CD-ROM Installation Instructions

The Grammar in Use Intermediate program can be run directly from the CD-ROM
and does not require installation. However, we recommend that you install the
program and run it from your computer’s hard drive. This will make the program
run more smoothly.

Windows

To install the program on your computer (recommended):

1. Make sure you are allowed to install software on your computer. If you are
using a school computer, talk to the system administrator first.

2. Make sure that the CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive. If the program is
already running, close it first.

3. Double-click on “My Computer” to display all the files and folders.

4. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive. Choose “Explore.”

5. Double-click on the file “Install Grammar in Use Intermediate to hard


drive.exe.”

6. Follow the instructions on your screen.

To run the program from the CD-ROM:

1. When you insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, the program should
start automatically.

2. If the program doesn’t start automatically, double-click on “My Computer”


to display all the files and folders.

3. Right-click on your CD-ROM drive. Choose “Explore.”

4. Double-click on the file “Run Grammar in Use Intermediate from CD.exe.”

Mac OS X

To install the program on your computer (recommended):

1. Make sure you are allowed to install software on your computer. If you are
using a school computer, talk to the system administrator first.

2. Double-click on the CD-ROM icon on your desktop to display all the files and
folders. Navigate through to the “files > program files > Cambridge >
Grammar in Use Intermediate” directory.

3. Copy that entire “Grammar in Use Intermediate” directory onto a


suitable location on your hard drive.
4. In the newly copied folder, double-click on the “Grammar in Use
Intermediate Mac OS X” icon.

To run the program from the CD-ROM:

1. Make sure that the CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive.

2. Double-click on the CD-ROM icon on your desktop to display all the files and
folders.

3. Double-click on the “Grammar in Use Intermediate Mac OS X” icon. Note


that there may be a pause before the program launches.

• Windows XP or Vista
• 1 GHz Intel/AMD CPU
• 256MB RAM or better
• Resolution at least 1024 x 768 pixels
• Microphone
• Internet connection (for accessing Cambridge Dictionaries Online)

Mac

• Mac OS X 10.4+
• 500MHz G3/1GHz Core Solo
• 256MB RAM or better
• Resolution at least 1024 x 768 pixels
• Microphone
• Internet connection (for accessing Cambridge Dictionaries Online)

KNOWN ISSUE

Mac users may see a popup asking, "Do you want the application 'Grammar in Use
Intermediate.app' to accept incoming network connections?" with options to select
"Deny" or "Allow." The user may select either "Deny" or "Allow" to continue, and the
application will work normally.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE

This is a legal agreement between you (“the customer”) and Cambridge University
Press (“the publisher”) for Grammar in Use Intermediate, Third Edition, CD-ROM.

1. Limited license
(a) You are purchasing only the right to use the CD-ROM and are acquiring no
rights, express or implied, to the software itself, or the enclosed copy, other than
those rights granted in this limited license for educational use only.
(b) The publisher grants you the license to use one copy of this CD-ROM on your
site and to install and use the software on this CD-ROM on a single computer. You
may not install the software on this CD-ROM on a single secure network server for
access from one site.
(c) You shall not: (i) copy or authorize copying of the CD-ROM, (ii) translate the CD-
ROM, (iii) reverse-engineer, alter, adapt, disassemble, or decompile the CD-ROM,
(iv) transfer, sell, lease, lend, profit from, assign, or otherwise convey all or any
portion of the CD-ROM, or (v) operate the CD-ROM from a mainframe system.

2. Copyright
All titles and material contained within the CD-ROM are protected by copyright and
all other applicable intellectual property laws and international treaties.
Therefore, you may not copy the CD-ROM. You may not alter, remove, or destroy
any copyright notice or other material placed on or with this CD-ROM.

3. Liability
The CD-ROM is supplied “as-is” with no express guarantee as to its suitability. To
the extent permitted by applicable law, the publisher is not liable for costs of
procurement of substitute products, damages, or losses of any kind whatsoever
resulting from the use of this product, or errors or faults in the CD-ROM, and in
every case the publisher’s liability shall be limited to the suggested list price or the
amount actually paid by the customer for the product, whichever is lower.

4. Termination
Without prejudice to any other rights, the publisher may terminate this license if
you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of the license. In such event, you
must destroy all copies of the CD-ROM.

5. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of England, without regard to its conflict of
laws provision, and each party irrevocably submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of
the courts of England. The parties disclaim the application of the United Nations
Convention on the International Sale of Goods.
