 1. The dragon
Identity of the dragon
There has been much confusion in identifying the dragon. The
view of some is that the idea that the dragon represents Spiritism
cannot be upheld from Scripture. This interpretation is based on a
misunderstanding of an isolated statement in the book The Great
Controversy.1
The dragon is first introduced in Revelation Chapter 12, where
in verses 3 and 4 a woman is pictured, representing the Church of
God. This woman is described as giving birth to a man child - Jesus.
A great red dragon stands before the woman waiting to devour her
child as soon as it is born. Primarily the dragon here is Satan.
…that old serpent called the devil and Satan. Revelation 12:9
Some have held that the dragon primarily represents paganism, but
this view cannot be sustained either. History tells us that the power
used by Satan to try and destroy Jesus at his birth was Imperial
Rome under the Caesars. It was Herod the Great, king of Judea, the
Roman governor, who endeavored to destroy the Christ child.
This resulted in the killing of the babes of Bethlehem
(Matthew 2:16). However as one author correctly comments:
While the dragon primarily represents Satan, it is, in a secondary
sense, a symbol of pagan Rome.2

 The dragon, or serpent power, of Revelation Chapter 12,
continues down through the Christian era to the last days. It must
therefore symbolise more than just pagan Rome.
In prophecy a beast represents a political power (Daniel 7:17), so
the Dragon (a type of beast) must represent political powers that
are used by Satan to oppose the cause of God.
Satan always works through earthly agencies such as political
powers, religious organizations, secret societies and the like. He
used political powers to oppose God‘s people after the fall of pagan
Rome. Rome‘s territory was occupied by the Gothic barbarians who
formed themselves into the ten kingdoms of Western Europe. At
various times, most of these European political powers were
effective agents of Satan in opposing God‘s people.

 2. The beast
First we will examine the central power symbolised by the
beast. We will discover this organization is the earthly leader at the
time of Armageddon. The beast is fully described in Revelation
13:1-10 and is clearly identified as the Papacy.2 This means that
the spirits of devils will have taken possession of the Papacy and
will speak and work through this agency to influence the rest of the
world to unite against God and His people.
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that for a
considerable period of time, the powers of Spiritism have resided
within the Papacy.
Not only does the Roman Catholic Church hold festivals to
honour the departed spirits of loved ones, but it claims to have
within the church, members who claim to receive messages from
the dead. Instead of calling this practice of the occult, necromancy,
the Roman Catholic Church calls it mysticism. And instead of calling
the people who perform this abomination mediums, they are called
„mystics‟.3
Roman Catholicism is renowned for its supposed miracles and
for purported communications from departed saints. And it is true
that some of the miracles the Church claims are inexplicable from a
human point of view. The miracles at Lourdes, that great Catholic
centre of Mariolatry, testify to a supernatural power as even
impartial, non-religious doctors have affirmed that these miracles
occur.

 Lourdes is impressive. Anyone who is unaware of the
warnings of Scripture in regard to the deceptive and alluring
influence of evil spirits would be readily convinced that the
power of ―God‖ is present there. These miracles confirm in the
minds of Catholics that God is blessing the Catholic Church while
also convincing many Protestants similarly.
The miracles in the Church of Rome declare to the
unsuspecting world that God is blessing the Catholic Church.
Further evidence that Spiritism is in the Catholic Church is the
presence of the so-called gift of tongues. It has been indisputably
proven that tongue-speaking is a counterfeit of
the true gift. It is the manifestation of evil spirits impersonating the
Holy Spirit. Millions of Catholics and non-Catholics are bewitched by
this phenomenon.
Further evidence that the Papacy is under the influence of
Spiritism is the revelation that the Pope is the high priest of
witchcraft. Witchcraft originated in ancient Babylon and is deeply
satanic. The evidence of this is the use of the crooked crucifix by
popes. This is the insignia of witchcraft.
Let it be clearly understood that, while Scripture exposes the
Catholic system, it also reveals that many of God‘s true people are
in the Church of Rome and that God will ultimately call them out.
…Come out of her my people... Revelation 18:4
Although it is obvious that the Church of Rome is under the
influence of occult powers, this is evidenced in such a way as to
deceive the unwary.4

 3. Thinking to
change times
and laws
Let us briefly have a look at attributes of antichrist
power.
1. The ―little horn‖ or kingdom ―came up among them‖—the 10
horns which were the kingdoms of Western Europe (Daniel
7:8). So it would be a little kingdom somewhere in Western
Europe.

2. It would have a man at its head who could speak for it (Daniel
7:8).

3. It would pluck up or uproot three kingdoms (Daniel 7:8).

4. It would be ―diverse‖ or different from the other 10 kingdoms

(Daniel 7:24).

