Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (P/SL) is pleased to now offer Nitrous Oxide (also known as

Denver, CO, March 12, 2019 --(PR.com)-- Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center (P/SL) is pleased to
now offer Nitrous Oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) as an option to delivering mothers to provide
anxiety relief during childbirth.
Nitrous Oxide, a colorless, odorless gas was first used during labor in the 1930's. While Nitrous Oxide
does not minimize pain endured during delivery, it does reduce anxiety and allow mothers to better
manage their pain levels. By holding your own mask, you decide when to use it and how much gas you
need. Some women say it 'takes the edge off' of their pain.
“We are thrilled to offer Nitrous Oxide to our mothers at Presbyterian/St. Luke's,” states Jessica
McCalman, Manager of Labor at Delivery at P/SL. “Caring for both mom and baby under one roof, we
are proud to provide leading pregnancy, childbirth and pediatric care in the Rocky Mountain Region. Our
labor and delivery unit has board-certified OB/GYN laborists and anesthesiologists available at all hours
of the day and night to care for mothers in labor. We're highly experienced in both low-risk and high-risk
deliveries.”
Nitrous Oxide has no effect on the length of someone's labor and no known effects on the baby. Nitrous is
the only pain relief method used for labor that is cleared from the body through the lungs. So as soon as
you stop breathing the gas, the nitrous effect is gone within a minute or two.
