I. Adds simple and mixed fractions without regrouping

Listen attentively when somebody is talking.

II. Subject Matter and Materials

A. Adding similar fractions in simple and mixed forms without regrouping

B. K-12 Curriculum Guide in Mathematics 6, MGNS-Ia-86
C. Flashcards, activity sheets, textbook
D. DRR Competency
13. a Understand the concept of disaster prevention
III. Procedure
A. Pre-Activity
1. Drill
(Using Multiplication Facts)
2. Problem Drill
3. Review how to reduce fractions to their lowest terms
6/8 4/8 3/9 5/15 4/12
4. Checking of Assignment
B. Developmental Activities
1. Pre-Test
Add the following fractions. Reduce to lowest terms if necessary.
1. 2/14 + 1/14 + 7/14
2. 6/12 + 2/12 + 2/12
3. 3/15 + 4/15 + 7 4/ 15
4. 6 2/10 + 3 3 /10 + 4/10
5. 8 4/11 + 3 2/11 + 7 4/11
2. Pre-Asses
3. Motivation
Who among you here whose father is a farmer? Have they
experienced large losses and damages on their crops due to natural
calamities? What did they do to protect their crops?
4. Presentation
Mr. de Guzman’s house was flooded for five days by Typhoon
Ondoy. To protect his family’s property from being damaged in
subsequent typhoons, he plans to construct a second floor. If his house
was already 5 ¼ meters high and he adds 3 ¾ meters, how tall will his
house be from the ground to the ceiling of the second floor?
Instruction before answering the questions below:
a. Make a drawing of the first house. Label the height from the
ground floor to the ceiling.
b. Make a drawing of the new house with the second floor. Label
the distance from the second floor to the ceiling.
c. Label the distance from the ground to the ceiling of the second
floor.

 What happened to Mr. de Guzman’s house when

Typhoon Ondoy hit?
 What does he plan to do?
 Why does he plan to construct a second floor in the
house?
 What was the height of Mr. de Guzman’s house?
 How many meters more will be added with the
construction of the second floor?
 What will be the height of the new house from the
ground floor to the ceiling of the second floor?

Discuss: Constructing of flood- resistant house is an example of

disaster prevention. Disaster prevention refers to measures that you can take to avoid the
damaging effect of a disaster.

Group Reporting/Discussion
How did you find the answer to the given problem?

5. Fixing Skills
Find the sum. Use your slate board for computation. Reduce
to lowest term.
1. ¾ + ¼ = 4. 6 ½ + 7 ½ 9 ½ =
2. 2 1/3 + 4 2/3 = 5. 7 3/6 + 10 4/6
3. 5 2/5 + 6 4 3/5 + 4 4/4=

6. Generalization
How do we add similar fractions in simple or mixed form without
regrouping?
7. Application
Find the sum. Reduce your answers to lowest terms.

1. 3 4/11 + 5 2/11 + 6 3/11=

2. 12 8/16 + 7 3/16 + 9 4/16=
3. 4 3/6 + 4 2/6=
4. 9 2/9 + 4 3/9=
5. 10 8/8 + 14 4/8
IV.Evaluation
Find the sum. Reduce the answer to lowest terms.

1. 2/14+1/14+7/14=
2. 6/12 + 2/12 + 2/12=
3. 3/15 + 4/15 + 7 4/15=
4. 6 2/10 + 3 1/10 + 4/10=
5. 8 4/11 + 3 2/11 + 7 4/11=
V. Assignment
Find the sum. Reduce to lowest terms.
1. 4 /12 + 4/12 + 7/12=
2. 3 ¾ + 6 1/4=
3. 5 3/6 + 4 2/6 +6 5/6=
