1 Introduction
Petronas Carigali Pakistan Limited (PCPL) is carrying out design verification and
capacity enhancement studies for Rehmat Gas Plant (RGP). PCPL has hired Clough
Engineering and Integrated Solution (CEIS) to perform these studies fkr process units.

This document describes the process design basis for design verification and capacity
enhancement studies. The facility is designed to handle 70 MMSCFD raw gas. The
gas plant mainly comprise of following unit:

1. Inlet Separation

2. Amine Sweetening Unit (2 x 50%)

3. Condensate Degasser

4. Dew Point Control Unit.

5. Gas Chiller

6. Hot Oil Systam (2 x 50%)

7. Gas Metering

2 Site Condition
Meteorological data of Sukker has shown a temperature of 46ºC maximum and 4ºC
minimum satisfying 95% cumulative distribution of daily record for the period starting
from Jan 2001 to Dec 2006. However PCPLs plant staff has experienced higher
temperatures than this. A margin may also be added into this temperature however
there are nor firm basis found for margin.

It is therefore agreed that ambient temperatures recorded by OMV for Sawan gas
plant will be used for RGP process improvement study as Sawan gas plant is close to
RGP (about 40 km) [Ref 6]. Other environmental conditions are taken from site and
environmental data provided by PCPL [Ref 1].

Purity: The gas should be free from foreign material and dust, or other solid or liquid
matter, waxes, gums and gum formatting constituents which might cause interference
with the proper operation of the buyer facilities.

4 Feed Analysis
The reservoir analysis of the feed stream is provided by PCPL [Ref 1]. Sampling
pemperature and pressure for Re-1 and Re-2 are 154ºF / 1246psig and 243ºF / 1271
psig.

The raw gas flow rate of 70 MMSCFD is considered for design verification study. While
for capacity enhancement study a raw gas flow rate of 80 MMSCFD is considered.

It is decided with PCPL that the condensate analysis of Re-1 will be used for Re-3.
[Reb 2].

4.1 Flowing Condition

The raw gas flowing conditions for Re-1 and Re-2 are established based on the
performance test report provided by PCPL [Ref 3]. It may be noted that these
temperature are at upstream of flowline and downstream of choke valve. However the
raw gas conditions for Re-1 is used for Re-3 as advised by PCPL.

Flowing Temperature (ºF) Flowing Pressure (Psig)

Rehmat-1 165 1480

Rehmat-2 236 1525

Rehmat-3 165 1480

To calculate the temperature gradient across the flow lines and process plant inlet
temperature, a separate hydraulic simulation of flow lines is carried out using updated
feed stream composition and wellhead flowing conditions observed during test run.
Process plant inlet temperatures are calculated as follows for use in detailed
simulation of RGP:

Dear Irfan,

I planned to sent this email earlier but our email server was down late last Friday. It was also not very stable this
morning. Took quite sometime to get any email thru..

For RGPIP simulation, please use below CGR, WGR and LGR for

CGR
Rehmat 1 3.23
Rehmat 2 3.47
Rehmat 3 3.30

WGR
Rehmat 1 5.72
Rehmat 2 6.87
Rehmat 3 0.01

LGR
Rehmat 1 8.95
Rehmat 2 10.34
Rehmat 3 3.31

I checked this figure with the planner here. This is from their latest forecast.

On the Amine Unit Simulation, Lets use AmineExpert. They are more experienced compared to even SGSI
(50yrs doing amine studies work). Their quotation is also comparatively low (Euro 7000) for the whole scope,
and the duration is not long (±40hrs).

As for Huntsman, they are the amine provider. I think we better have 3rd party to do the work to ensure
impartial assessments. But i'm getting them to perform some run comparing between generic and activated. We
can use these results as comparison.

I will forward to you the communication so far between Siti and AmineExpert, as well as the one I have with
huntsman.

Thanks

Wassalam Siti

I would wait for final numbers of CGR and WGR from Mior.

Attached is the proposal from Pakistan Meteorological department for Sukkur. This
proposal is based on Minimum and Maximum Temperature for 6 years (from 2000 to
2006); however we can purchase the data as per our selected time with the following
cost provided by Met. Department:

• Monthly max: Rs. 100 per month (one number for the month)
• Monthly min: Rs. 100 per month (one number for the month)
• Daily max: Rs 500 per month (for 30 days)
• Daily min: Rs 500 per month (for 30 days)

Kindly advise the time period for which the data is to be purchased, so we can find the
revised quotation, if required.
I regret for the delays from met. Dept, but now it will be done very quickly as things are
streamlined with government office.