5. It would make war with and ―wear out‖ or persecute the

saints (Daniel 7:21, 25).

6. It would emerge from the pagan Roman empire—the fourth

world kingdom (Daniel 7:7, 8).

7. God‘s people (the saints) would ―be given into his hand‖ for ―a
time and times and the dividing of time‖ (Daniel 7:25).

 8. It would ―speak great words against‖ or blaspheme God
(Daniel 7:25). In Revelation 13:5, the Bible says the same
power speaks ―great things and blasphemies.‖

9. It would ―think to change times and laws.‖ Daniel 7:25.

What does the Bible say the antichrist shall do?

The papacy shall, ―Think to change times and laws.‖ Daniel
7:25.
The Catholic takes pride that ―The pope is of such great
authority and power that he can modify, explain, or interpret even
divine laws. The pope can modify divine law, since his power is not
of man, but of God, and he acts as vicegerent of God upon earth.‖5
―Of course the Catholic church claims that the change (of
Sabbath to Sunday) was her act. It could not have dreamed of
doing anything in matters spiritual and ecclesiastical and religious
without her. And the act is a mark of ecclesiastical power in
religious matters.‖6
Question—‖have you any other way of proving that the
church has power to institute festivals of precept?
Answer—‖had she not such power, she could not have done
that in which modern religionists agree with her, she could not have
substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for
the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which

 ―Prove to me from the bible alone that I am bound to keep
Sunday holy. There is not such law in the bible! It is a law of the
holy Catholic Church alone. The bible says, ‗remember the sabbath
day to keep it holy.‘ the Catholic Church says, no! By divine Power I
abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first
day of the week. And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in
reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic Church.‖ 8
What is the truth of the matter?
No man can really change God‘s Holy Law; he only thinks he
can.
It is true that there is no truth that goes from earth to heaven
because truth is divine. Truth can only go from Heaven to earth.
Jesus said, ―think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the
prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill: “For verily I say
unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no
wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17–18.
Paul writes, “let no man deceive you by any means: for that
day shall not come, except there come a falling away first. And that
man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; “„who opposeth and
exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped;
so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that
he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4.
―The pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a
mere man, but as it were God, and the vicar of God. The pope by
reason of the excellence of his supreme dignity is called bishop of
bishops. He is likewise the divine monarch and supreme emperor,

and king of kings. Hence the pope is crowned with a triple crown, as
king of heaven and earth and of the lower regions.‖9
The pope is the ruler of the world. All the emperos, all kings,
all princes, all the presidents are as these altar boys of mine.10
―And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death.‖
Revelation 13:3.
―He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that
killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword.‖ Revelation
13:10.
We have already shown that the papacy would rule over the earth
for 1260 years— A.D. 538 to 1798.
In 1798 the reign of terror continued in the French revolution
and the Roman Catholic religion was set aside in France. The French
army, under general Berthier, entered Rome and took the pope
prisoner. The date: Feb. 10, 1798. The imprisoned pope died in
exile the following year in valence, France. A great cry was heard,
―Catholicism is dead.‖ The papacy had received the ―Deadly
wound.‖ See revelation 13:3. But we are told that the wound is to
be healed, and the time is soon coming when all the world will,
―wonder after the beast.‖
In 1929 cardinal Gasparre met Premier Mussolini in the palace
of St. John Lateran where the treaty of the Vatican was signed,
returning temporal power to the papacy; and it was again made into
a kingdom with its own territory. But the deadly wound is not yet
entirely healed.

The wound was the separation of the Church of Rome from control
of the state; and when this wound is completely healed, the Roman
Catholic Church will control the civil magistrates. The United States
of America will be the agent to bring this about.
―And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and
he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
―And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and
causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first
beast, whose deadly wound was healed.‖ Revelation 13:11–12.

 4. The false
prophet
The third power through which the spirits of devils are to
work, is symbolized as the false prophet. A false prophet is one who
claims to be a spokesman for God, yet is not a faithful witness. A
false prophet claims to receive messages from God, but in reality
does not act as an intermediary between God and man. False
prophets relay untrue messages which are from a source other than
God.
In Revelation Chapter 16 the false prophet is a symbol of
apostate Protestantism. Once the Protestant churches were God‘s
spokespeople, proclaiming His message to the world. Today they
are in apostasy, yet they still pose as God‘s spokesmen.
The Revelator appears to equate the false prophet with the
image to the beast. In Revelation Chapter 19, where the false
prophet is described, it will be seen that his details correspond with
the description of the image to the beast of Revelation 13:12-17.
The image to the beast will be comprised of the Protestant
churches of America united with the American political powers.
When this union eventuates, one can readily understand how the
false prophet and the image to the beast could be deemed
identical.11

