Trees aren’t just for
This purple Halloween tree is
a simple, fall project that I hope
will bring light and happiness
into your home.
It was very simple to make
considering I purchased the
tree, the light strands, and the
silver ornaments all from Hobby
Lobby premade.
The picture, bottom right,
shows what materials you will
need, which include: scissors,
orange and black foam sheets,
a glue stick, small silver orna-
ments, a purple strand of lights,
and small googely eyes.
First I cut out around ten or-
ange pumpkins (giving them
stems makes them balance in
the tree more easily), twenty
black triangles, and ten differ-
ent, black, spooky smiles. Mak-
ing each of your cutouts differ-

ent will add more interest to the
tree.
I then balanced the foam into
the branches of the tree. It’s
pretty simple to do this, because
the foam is so light.
I also made black bat cut outs
and glued on googley eyes. But
they didn’t stand out in tree as
well as the pumpkins.
This project is kid friendly, es-
pecially if you cut out the foam
shapes beforehand and let the
kids pick and choose the eyes
and smiles.
It only took about an hour to
complete and it’s one of my fa-
vorites, because it’s very simple.
I have always believed that
keeping your projects simple
is best, because it makes do-it-
yourself projects more relaxing
than stressful.

Recycled Halloween illumination
These recycled decorations
are a great way to spruce up a
porch or a funky centerpiece
around Halloween.
You will need: two green two
liters, a glue stick, a black per-
manent marker, one one gallon
milk jug, two pieces of black felt,
one piece of black construction
paper, an “X-Acto” knife, and
one strand of christmas lights.
I used the permanent marker
to draw on faces. This is really
easy and would be a great part
of the project to do with chil-
dren. I even let my boyfriend
help me with this part.
The next step is a little more
complicated. I cut two circles out
of the construction paper that
were about 4 1/2 in diameter.
These circles will act as tops to
Frankenstein’s hair.
Then I took my two pieces of
felt and cut a zig zag line across
the bottom to create a messy
hairline for the frankenstein
decorations.
Next use your glue stick to
wrap the black felt around the
top of the two liter and then
glue the circles directly on top
of the felt. It should create an
extended cylinder of hair for the
frankenstein figures.
At this point I decided to take
the two caps from the two liters
and glue them to the sides to
create neck bolts for my figure.
This is optional, I just thought it
added something extra.
This is how they should look
at this point. If you just want to
use these for a centerpiece then
you can stop now and just set
them out for everyone to enjoy.

Buying into the owl craze
This is a simple project that can
be used throughout the entire fall
season.
I love it because it can be illu-
minated, if you buy the lantern that
already has a light kit inside. They
are little more expensive but well
worth it.
To create this project I started by
creating a simple fan from the white
construction paper and taped it to
the top of the lantern.
Next I cut out two brown circles
and two brown wing shapes. Then I
cut out two smaller white and blue
circles of different sizes.
Then to create the flower effect of
the white circle, I folded it in half
and cut triangles into the sides.
After you have these three circles

ate the owl’s eyes. It is best to only

You can add depth to the nose by • String and a place to

To attach the feet I pushed a pipe
cleaner through each one and twist-
ed the ends up so that you could
see it. Once you have one foot on
each end of the pipe cleaner twist it
around the metal inside the lantern,
and allowed them to dangle below.
Then hang the owl from any de-
sired place. The lantern will have a
small hook inside to allow you to
hang it from a string or your ceiling.

Creating your centerpiece

When creating my centerpiece this fall, I took
a trip to my local orchard and bought gourds for
25 cents a piece. You can never have too many
gourds, just make sure that they very in color
and shape.
I then just simply arranged them in a basket
and added a candle, a simple Frankenstein figu-
rine, fake leaves (one dollar at Dollar Tree), and
fake acorns (one dollar at Dollar Tree) to create
a simple arrangement on my table

Nothin says

Trick-or-Treat
You can hardly call this
a project it’s so simple to
make. But it’s the perfect
way of letting trick-or-treat-
ers know that you are home.
At night, the light from
the inside of the house
shines out and makes this
Jack-o-lantern’s face very
friendly and noticable from
the street.
To make this simple
decoration, you will need
two large pieces of black
construction paper (you
can buy these at your local
crafts store), scissors, and
tape.

You can create any type
of face that you like out of
the paper.
I went with a well-known
face. Two large triangles for
eyes and a big smile with
two missing teeth.
Of course making any
face you want is half the fun
of creating this project any-
ways.
Next, I simply taped the
paper onto the inside of the
window. The paper can get
faded if you pick an espe-
cially sunny window, so it’s
best to pick one that is in
the shade.
