GENERAL OBJECTIVE

This study aims to determine the Impact of microagressions to a student’s

academic performance.

SCOPE

The proposed study focuses to determine the impact of microagressions to a

student’s academic performance. 50 selected students from the department of

College of Accountancy in the academic year 2018-2019 will serve as the

respondents of this study. This study will be conducted in the premises of New

Era University.

METHODOLOGY

The type of research will be used is the qualitative method of research will be

used in collecting needed data. Through this method, the researchers will be

able to gather the needed data and will be able to apply supplementary analysis

that would market it significant to future uses of the result. This research method

was anticipated and tested by some past researchers as fact finding with

adequate interpretation. And so, this research is conducted to know if

microaggression has a negative/positive impact on student's academic

performance.

Hypotheses

Ho: p = 0 If academic performance of the student is not affected

negatively by micro-aggressions, then the students

who experience micro-aggression will perform

efficiently.

Ha: p ≠ 0 If academic performance of the student is affected

negatively by micro-aggressions, then the students

who experience micro-aggression will perform less

efficiently.

Significance of Study

The results of this study are beneficial to the following:

Students. They will gain knowledge on why microaggressions has been a

vital problem in people's lives. By spreading awareness, students can evade

discouragement towards co-students and others. It will prevent the students

from committing harmful microaggressions towards people and will give

them an insight on the impact of offensive acts or statement.

Professors. The culmination of this study will provide some discernment in

avoiding microaggressions inside/outside their classes, due to the fact that it

may greatly affect a student in his/her education. With professors’ knowledge

of microaggressions, they will be conscious, thus, eluding demoralization of

students.

Future researchers. It will substantially aid future researchers with the

presumption that they will undergo an identical analysis. By providing a study

of this certain subject, they can enhance and improve it furthermore.

To the society. The upshot of this study can improve the society's morals.

By acquiring an understanding about microaggression, the society will be

more careful, owing to the fact that demoralization, discouragements, dispirit,

insults and verbal assaults could diminish, and thus, it could bear

considerable effect to mankind.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study aims to determine the Impact of microagressions to a

student’s academic performance. Selected students from the department of

College of Accountancy in the academic year 2018-2019 will serve as the

respondents of this study. This study will be conducted in the premises of

New Era University.

CHAPTER IV

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the respondents, research design, sample of the

population, instrumentation.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are 50 selected students of New Era University

during the year 2017-2018.

Research Design

Bums and Grove (2003:195) define a research design as "a blueprint

for conducting a study with maximum control over factors that may interfere

with the validity of the findings." Parahoo (1997:142) describes a research

design as "a plan that describes how, when, and where data are to be

collected and analyzed." For this research, the qualitative method of

research will be used in collecting needed data.

Through this method, the researchers will be able to gather the needed

data and will be able to apply supplementary analysis that would market it

significant to future uses of the result. This research method was anticipated

and tested by some past researchers as fact finding with adequate

interpretation. And so this research is conducted to know if microaggression

has an impact on student's academic performance.

Sampling Procedure

For some studies, the population may be small enough to warrant the

inclusion of all of them in the study. But a study may entail a large population

which cannot all be studied. That portion of the population that is studied is

called a sample of the population (Nworgu 1991:69). Sampling is the process

whereby the researchers choose their sample. For this study, the

convenience sampling will be used. Convenience sampling is a non-

probability sampling technique where subjects are selected because of their

convenient accessibility and proximity. Non-probability sampling focuses on

sampling techniques where the units that are investigated are based on the

judgment of the researcher. Sample of the population of this research gave

a total of 50 respondents. We, the researchers will be using this type

because it was anticipated that it is the most suitable for this study.