The following points may make these parallels a little clearer:

1. The false prophet is one who once genuinely spoke for God
yet has since become apostate but continues to pose as a
spokesman for God. Balaam, the false prophet of Numbers
Chapters 22-24 can be seen as typical of the false prophet of
Revelation.
2. The false prophet, the image to the beast, is connected with
the second beast of Revelation Chapter 13 (the USA) when it

 compels obedience to the Papacy. It is therefore a religious
entity in league with civil powers (Revelation 13:11-14, 16).
3. The false prophet will support the Papacy and deceive the
people into accepting papal worship in the form of the mark of
the beast (Revelation 19:20).
The only religio-political power which fulfils the above
specifications is the American Protestant churches, as a group,
when they finally unite and ally themselves with the civil power of
the USA.12
In Revelation Chapter 19, where the final conflict of Armageddon is
symbolized, the false prophet is deeply involved:
And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies,
gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse
and against His army. Then the beast was captured, and with him
the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he
deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who
worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire
burning with brimstone. Revelation 19:19-20. The false prophet is a
religious entity (Apostate protestants).

Influence of the occult

As stated previously, the image to the beast, the false
prophet, will be formed when apostate Protestants unite with civil
powers to enact religious laws which will violate conscience.13

 In effect this union will constitute another papacy - hence the
term image to the beast. It follows then that if the spirits of devils
are to come out of the mouth of the false prophet, they must first
enter into the non-Catholic, Protestant churches and take control.
Spiritism has a far greater degree of influence in the Protestant
churches than is generally realized. For many decades, their leaders
have demonstrated a favorable attitude towards Spiritism. This is to
be expected when the majority of the clergy cling to the doctrine of
the immortality of the soul, upon which Spiritism is based.
A striking example of the infiltration of Spiritism into
Protestantism is the charismatic movement. Hundreds of thousands
of sincere people are led to believe that they receive the Holy Spirit
by purportedly speaking in tongues. The evidence, however, shows
that the power involved in this movement is a form of Spiritism - an
impersonation of the Holy Spirit.
The charismatic movement is pervading both Protestant and
Catholic Churches. It has stated that its aim is to unify all Christians
and lead them towards Rome. Revelation Chapter 16 predicts this
outcome. The spirits of devils will gather (or unite) the whole world.
We will witness prolific manifestations of Spiritism in the future
within the non- Catholic churches as well as amongst the political
leadership of the world.

 4. The United
States of America
The papacy is the first power in Revelation 13. However, who
is the second power in Revelation 13? We know that it rises in the
Western Hemisphere and ―he had two horns like a lamb, and he
spake as a dragon‖ (verse 11). This verse indicates that the
government started out lamb-like, being freedom-loving and just,
but it ends up resembling a papal style or satanic government.
The Bible tells us that Christ is the lamb.
The next John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, behold the
lamb of God, which taketh the sin of the world. John 1:29
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of
God.- John 1:36
Christ is the lamb of the Bible prophecy. The second power of
Revelation 13, that rises in the Western Hemisphere, starts out with
a Chris-like government, but ends up acting like the dragon
(Satan). It starts out the opposite of the papacy and ends up just
like her. Since a Christ-like government is opposite of a Satanic
government, then the second power would have these
characteristics in its beginning:
 It is a government of the people, by the people, and for the
people.

  It guarantees certain inalienable rights and freedoms, like
freedom of speech freedom of religion, etc.
 It keeps the church and the government separate.
 It defends its people from political and especially religious
tyranny.
The second power of Revelation 13 that these characteristics
could be none other than the United States of America. She alone
rose up in the Western Hemisphere and began with a lamb-like
government. As we have clearly seen throughout this book, the
Jesuits would be used to destroy this lamb-like government and
make it papal-devilish. Revelation 13 foretold the 2000 years ago
that the Jesuits would be successful, for verse 11 said that America
would begin a lamb-like government, but would one day ―speak as
a dragon‖ Jesuit infiltration in all levels and departments of the
United states government is why this country becomes tyrannical,
persecuting power. America is speaking and behaving more and
more like Satan every day.14
Perhaps not surprisingly, the Bible predicts who in America is
going to win this war over religion and government. But before you
begin figuring that out, you should ask yourself two questions:
What side do you stand for on this issue? And are you sure that God
is standing behind you?15
What will soon happen to America?
Bill Hughes reveals that: The United States must soon face
the most deadly enemy it will never have to face. This enemy is not

only the usual military enemy, but it has the organisation and the
capability for massive espionage and clandestine operations within
the United States. It uses a facade, right now, this enemy is
working secretly to undermine the principles that made this country
the greatest nation in the world. This enemy has infiltrated the
highest levels and departments of the U.S. government, and poses
an extreme danger to America.16
What is meant by "giving life to the image of the
beast"? See Revelation 13:15. "When our nation shall so adjure
the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, . . .it will
be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been
eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active
despotism."17

When will the "image of the beast" be formed?

