Joscha Weihnachten - Tutorial w 4.

He was and engineer student and his presentation was about LED lights.

He was talking about photons, which is an elementary particle, which you can find in these
lights. Photons are always in motion and in vacuum. It has a constant speed of light to all
observers. The photon concept has led to advances in experimental and theoretical physics,
such as lasers, condensation and quantum field theory.

He also mentioned electroluminescence. It is working as the same principle as solars, and is

usually used in the cockpits of the aeroplanes.

He was supporting the Organic LED- with organic materials because it is better for the
environment. A recently developed organic light emitting diode has the potential to produce
the same quality of with light as incandescent bulbs but with power efficiencies considerably
better than even fluorescent lighting.

She was studying business and her presentation was about marketing. She used examples to
show the differences between marketing strategies.

She used Coles and Woolworths, which are the main grocery suppliers on the Australian
market, to show differences between how similar companies promotes their products and how
they build their brands. She asked: What comes to your mind when you think of the two
supermarkets?

She answered the question that Coles is red and Woolworths is green, and she showed their
different strategies by showing their tv-commercials. They are each others largest competitors
and they are always in a constant fight to improve their marketing strategies to gain costumer
share.

She also showed marketing theories from famous professors like Michel Porters and his five
forces, which is one of the most famous model in strategy research.

Yuchen Wu- Tutorial w 6.

The topic he was presenting was about airline safety. The first thing he mentioned was
reasons why airplanes crash. There are human factors, which could be one of the reasons- like
if the pilot is doing something wrong or causes something that can lead to the plane crashing,
but also plane mechanics can be a reason.

Another thing is the weather condition or bird strikes. Also the plane it self can be the reason
why planes crashing, this can include structure problems, control system failure or that the
landing gear is broken. There also can be terrorists hijacking the plane.

He also talked about the effects of an airplane crashing which can be financial problems for
the airline. Also psychological problems for the people affected, and even deaths caused by
the crashes.

Though he adds plane crashes are very unusual. Is more common that people dies in car
accidents.

Patricia Belinelo- Tutorial w 7.

The subject she was talking about was depression, which is a mental disorder. She explained
the differences between sadness and depression.

Sadness is what we usually fell if something bad happens, and the feeling will disappear after
a while. Depression on the other hand it’s a disorder, and it doesn’t have to be a reason for it.

One of seven Australians will have or experience depression at some point in there life.
Researchers don’t know the reason of depression, but it is more common to get this if
someone in your family or relative to you has it.

Symptoms of depression can be different for different persons, but usually a person that
experience depression feel sadness, hopelessness, lack of energy and loss of motivation.

To cure depression they use therapy, which can be cognitive, family, group or individual
therapy. They can also cure depression with medication.

She ended with a quotation: You would never say “ its just cancer, get over it”.

Songyi Wu- Tutorial w 9.

Her topic was trust. A definition of trust can be reliance on another person or entity. Though
there are different ways to define trust. In sociology and psychology they define trust
different.

She showed a picture of a person deliberately falling down and people trying to catch this
person. You need trust to be able to do that.

She showed statistics about how much trust people have in other people, and this statistics
shows us that we have low trust in others.

Phenomenon- She told us a story about a famous case in China where this lady where getting
off the train and she fell. Someone was there to help her get up. In court the lady said this

person pushed her and that’s why she fell. After this verdict people in China are afraid to help
others.

Then she asked the question: Why doesn’t people trust each other? Some of the answers are
because of law, policy and ethics.
