Movie industry

American film industry is commonly referred to as “Hollywood” because of its famous symbol
situated upon the hills. It has become a widely accepted representation of American movie
studios and movie stars.

-filmmakers moved there to avoid fees imposed by Thomas Edison who owned patents for the
movie-making process

homage to the history of film and developed upon existing genres and techniques

-blockbusters - emphasize spectacle, star power and high production value, all of which entail an
enormous budget

-independent films - high professional quality in terms of acting, directing, screenwriting and
other elements associated with production; focused on creativity and innovation

Movie awards:

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are a set of 24 awards for artistic and technical
merit in the American film industry, given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences (AMPAS), to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements as assessed by the
Academy's voting membership. Ceremony takes place at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles,
California.

Golden Globe Awards are accolades bestowed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign
Press Association beginning in January 1944, recognizing excellence in film and television, both
domestic and foreign. Place: The Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California

The Golden Raspberry Awards (also known in short terms as Razzies and Razzie Awards) is a
mock award in recognition of the worst in film.

An Emmy Award, or simply Emmy, is an American award that recognizes excellence in the
television industry

Because Emmys are given in various sectors of the American television industry, they are
presented in different annual ceremonies held throughout the year. The two events that receive
the most media coverage are the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Daytime Emmy Awards,
which recognize outstanding work in American primetime and daytime entertainment
programming, respectively.

Tony Award

The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, more commonly known as the
Tony Award, recognizes excellence in live Broadway theatre.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,600 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars
embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine
Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in
the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors,
producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others.
