TREND-ZINE: A Finals Performance Task

I. Introduction

The whole subject focused on transmitting analytical skills to students by providing

them with different tools to probe certain issues besetting our contemporary society as well
as exposing them to the various mediums where such tools and analysis could be
showcased. Through various written works and performance tasks, they were able to
express their opinions and analysis on various topics and trends, all the while the facilitator
of learning has witnessed the growth of their skill in the midst of social and political
challenges currently overshadowing modern society.

Such assumptions became the cornerstone of this finals performance task—the

construction of a small publication (the guidelines and contents of which are stipulated
below)—a magazine, that shall contain advertisements, opinion articles, and editorial
cartoons that shall spotlight the skills of the students on expressing their critical opinions on
trends and issues, as well as an avenue for such expression should the students’ means are
through the creation of visual artworks (comic strips, editorial cartoons) or literary attempts
(poem, flash fiction).

II. Guidelines for the Activity

1. The students will be divided into four (4) groups.

2. Each group will be tasked to create a magazine with the following parts:
a. Title and Cover Page (which shall contain the title of the magazine, and must give
hint on the contents, like in an actual magazine)
b. First Advertisement Page (the advertisement shall be persuasive. It could either be a
product ad or a campaign ad)
c. Editorial Cartoon (this must talk about a social issue and must be accompanied
with…)
d. Editorial Article (this must expound the social issue being talked about in the
editorial cartoon and must not be more than 300 words)
e. Second Advertisement Page
f. Feature Page (this shall contain Book and Movie reviews, interest articles and
listicles)
g. Critical Article Page (groups may utilize the revised critical papers that the teachers
has checked and corrected)
h. Third Advertisement Page
i. Literary Page (this page shall contain poems and other literary attempts whose
themes revolve around social trends and issues)
j. Group Members’ Page (this page shall serve as the “about the authors” section of
their magazine

3. IMPORTANT REMINDER: While the groups are given the freedom to present and lay-
out the magazine to the extent of their creative abilities, the teachers of TNCT are
HIGHLY ENCOURAGING that each group do it in the EASIEST and CHEAPEST way
possible. Creativity can be showcased even with the simplest of materials.
4. The magazines must be submitted during the scheduled Finals week of the FEUHS.
