Master bestows the Name as the

beacon light to enlighten the path one has to take in
the Realm of silence. Divine Master‟s True Name
would never allow the aspirant to flounder or divert
from the path. Saints exhort:
Spiritual Bliss 47 August 2017

Doha

Deepak Guru kaa vachan hai,

Le karr chale jo saath;
Jagat andheri kothari,
Kabahun naa bhatake paath.

Divine Master’s Word is the Light,

Keep it always with thee;
World steeped in darkness,
But falter will not he.

The Divine Master is Lord Incarnate.

Recitation of His Name transcends all darkness and
transports one to His Wisdom and Radiance. This
can be accomplished only in the realm of silence.
By diving deep into this realm, one can be blessed
with the symphony of the Divine Master‟s „Anahad
Shabad‟, a celestial music, nectar for the soul,
ecstasy of which cannot be computed, only
experienced by immersing in ineffable bliss. Saint
Brahmanand Ji beautifully expresses such an
experience:

Anhad ki dhun pyaari re Sadho,

Anhad ki dhun pyaari re (Tek)
Aasan padam lagaa karr kar se,
Moond kaan ki baari re.
Spiritual Bliss 48 August 2017

Sweet is the Anhad Music, O Dear,

Sweet is the Music Divine, so clear.
Sit in ‘Padamasan’, close the ears well,
Let your ‘Surt’ in sweet music dwell.
In the beginning, sound in mixed tones,
You hear, then, afterwards each note
So clear. Heard is Gong, Conch, flute
And Veena, so is drum, Mridang,
Thus say all the Seers. Day by day,
With progress in meditation, the
Entire body is enraptured in vibration.
One becomes oblivious of body,
Manifests Light within, Brahmanand says,
Spiritual Bliss 49 August 2017

He himself has experienced it within.

This celestial Music is the sustainer of the

entire Universe, the very life of all lives. It can be
experienced in the realm of silence under the subtle
benign guidance of the Holy Master. It is a vivid
manifestation of „Surat-Shabad-Yoga‟, the Spiritual
fruition of human life. The ecstasy flowing from it,
is unparalleled in the world. The very source of joy,
happiness and bliss, ever enjoyed by a living being
on this earth, is this celestial music, a divine
symphony.

Recitation of the True Name within

transcends all barriers and transports the aspirant to
a world of its own, oblivious of his body, environs,
surroundings and happenings around him,
bestowing upon him ineffable peace, joy and bliss.
The tale of a Mahatma Ji would illustrate this
aspect well.

A Mahatma Ji was returning to his residence

in the evening after his usual spiritual discourse in
a few villages. He had to cross a forest before
reaching his residence. Suddenly, hell broke loose.
Clouds thundered, lightning flashed, hail-storm
lashed and there was heavy down-pour. Light
vanished. It was just not possible to continue with
his journey home. Mahatma Ji sighted a cottage
Spiritual Bliss 50 August 2017

with a flickering light inside. He went that way and

entered the cottage. What a disgusting scene
awaited him! Four or five forest-dwellers were
slaughtering their hunt. The air inside was saturated
with foul odour. It was not possible to even breathe
there. He decided to retrace his steps. But the
raging storm, lashing rain, a blinding darkness
forced him back into the cottage. Then he
remembered his Holy Master‟s True Name, the
panacea of all ills in all the situations.

He sat down in a corner. No one had noticed

him. He dived deep into the realm of silence
within, with True Name on his lips.Very soon, he
became oblivious of his body, his disgustful
surroundings, the foul odour and the dirty hunters.
He had immersed in the symphony of Anahad
Shabad, his soul soared high and ascended
spiritually. An ineffable radiance illumined his
countenance and he felt completely suffused in its
divine light. The night passed, the day dawned and
the soft warm rays of the Sun played on his face.
His consciousness descended to the earthy plane.
He paid obeisance to his True Master and got up to
set out for his residence.

