CHILDLINE ZIMBABWE AND CIMAS PARTNERSHIP CONCEPT
Childline Zimbabwe is a child protection based organization registered as Private Voluntary
Organization (PVO 7/2001) that provides therapeutic and psychosocial support services to
children regardless of their socio-economic status or geographic location.
Its mission is to champion, defend and promote the rights of children in Zimbabwe through the
provision of safe, confidential and child friendly reporting mechanisms centered on a free 24
hour counseling service.

Among the many children’s rights is the RIGHT TO HEALTH as Childline we are proposing
a partnership with CIMAS under this theme. This is informed by the them for this year’s Day
of the African Child, which is “Leave No Child Behind for Africa’s Development.” This
year’s DAC theme builds on the momentum created by the DAC 2017 theme “The 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development for Children in Africa: Accelerating Protection,
Empowerment and Equal Opportunity.” It does so by emphasising the need to mainstream
children’s rights in all (Agenda 2030) developmental programmes implemented by Member
States. The United Nations (UN) Member States adopted, at the UN Sustainable
Development Summit on September 25, 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As such we will be focusing on SDG 3 and SDG16.2.

SDG3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
SDG 16.2: End abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence and torture against
children

Objectives of the partnership

 To show the relationship between Children’s Health and Child Welfare

 To increase awareness on children’s health within child rights
 To increase brand visibility for Cimas’s children’s and family packages

Childline is proposing partnership under the following:

 Children’s Corner in every CIMAS clinic; this is to create a child friendly environment for the
children, this corner will be having Toys, Posters with Health tips for Children and our
Childline posters with the 116 number.
 Emergency Medical Voucher for Vulnerable Children; when responding to various cases of
violence against children and abuse, Childline comes across cases that need emergency
medical assistance and most of the times there will be no resources to assist. CIMAS can
assist in providing monthly medical vouchers of a certain amount, which can only be issued
out in emergencies to give access to medical assistance in CIMAS Clinics.
 Child safeguarding policy and training for CIMAS Staff; this policy and training will be given
to CIMAS staff by Childline, it will build the capacity of staff members on handling children
who access CIMAS services and in the event of reports of alleged abuse there will policies in
place to safeguard the organization.
 Children’s Health Awareness Month;
On the 16th of June it is day of the African Child. Childline is proposing that June be a Child Health
Month. This will involve a campaign on health issues that affect children. The campaign will run
through Social Media, Radio, Print (Newspapers) and IEC material. Generating discussions around
topics such as,

 Preventing and treating ill-ness
 (hygiene, sleeping and eating habits
 Violence against children (sexual and physical),
 Mental Health (depression, stress, suicide),
- General Health and Wellness),
- Access to Health for children and young people.
How will the campaign run:
 Programmes and newspaper articles can be organised according to these topics,
following the chronology of child development. In each programme Childline experts
will speak to the welfare of children at a certain age and then Cimas will follow with
packages that can cover such concerns. Cimas can also share particular practitioners
that are registered under if any.
 Preparation of weekly press releases for print media- can pay for space in the weekend.
Selected topics can also be included in the newspaper based on the agreed list of topics
for the whole campaign.
 Preparation for radio programme content and giveaways for children who participate.
(propose to use a radio children’s show paying for about 15 minis each week for 4 weeks
focusing on Violence against children (sexual and physical), Mental Health (depression,
stress, suicide), General Health and Wellness (hygiene, sleeping and eating habits),
Access to Health for children and young people)

we will invite child protection players so that they identify their role in children’s health

As part of the CIMAS CSR strategy we intended to part with Childline Zimbabwe

Preamble

Most Corporate social responsibility activities may be presented with much noise and fanfare, but
usually offer minimal benefits to either business or society or can make both sides feel good but that
generate limited and often one-sided benefits. With philanthropy, for example, corporate donations
confer most of benefits on society (with potential but often questionable reputational benefits to the
business). Similarly, in what’s best referred to as propaganda, CSR activities are focused primarily on
building a company’s reputation with little real benefit to society. Some cynics suggest that this form
of CSR is at best a form of advertising—and potentially dangerous if it exposes a gap between the
company’s words and actions.

None of these approaches realise the opportunities for significant shared value creation that can been
achieved through smart partnering. In such ventures, the focus of the business moves beyond
enhancing reputation but towards improving its core value creation ability by addressing major
strategic issues or challenges. For society, the focus shifts from maintaining minimum standards or
seeking funding to improving the overall quality of life and living standards. The key is for each party
to tap into the resources and expertise of the other, finding creative solutions to critical social and
businesses challenges.

CIMAS has been offered an opportunity to have a smart partnership by Childline Zimbabwe.
