Curriculum Area: The Arts - Christmas Lights Finger Painting Date: Wednesday, December 3rd, 2018

Learning Goals:
Today I am learning…

Success Criteria:
❏ I can use different colours of paint to make a painting

❏ I can turn my page into a string of lights
Teacher Questions/Prompts:
❏ What colours do you want to use?
❏ Are you going to do a pattern?
❏ How many light bulbs will there be?
❏ What finger are you using? (thumb, pointer etc.)

Through observation educator will take mental note of those who understand how to do this activity, and those
who struggle. After student is finished, educator will make a short note on the back of the paper of their
progress and their work.
Materials required:
❏ paint
❏ warm water
❏ soap
❏ paper towels
❏ paper
❏ pencil
❏ paint easel
Possible learning experiences:
Students can relate this activity to past patterning lessons, and to the colour hunt we went on where
we discussed warm and cool colours. They can learn about the different names of each finger. They
can see how each finger is a different print! This lesson is more of a craft for hands on, students will
learn its okay to be messy sometimes.
Next steps & extensions:
We can take this lesson into a health lesson about being more aware of your body and the names of
your body, specifically the name of each finger!

MINDS ON
Script how you plan to introduce this activity to the students. Use back of the plan.

Educator will call 2 students over at a time. Educator will show student’s an example of what their
work will look like and have the students dip their thumbs in two different colours. They will paint
their bulbs those colours, they will then wash their hands and repeat the process with 2 different
colours! Put their name on it, and put it on the drying rack.
