C.

Preliminary Design

To provide effective teaching and learning needed by the beneficiaries, the structures of

the project are equipped with classrooms and different facilities. Discussed below are the

specifications and components of each of these facilities based on the application of design

consideration.

C.1. Proposed Four-Storey School Building

The four – storey building is composed of 12 classrooms intended for the additional

students. The classroom size was 7m width by 9m length based from the Minimum

Performance Standards and Specifications (MPSS) of DepEd School Building. The

windows in each classroom was approximately 12 square meter that can provide natural

illumination and ventilation, and is 0.9m above finish floor lines. Each classroom has two

(2) doors that has a dimension of 0.9m wide by 2.1m high and can swing out by 180 degrees

and also serve as the fire exit. The floor is non-skid finish and the classroom finish floor

line was 25mm. higher than the corridor. The clear height of each room is 2.7m. The

corridor in each floor is 2.5m. wide. The stairways width is 1.5m. with steel handrails. The

built-in curved chalkboard has a dimension of 4.88m length by 1.22m high and 0.65mm

above finish floor line. Dimension and design of the school building followed the minimum

prescribed dimension and design standard in the MPSS of DepEd School Building.

C.2. Proposed Three - Storey School Building

The three – storey building is composed of 9 classrooms intended for the students

with disabilities. The ground floor is for the students that can’t access the second and third

floor. The classroom size was 7m width by 9m length based from the MPSS of DepEd

School Building. The windows in each classroom was approximately 12 square meter that

can provide natural illumination and ventilation, and is 0.9m above finish floor lines. Each

classroom has two (2) doors that has a dimension of 0.9m wide by 2.1m high and can swing

out by 180 degrees and also serve as the fire exit. The floor is non-skid finish and the

classroom finish floor line was 25mm. higher than the corridor. The clear height of each

C.3. Proposed School Canteen

The proposed school canteen dimension is 18m. length by 10m. wide with a

corridor 1.675m. wide. The school canteen is 25mm. higher than the corridor. Dimension

of the canteen is suggested by the proponents to maximize the space on the area. The

structure has two staff rooms with the dimension of 3m. by 1.5m. each, a storage room

with the dimension of 2m. by 2m., two kitchens with the dimension of 4m. by 3m. each, 2

service counter with the dimension of 1.5m by 1.5m. each and a dining space with the

dimension of 18m. by 5m. The dining space has 1.4 square meter allowable space each

student and the total occupancy load is approximately 65 persons. The canteen is located

near the clinic that is equipped by washing area. The kitchen is equipped by food

preparation area, cooking area and cleaning area. The total of area window opening is

approximately 20 square meters. It has two main double doors that will serve as the

entrance and exit with the dimension of 1.8m. wide by 2.1 m. high. All the dimensions of

the facilities are suggested by the proponents to maximize the space. The equipped

facilities inside the canteen was based from DepEd 2010 Educational Facilities Manual.

The doors and windows followed the minimum prescribed dimension in the MPSS of

DepEd School Building.

C.4. Proposed School Science Laboratory

The proposed school science laboratory dimension is 18m. by 8m. with a corridor

1.5m. wide. The laboratory is 25 mm. higher than the corridor. It is designed for the

students conducting experiment and different laboratory exercise. It has three entry/exit

doors 1m. wide and 2.1 m. high. The laboratory is equipped by a classroom, storage room

and control room. The storage and control room has a dimension of 3m. by 2.2m. each.

The tables in room is fixed and made from reinforced concrete to provide stability during
the laboratory exercises. The laboratory is approximately 10m. far from the proposed three

- storey school building. The design of the laboratory is based from the DepEd 2010

Educational Facilities Manual. The dimensions followed the minimum prescribed

dimension in the DepEd Design Standard and DPWH Design Standard.
