ABSTRACT

Tomato had been studied for so many years. This study shows if intercropping of
tomato and a species which has a symbiotical relationship to it will be effective in terms of
height, number of leaves, and root length of the tomato plant. This study is an experimental
research, in order to interpret the data, statistical analysis was used. The result shows that
in tomato-tomato sample, the number of leaves of tomato was higher than other tomato
plant having a companion with a symbiotical relationship to it having a mean of 12.6 ±
1.85 than the two other treatments. Which had a significant difference between the
treatment’s number of leaves because of the result P<0.05 where P=0.00. The second
parameter shows that tomato-tomato companionship of plant acquired the highest mean of
height and had a mean of 12.3cm ± 1.75 and through statistical data analysis, there was a
significant difference between the treatment’s average height because of the result P<0.05
where P=0.00. The last parameter shows that tomato-string beans companionship of plants
had the highest average of root length which had an average of 3.35cm ± 0.67 and through
statistical data analysis, it was determined that there was no significant difference between
the treatment’s average height because of the result P>0.05 where P=0.808.
Keywords: Tomato, Intercropping, Polyculture, Monoculture.