Therein lies the beauty and fragrance of

diving deep into the realm of silence and
experiencing the divine presence. It is in this realm
that one meets the Lord and attains spiritual
Spiritual Bliss 51 August 2017

fruition of his life. This is accomplished by the

grace of the Divine Master, Whose boon of the
True Name lifts us out of the mire of the world
created by the Mind and inspires us to dive deep
into the realm of silence within and without to reap
a rich spiritual harvest and attain spiritual realms of
divinity.

The experience of celestial symphony and

spiritual elation that one can attain in the realm of
silence is inexpressible in words. What a realized
saint once said, can partly explain this ineffable
bliss. The saint says, “In the depths of our being, in
the silence of contemplation, a luminous radiance
floods our consciousness dispelling all darkness of
ignorance, all worldly desires, transcending the
frontiers of body, mind, senses and intellect and
leads us to the divine goal of union with the Lord,
the sole aim of this fortuitous human birth and the
font of all joys, peace and bliss.”

FORGIVENESS

Man is an infallible part of God Almighty.

He has come on this earth with all the attributes of
God. Among these, the quality of forgiveness is the
most important one. All the God-loving persons,
who adorn this earth, have these qualities of
forgiveness, kindness, generosity etc. That is why,
it is said „Where there is forgiveness, there is Lord
Himself‟. These are the true sayings of the Great
Ones over the ages. The heart, where the beautiful
flower of forgiveness blossoms, is the abode of the
Almighty Lord.

The enemies of the human being i.e. lust,

anger, greed, attachment and ego are invincible
until they are attacked by a person having a sword
of forgiveness in his hand. If some enemy has to be
encountered, either he should be attacked with full
force and defeated, alternatively, with the shield of
forgiveness, its attack must be blunted. If we accept
the challenge of our opponents, the enmity is bound
to increase on both sides, while no one can pre-
determine victory or defeat. But, the spirit of
revenge will certainly grow. The other way is that
Spiritual Bliss 53 August 2017

of forgiveness. A forgiving person despite having

the capacity to face, tolerates the attack of the
enemy patiently. People may call such a person
coward, but he is, in fact, courageous and brave
and is bound to come out victorious in the end.
Because he neither wants to destroy nor defeat
anybody. Forgiveness and forbearance are the
attributes of God. It is only He, Who graces the
heart and inspires from within not to allow the
theory „Tit for tat‟, for, that can intensify the force
of enmity at any time. In the Vidur Neeti, Mahatma
Vidur Ji writes, “Forgiveness is the ornament of the
Brave ones.”

There is a story in the ancient history. To test

the endurance and compassion of Lord Vishnu,
Maharishi Bhrigu hit Him in the chest with his leg.
At this, Lord Vishnu caught Maharishi‟s feet and
said humbly, “O Great Saint! I hope your delicate
lotus feet did not get hurt because of My rock-like
chest.”

Kshamaa barhan ko hott haai,

Chhotan ko utpaat;
Vishnu ko kyaa ghati gayo,
Jo Bhrigu maari laat.
The Great ought to forgive,
When others misbehave;
What did Vishnu lose,
With the blow that Bhrigu gave.
Spiritual Bliss 54 August 2017

Great Saint Eknath Ji was returning after

taking bath in river Godavari. There an evil person
standing on the way, spat on him without any
reason. Saint Eknath took his bath again, but he
found the same man in his path. That man again
spat on him. Saint Eknath again returned to the
river for bath. Yet, the bad character spat on the
Saint again and again. Each time, without demur,
Saint Eknath went back to the river to have his
bath, forgiving the act of that person generously.
When the Saint was returning after a hundred and
one baths, the same man was still standing there.
Now, he felt ashamed. The Saint‟s tolerance and
forgiveness changed his life completely. He fell
down at the feet of the Saint and begged pardon for
all his sins. The compassionate and forgiving Saint
said, “What is your fault? You have rather done me
a favour. Prior to this, I used to take bath only
once. Today, you have helped me to get the merit
of a hundred and one baths in the sacred river.”

Such incidents of forgiveness can please

God, Who has the virtues of forgiveness,
compassion and truthfulness etc. When God
Himself is Forgiveness Incarnate, why would He
(Divine Master) not be the forgiver?