"The image of the beast will be formed before probation

closes; for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which
their eternal destiny will be decided."18

Who is working behind America?

From Bill Hughes quotation we learnt that there is an enemy
working behind secretly. The United States will soon restore civil
power to the papacy. What will be the outcome of this?

 “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the
means of those miracles which he had power to do in the
sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth,
that they should make an image to the beast, which had the
wound by a sword, and did live”
“And he had power to give life unto the image of the
beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and
cause that as many as would not worship the image of the
beast should be killed”
“and he causeth all, both small and great, rich and
poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or
in their foreheads:
“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had
the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his
name.” Revelation 13:14–18.
The United States of America arose silently out of the earth
around 1798, about the same time as the papacy lost its power.
As time comes to an end these occurrences will become much
worse, for which God's people will receive blame. The spiritualists
and many preachers will say that these terrible things of nature will
not cease until Sunday sacredness is honored by all. The people will
demand Sunday laws. The United States will lead out in this, and all
the world will follow. “And all the world wondered after the beast.”
Revelation 13:3.
“And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the

that they should make an image to the beast, which had the
wound by a sword, and did live”-Revelation 13:1
“I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the
mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and
out of the mouth of the false prophet.
“For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which
go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world,
to gather them to the battle of that great day of God
almighty”-Revelation 16:13–14
“Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter
times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to
seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; “speaking lies in
hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
“forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from
meats, which God hath created to be received with
.thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth”-
1Timothy 4:1–3
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come. for men shall be lovers of their own selves, . . .
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof:
from such turn away”- 2 timothy 3:1–2, 5
All who refuse compliance with this law will be threatened
with fines, jail sentences and finally death.
“And cause that as many as would not worship the image of
the beast should be killed.” Revelation 13:15.
These Sunday laws will be passed in the United States of
America, then every country on the face of the earth will follow—old
Mexico, south America, India, Asia, Europe, Russia, Africa and all

the islands of the seas. Every person in the whole world will have to
make the decision, whether to obey God‘s law or man‘s law.
“And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him
[the beast], whose names are not written in the book of life
of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
Revelation 13:8.
―And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and
ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast
and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.‖
Revelation 14:11.
We may ask the question: how did papal Rome come to
have so much power?
―and I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast [pagan
Rome] rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, . .
. And upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
“And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard,
and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the
mouth of a lion: and the Dragon gave him [papal Rome] his
power, and his seat, and great authority. . . . And all the
world wondered after the beast.” Revelation 13:1–3.
―The removal of the capitol of the empire from Rome to
Constantinople in 330 left the western church, practically free from
imperial power, to develop its own organization. The bishop of
Rome, in the seat of then Caesars was now the greatest man in the
west, and was soon forced to become the political as well as the

 5. The Sabbath-
Sunday
controversy
Satan‘s rebellion is that he exalts himself above God. “Ezekiel
writes: Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the
Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am
a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art
a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of
God:”-Ezekiel 28:2

This rebellion of Satan is practiced by the Papacy. Paul writes,

―let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come,
except there come a falling away first. And that man of sin be
revealed, the son of perdition; ―‗who opposeth and exalteth himself
above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as
God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.‖ 2
Thessalonians 2:3–4.
The Sabbath-Sunday controversy isn‘t just about a day – it is
all about an attempted asurpation by a power that seeks to make
itself God of the world (in fact this is the same thing that Satan did
in Heaven before the beginning of time), to claim a role that
belongs only to God by virtue of the fact that He, and He alone, is

the creator. To take His role as creator, one He instituted Himself,
and to replace it with something else represents a flagrant attack
against His authority at the most basic level possible.
And what many Christians don‘t know is that this is precisely
what Sundaykeeping, as opposed to Sabbath, is all about-a
conscious attempt to seize God‘s ultimate authority as creator.

The mark of the beast

“if any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his
mark in his forehead, or in his hand, “the same shall drink of the
wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into
the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and
brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of
the lamb.” Revelation 14:9–10.
How will the pope’s followers honor the pope?
The best way to honor the pope is to take His teachings. 20 So
the world and the fallen churches will obey the Sunday law.
What solemn warning is given to the world?
The most fearful warning of punishment found anywhere in

What is the mark of the beast?

The mark of the beast is Sunday worship enforced by law—this is a
mark of the authority Roman Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church says; ―of course the catholic church
claims that the change [Saturday to Sunday] was her act. . . . And
the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power.‖21
