CITECT USER MANUAL

Introduction

This document specifies the operation of an Operator Interface System

(OIS) for the monitoring and storing of coal quality information provided by
the COALSCAN 9500 analyser. The COALSCAN 9500 provides a combined
ash, moisture and energy result and these are available on the system
overview page of the OIS. The OIS is configured to allow operators to
monitor, trend and store in real time, the coal quality process within the
wash plant.

Users are be able to navigate through the COALSCAN CITECT display

system with the keyboard and mouse functions. The analyser trend,
mimic and operational displays will be viewable and optionally
selected through the aforementioned methods. The COALSCAN
CITECT program runs in a Windows 2000 or Windows NT environment,
and uses the features of the Windows Graphical User Interface –
graphics screens (pages), buttons and the arrow shaped cursor that is
moved by the mouse

1 OVERVIEW OF COMMON ELEMENTS

All information pages have a similar layout with common elements along
the top, left and bottom of the screen (Figure 1.0). Below is a general
explanation of this standard template.

Figure 1.1 – Information Page

Top section of template

The first line of the template screen displays warning and information
messages and the current time and date. The second line of the top
section of the template displays the latest alarm and time of the alarm.
Additionally, there are several function buttons, namely; login button,
logout button, unacknowledged alarm button, alarm summary, hardware
alarms signal, disabled alarms signal and a button that toggles pop-up
help to be either ‘on’ or ‘off’ (when the mouse is positioned over any of the
buttons, a description of the button’s function is displayed in a yellow pop-
up information box).

3 DESCRIPTION OF PAGE DETAILS

Below is a detailed description of the individual COALSCAN CITECT pages.

3.1 SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The System Overview window displays the relevant COALSCAN

measurement data: % Ash in coal, % Total Moisture in coal, Energy
measured in the coal, % Sulphur in coal, % Iron Oxide in the ash, Total
Tonnes of coal measured for the relevant period (Figure 3.1). The
abovementioned parameters are provided on an Instantaneous, a Tonnes
Weighted result, a Shift Average, a Daily Average and two predefined
Rolling Average periods. These measurement periods are explained
below.

Figure 3.1 – System Overview window

Instantaneous Ash is a predefined measurement period. This timing

period can vary between 2 and 10 minutes and can be preset in the
Utilities page (see Utilities section).

Tonnes Weighted (T.W.) average is an accumulated result, which can be

reset by the user. By clicking on the T.W. Average button, the user can
reset all the measurement fields in this accumulator (the display results
may take up to 2 minutes to reset). Once reset, the accumulator divides
the Tonnes Weighted result for all the relevant measurement data. (This
can be used for a total sample collection or stockpile building).

Shift Average provides measurement information for each shift. (The

default Shift period begins at 07h00 and is reset again at 19h00 each day.

6 26/10/2010
CITECT USER MANUAL

This start and stop time and period are configurable within the COALSCAN
9500.)

Daily Average provides measurement information for each day. (The

default Daily period begins at 07h00 and is reset again each day at 07h00.
This time is configurable within the COALSCAN unit.)

Clicking on either the Rolling Average 1 or Rolling Average 2 buttons can

set up rolling Averages. A choice of time periods between 10 minutes and
24 hours can be selected. The same rolling average can be accessed from
the Utilities screen.

A trend graph is displayed below the current results. The trend graph will
display the coal quality parameters as a function of time. All the
information for the trends will be logged continuously so that the
operators will be able to view past trends as well as current trends.
Immediately above the trend graph are a series of buttons, which enable
the user to navigate the cursor along the current trend page. Navigation
buttons include: Move cursor left quickly, Move cursor left slowly, Remove
cursor, Move cursor right slowly and Move cursor right quickly. There are
seven buttons immediately to the right of the navigation buttons. They
represent ash, moisture, energy, sulphur, iron oxide in ash, calcium in
ash and tons respectively. Each of these buttons is identifiable by a trend
colour.

Immediately right of the trend graph, there are two ´current pen selected’
scale buttons. Using these buttons, the lower and higher limits can be set
for the current trend.

Below the trend graph on the left hand side there is a current trend span
selection button. This allows the current display trend span to be adjusted
from a short period (e.g. 10 minutes) to a very long period (e.g. 12 hours).
Immediately below this button is a resolution button, which is
interdependent with the current trend span button. This variable should
not be adjusted manually. The navigation buttons at the base of the
graph enable the user to scroll the length of the current trend span with
the following options: Scroll trend left one span, Scroll trend left half a
span, Scroll trend right half a span, Scroll trend right one span and Scroll
trend to real time. The next group of buttons enable the user to zoom in
on the trend, zoom out of the trend, copy the graph to clipboard, copy to
file and print the trend. The final set of buttons to the right enable the
user to specify an end time and end date for the current trend span.

Various parameters relating to the current COALSCAN status are displayed

below the trend graph details. The first parameter provides the operator
with information on the current COALSCAN operating mode (either IDLE,
STANDARDISE or ANALYSE). The following field indicates whether all
detectors are analysing (DETECTORS ALIGNING or DETECTORS ALIGNED).
The next field provides information on the coal flow through the analyser
(COAL FLOW OK or COAL FLOW FAULT). The last field indicates whether
the source is on or off (SOURCE ON or SOURCE OFF).

3.2 TREND PAGE

A trend page will display the coal quality parameters as a function of time.
This trend page is similar to the trend graph described in the System
Overview Section (Figure 3.2). The trend graph buttons provide the same
functionality as described in the system overview page. However, for
completeness they are described again below:

Figure 3.2 – Trend Page

The trends will be displayed in real time on the trends page or on the
overall system view page. All the information for the trends will be logged
continuously so that the operators will be able to view past trends as well
as current trends.

All variables that are trended will be assigned trend tags and logged in
CITECT History Database Files. Each variable displayed on the trend
page will be represented by a line of specific colour and plotted on the
trend page against time. The operator will have the option of selecting
and positioning a slide wire cursor at a selected time to display the value
of a trend at the slide wire selected time. Additionally, the operators can
scroll horizontally across the trend graph by using the trend control
buttons.