Saints, who are the Incarnations of the Lord

on earth, themselves are the true manifestation of
forgiveness. His Holiness, the Third Master of Shri
Spiritual Bliss 55 August 2017

Paramhans Advait Mat, used to say, “In the factory

of Nature, there are two things - Fury and Mercy.”
In the court of the Almighty God, the account for
each little act is maintained. Man cannot escape
from the fury of Nature. No recommendation
works there. The cleverness is not of any avail.
But, in the physical form of the Lord, Saints have
come to bestow mercy and kindness. They have
come to shower forgiveness to the truly repentant.
Inspite of so many demerits, still there is nothing to
worry. By just recitation of the pure pious Name of
God, all the sins get washed away. Lord Krishna
asserts:

Jaan ko qurbaan kartaa

Haai jo Merre Naam parr
Nek haai badkaar bhi,
Milataa haai neeyat kaa samar.

If one, who is a great evil doer,

With unflinching mind
Performs My prayer; he must be
Reckoned as truly honest, since
He has resolved rightly for the best.

(Gita IX/30)

This implies that if a sinner starts worship of

Lord in right earnest, he gets purified and becomes
virtuous; because he has adopted the path of
Spiritual Bliss 56 August 2017

righteousness. He has nurtured the faith that there

is no alternative except meditation. When he
achieves such faith, take it for granted that he has
come in Lord‟s vicinity.

Forgiveness is a very high stage of Love.

Where there is forgiveness, the difference between
You and I, Yours and Mine, big and small get
dissolved. Great Saint Shri Kabir Sahib Ji
explains the importance of forgiveness thus:

Tarass samm durjan bachan,

Rahe Sant Jann taar;
Bijuri parhe samudra mein,
Kahaan sakegi jaar.

Evil person’s words sharp like an arrow,

When come in contact with Saints;
Turn into flower, however, if lightning
Were to strike an ocean calm,
What can possibly do it any harm.

When an individual makes forgiveness a

habit, he can easily have vision of the Lord.
Without adoption of forgiveness, nobody can reach
his destination, howsoever knowledgeable he may
be.
In forgiveness, there is no feeling of revenge.
That gives peace to the defaulter as well.
Spiritual Bliss 57 August 2017

When Lord Christ was crucified on the cross,

He prayed to God, “O My father in heaven! Please
forgive these people, for, they don‟t know what
they are doing.”

So, the Great Ones inspire the devotees to

develop in them the virtues of tolerance and
forgiveness like the earth. The earth supports even
those people, who dig it with pick axes and other
implements. Similarly, you also tolerate everything
from your enemies, it is bravery. Those people,
who believe in revenge, are not respected by
others, but those, who pardon their opponents,
become immortal.

We must also learn from the inspiring lives

of such Saints and their divine virtues of
forgiveness, forbearance and kindness, so that we
may also nurture these qualities in our being to earn
the pleasure of the Lord, which is the „Mantra‟ for
achieving real bliss, self-realization and attainment
of the Vision of the Lord, Shri Sadguru Dev Ji.

IMMORTAL PREACHINGS
DEVOTION - FONT OF HAPPINESS

True Ones enlighten us:

Doha

Ek taraf Bhagwaan haain,

Doojaain Maya jaan;
Sansaari Maya chahaain,
Bhakt chahaain Bhagwaan.

On one side is the Lord,

On the other, Worldly Creation in line;
Worldly crave for the World,
Devotees yearn for Lord Divine.

Two powers are at play in this world. While

worldly objects bring restlessness, worries and pain
in their stride,Lord‟s devotion is a font of joy and
bliss. So, why should there be such a large number
of loved ones forworldly objects? The reason is that
Spiritual Bliss 59 August 2017

the worldly objects have an unusual attraction and

glitter. In the beginning, a personfeels extremely
happy on acquiring the worldly objects, but, these
are always followed by discomfort and are devoid
of joy. Despite this fact, the manis attracted
towards worldly objects, because of its apparent
enchanting form. Secondly, when one is able to
attain a thing without much effort, at a small price
and in a short time, its attraction enhances and
there would be many who would opt for it. On the
other hand, if something can be gained through
intense hard work, at a great price and in too long a
time, naturally, there would be a few in number
who would yearn for it.

