Visit: Fazal Steel (Pvt) Limited as Host
Review:

We conduct a visit of Fazal steel (Pvt) at January 6th. We as a host and two other groups are as
guest members. And this visit is all about how they follow total quality management in their firm
and the certification of ISO.

Purpose of visit:

As I told above the purpose is about total quality management and the ISO certification. Our
meeting is with Mr. Sajid Akram Quality assurance head of Fazal steel. He told us that they are
certified ISO 9001-2008(QMS) and 14000-2004(EMS) and they follow these standard from
1997. So basically the apply TQM in their steel mill as an ISO and they follow all the procedure
of ISO. The manufacture 40-60 gauge steel and the import the raw material from South Africa.
Mr. Sajid replied to the question of how they measure the quality. That they use seven statistical
tool of quality measuring like SPC chart, MS to check measuring gauge, catting chart etc. And
also they have laboratories to check the quality. They test 4-5 sample of10 ton. They install UTM
(Universal Testing Machine) through which they check yield and tensile. To control all these
mechanisms and parameters by ASTM (American Standard of Testing Material) which shows the
reading how much tensile is and also yield. In answering the question about are they using six
sigma? But Mr. Sajid replied that no, because six sigma is used where tolerance is approximately
zero. They said their customer are very loyal to them and they also take feedback through online
form. They also used proper mechanism for environment control and also used mechanism to
control water pollution. Because these all are the requirement of ISO 14000. And they keep their
worker safe by providing gloves, long shoes and their dresses also provide them medical facilities.
And at last they told us that the only problem is of late delivery.
