“A-type” Ladder
Falls from ladders are one of the leading causes of injuries to construction workers.
When climbing up or down, workers should
 Workers must not work from the top two
rungs of a ladder.
 Always face the ladder Use a three-point
contact climbing method as shown at right
(two hands and one foot, or one hand and
two feet)
 One person should hold the ladder while
the workmen on the ladder
 Only one worker at a time is allowed on a
single-width ladder.
 Workers must not use ladder-type material
hoists for roof access unless the hoists are
designed for that purpose.

Mobile Scaffold
Scaffolding has been one of the primary tools used to perform elevated work in the construction industry for quite
some time. Scaffolds are very useful because they allow you to gain access to work areas that are above floor level
while providing a work platform. However, because of the design and configuration of mobile scaffolds, which are
sometimes referred to as Baker or Perry scaffolds, they can become quite unstable when supporting a load.

Before Erecting the Mobile scaffold

1. Check all components are in good condition
2. Check wheels for effective rotation
3. Checks brakes and locking devices work correctly
Before Use
1. Ensure the tower is vertical and square
2. Towers must not be used unless the wheels are locked
3. Check that outriggers are set correctly and secured
4. Ensure the platform is fully boarded out and guard-rails and toe-
boards are fitted if the working platform is over 2 meters high
5. The gap between toe-boards and mid guard-rails, and between mid
and top guard-rails, must not exceed 470 mm
Hazards
1. Don’t exceed the manufacturer’s SWL for the Scaffold
2. Never move the Scaffold with people on it
3. When moving the Scaffold, ensure there are no obstructions or
overhead power lines in the way
4. When working, ensure the access door is closed on the platform
REMEMBER: After moving a tower and before use, wheels must be locked.