Another point is that worldly objects are so

easily attainable, while devotion and its attendant
virtues cannot be gained without noble tendencies
inherited by virtue of righteous deeds in past births.
It is the merit of previous births that makes a man
worthy of the jewel of devotion of the Lord.

It is a law of nature from the beginning of

creation that world objects inhere woes and
miseries while devotion is a font of bliss, joy and
comforts. Again, until the noble tendencies
developed in past births manifest in one‟s life, the
aspirant cannot gain the merit of the Lord‟s
devotion.
Spiritual Bliss 60 August 2017

But, a devotee, whose life is adorned with

noble tendencies and who basks in the sunshine of
the holy company of saints, is able to attain the
jewel ofdevotion without much effort by the grace
of the True Ones. His life, thus, becomes a saga of
joy and bliss here and hereafter. A wise and
introspective aspirant would always choose the
path of devotion and shun the snare of the worldly
creation despite its apparent magnetic pull.

Those, who have noble tendencies abiding in

them and nurture a firm resolve to attain devotion,
Nature also provides such circumstances, which are
conducive to its attainment. They get blessed with
the holy company of saints and means of devotion
and then, they tread the path of devotion under the
benign guidance of the True Ones to achieve the
true aim of this life. On the other hand, those, who
are not fortunate enough to inherit noble devotional
tendencies, indulge in the mad run-around of the
worldly creation, with the result that they reap a
crop of miseries and lose a golden opportunity of
earning the bliss and joy for the life hereafter.

There are a rare few, who get blessed with

the comfortable means of treading the path of
devotion and ennobling their life. Such aspirants
are bestowed with the sacred company of true
saints and the means of devotion in this spiritual
institution, where all activities are centered on
Spiritual Bliss 61 August 2017

attainment of the jewel of devotion. Thus, life of

those aspirants, who seek the protection of Divine
Master becomes fortuitous and they become
worthy of the attainment of devotion of the Lord.

But common worldly people are unable to

comprehend the import of this truth; because their
intellect is trapped in worldly creation, Mind,
sensual pleasures and physical comforts. Their
entire thought-process is limited to make efforts to
gain worldly objects. That is why, such people are
seen to be drowned in pursuit of honour, status and
property. They regard these as the aim of life and
source of happiness. They are quite oblivious of the
fact that worldly objects will ultimately unleash
woes and miseries sooner or later.

Just ponder over this. There may be one,

who has wealth, status and honour. He wields great
authority. He has all the means of comfortable life.
He is considered a great man in society. You would
think that he is indeed a respectable wealthy and
happy man. But, just ask him, if he abides joy, bliss
and peace in his heart?

You are aware of what would be the answer.

He will surely say, “I am not so fortunate to be
happy, comfortable or at peace. In fact, there will
be hardly one, who is as miserable as I am. I am
Spiritual Bliss 62 August 2017

indeed drowned in miseries. I am an unfortunate

man in the whole world.

You will get astonished at the reply you ask

for. How can he be in miserable state of mind with
all the wealth, status, honour and the means of
comfortable life at his command?

The reason for miserable state of his mind is

that worldly objects and their accomplishment have
misery and pain inherent in them, which are bound
to manifest with the passage of time. That is why,
saints have enlightened that the worldly creation is
a source of miseries, woes and restlessness and that
devotion alone is comfort and joy-giving.

Rare aspirants, who nurture yearning for

devotion and are blessed with the company of the
saints, do not fall a victim to the snare of the
worldly creation, objects and pleasures. They do
not regard such things as a boon or a lucky break.
They only use these for the sustenance of life and
do not get attached to these. Because, they are fully
conscious that these are the root-cause of worries
and pain if they abide them in their heart.

