Introduction

INTRODUCTION
DEFINITION OF OPERATIVE DENTISTRY
 Operative Dentistry is the art and science of the
diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of defects of
teeth that do not require full coverage restorations
for the correction. Such treatment should result in
the restoration of proper tooth form, function, and
esthetics while maintaining the physiologic
integrity of the teeth in a harmonius relationship
with the adjacent hard and soft tissues, all of which
should enhance the general health and welfare of
the patient.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES


1. Diagnosis of the extent and location(s) of the
lesions.
2. Prevention of the disease.
3. Interruption, i.e. prevention of further loss of
the tooth structure.
4. Preservation of the vitality and important
anatomy of the remaining sound tooth
structure.
5. Restoration of health.
6. Preservation of esthetics.