Thanks and Regards,

Irfan Hussain

Assalamualaikum Irfan,

Do you recall our earlier discussions regarding to CGR of 10-15 STB/MMSCFD

for R1 & R2? I thought it was based on production forecast or production
record from site. As per discussion with Mior today, the highest CGR in the
production forecast and production data recorded from site is about 3-4
STB/MMSCFD. Please get confirmation with Mior, he will confirm the values
with our Reservoir Engineer.

Thanks.

Siti,

We were of the same opinion that 46oC would be used. However Sukkar is the nearest
meteorological centre to RGP, and as per PCPL’s experience, there is some difference in
ambient conditions of Sukkar and RGP. A margin could be taken into 46oC; however
there is no basis for selection of margin here.

It is therefore recommended to use ambient temperature of Sawan gas plant (51oC),

recorded and supplied by OMV. Clough has used this number in Sawan capacity
enhancement study last year. This project has now been implemented and plant is now
in operation with expanded capacity.

It may be noted here that distance between Sawan plant and RGP is about 40km and
ambient conditions should not be different.
Can PCPL contact OMV for the daily air temperatures record, if required for record
purpose??

Further please advise, should we finalise the simulation report and heat/material balance
at 51oC?

Best Regards,
Irfan Hussain

Assalamualaikum, Dear all,

This is such a long outstanding issue. Never thought that acquiring air temperatures data is such a
headache, we don’t have this problem in Malaysia…

My only comment is if we were to follow whatever Sawan is using, please make sure that we do have
all the daily air temperatures record. Please table out the daily air temperature record of Sawan for
future reference if you have decided on the above.
And again as per my earlier email, PTS design for air coolers should be based on 95% cumulative
distribution of daily records on air temperatures. I tend to agree with Sukkur data, 46deg C (ie. For
347 days in a year it will work..): that’s the max air temperatures for 95% of the time, at least we have
the daily data documented from 2001-2006!

Mior

As per our discussion, following basis will be considered for air cooled temperatures:

- Based on temperature record at Sawan gas plant, simulation of RGP will be

performed using 51oC as thermal design temperature of air coolers.
- Air cooled heat exchangers will be rated using 51oC (outlet as 61oC), if the air
coolers are found failed at 51oC, then the previous simulations will be updated using
some lower temperatures to investigate the optimum temperature at which, air coolers
will adequately work.

For your info, 46oC was calculated for last 6 years (2001 to 2006) with 95% frequency of
daily maximum temperature, based on Meteorological data of Sukkar.

Kindly confirm the above understanding, to proceed with 51oC.

Irfan Hussain

Mior,

51oC is used at Sawan plant as design temperature for thermal design of air cooled heat
exchangers. At Sawan, OMV has their own system for taking record of ambient
temperatures throughout the year. I am not sure what was done before installation of
plant. Perhaps data of Sukkar would be used with some overdesign margin.

If 5oC or 6oC is used, there would be potential chances of air coolers failure during
rating, which will result in requirement of heavy investment. I suggest 47oC - 48oC is
quite reasonable number for thermal rating of air cooled heat exchangers.

Kindly suggest, should we submit the simulation and rating of coolers at these
temperatures??

Irfan Hussain

Dear Irfan,

Thanks for the effort.

I've talked today with Abdullah about similar topics. We can add additional margin of 02 - 03°C. But i s
this a right margin to use (And why not 5°C or 6°C. ). Abdullah was suggesting to check on what was
used in Sawan Gas Plant design basis. Do they also use Sukkar's?

Out of curriosity where is the next nearest met centre to RGP? Maybe the condition is more similar to
what we are seeing in RGP?

I was told that this year the winter was not as long as before. It was also warmer. With the talk about
global warming i think we can expect a hotter summer eh? Bakry, is it possible and practical to ask
RGP and Sukkar guest house to take max temperature reading?

Any ideas?

Attached please find the Meteorological data (Sukkar) from 2001 to 2004.

o o
Although the ambient temperature approaches to 50 C, it does not remain for a long period. 45 C
remains for more than 90% of the days in a year (see attached frequency table for ambient
temperatures).
o
I therefore recommend 45 C for rating of air cooled exchangers based on above parameters.

The nearest met. centre to the RGP is Sukkar. Temperature of Sukkar may be slightly different due to
distance/nearby rivers etc; but we can only estimate this difference based on our practical
observation.

o
An additional margin of 02 – 03 C may also be added in the max ambient temperature due to this
reason. Please suggest if it is required.

o
04 C will be used as minimum temperature, as per attached table.

Thanks and Regards,

Irfan Hussain

Mr. Mior

This has reference to our communication regarding above mentioned subject. We have received the
temperature data form Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) from January 2004 to December
2006 the remaining data from January 2001 to December 2003 , will be followed with in next two
working days.

Attach please find the temperature data from the PMD and I am sending you a hard copy as well for
your review. It may be noted that maximum temperature during this period has not exceed 50 ºC. May
we consider this for air cooler or wait for the data to come.