When a man gets worldly possessions,

doesn‟t he get loaded with worries too? If
restlessness and miseries accompany worldly
objects, how can then one be regarded as fortunate?
Spiritual Bliss 63 August 2017

Can a man drowned in worries and miseries day

and night ever be called a man of good luck?

The truth is that none can breathe in peace

on possessing worldly things. He can never derive
true comfort and peace from such things. On the
other hand, he has to reap the fruit of worldly
indulgence in the form of miserable life hereafter.
This is a colossal loss!

Despite all this, common man is caught in

the snare of worldly creation and craves to attain
more and more. How can one be protected against
the worldly delusion? It is only those wise
aspirants, who seek the company of the true ones
and are blessed with the light of spiritual
knowledge. Treading the true path of devotion in
the radiance of this light, they get saved from the
trap of illusion of the world. They may reside
anywhere, in their own country or abroad, but since
they are hued in the colour of devotion, they get
blessed with true comfort, joy, bliss and peace.
They earn the merit of the True Name and
devotion, the font of happiness and peace here and
hereafter.

It is certainly true that whosoever cherishes

and yearns for devotion, actually he harbours no
desire for worldly things. Because he has been
blessed with the real source of comfort and Joy i.e.
Spiritual Bliss 64 August 2017

devotion of the Lord. Why should he ever crave for

worldly objects? Great Ones have denoted:

Doha

Jo jann rookhe vishay rass,

Chikane Ram sneh,
Te jann priye Ram ko,
Kaanan basein ki geh.

Saints say that those, who neither crave for

worldly objects nor indulge in sensuousness,
harbour love for the Lotus Feet of the Lord and get
hued in the colour of devotion by His grace, their
heart is filled with comfort and joy-giving devotion
of the Lord.

It becomes natural for the aspirants to

harbour love for the Divine Master‟s spiritual
institution. They should cherish no other thing, nor
do they attach importance to worldly objects in
their life. They are the dear ones of the Lord. Such
aspirants may reside anywhere in the world. Really,
they also are not devoid of worldly objects. In fact,
worldly objects now become their slave, as they are
the loved ones of the Lord.

If we ponder over this, we shall realize that

human birth has been bestowed only for this
purpose. Such an invaluable boon should not be
Spiritual Bliss 65 August 2017

wasted in false pursuits. Therefore, one should be

conscious of the valuable time of life in treading
the path of devotion.

Ignorant persons waste such an invaluable

human life in worldly affairs. That is why, saints
warn aspirants that human birth is rare and very
precious and must be devoted to the very purpose,
for which it has been bestowed. It is not for
accumulating the worldly objects. This has been
blessed only to earn the merit of devotion, spiritual
upliftment and meet the Supreme Lord.

There are, however, no means in the false

world for spiritual upliftment and devotion of the
Lord or meeting the Beloved. But, in the true court
of the Perfect Master, the means to earn the wealth
of devotion have been made available to the
aspirants, who can mould their life by observing
the spiritual disciplines and treading the path of
devotion under the benign guidance of the Divine
Master.

Aspirants are, therefore, fortunate indeed to

be blessed with such a fortuitous opportunity and
means of devotion. By this, they can drive away all
the miseries and ignoble traits inherited from
previous births by inculcating the tenets of
devotion in their life by the grace of the Holy
Master and by observing the disciplines of
Spiritual Bliss 66 August 2017

recitation, meditation, company of saints, selfless

service and prayers unto the Holy Master. Earnest
observation of these disciplines will transform the
life of the aspirants and spiritually uplift them to
reap the reward of meeting with the Lord.

Therefore, the valuable time of the aspirants

must be beneficently used to remain immersed in
the practice of spiritual disciplines, so that the mind
and worldly attractions may never get a chance to
delude the aspirants.

Thus, it is the ordained duty of aspirants that

the golden opportunity of human birth should be
fully utilized in accordance with the preaching and
behests of the Master to earn the merit of devotion
to enrich their life spiritually, so that they may
achieve the goal of human birth and thus abide in
bliss and joy here and hereafter.
