Read Me First!

Hello. My name is Kelvin Moore. Kindly allow me to communicate something with

you regarding who I am and the structure of my Old Testament Survey on-line class.

I am a husband of 26 years. My wife is also a teacher. She spent some years in the
classroom but for the past few years has been in administration.

I am a father of two children. Our oldest is a Union University graduate and a teacher
(4th grade). Our youngest is a senior at Union this fall.

I am an educator. I have taught at Union for nineteen years. I am a Samford University

(Birmingham) graduate. I hold two degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary. I have done additional work at Jerusalem University College, Israel.

I enjoy hobbies of wood-working and working in the yard. Our family loves dogs.
Currently, we have two dogs. Our dachshund (Nathan Bedford Forrest—we call him
Nate) is an inside dog (our previous dachshund was named Pierre Gustave Toutant-
Beauregard—we called him Beau). Our mixed breed (Abby Louise—with two
cowlicks on her head) is an outside dog. Abby found her way to our home as a starved,
frightened puppy and we adopted her.

The structure of my on-line class is simple. You want to read the syllabus carefully,
making sure that you understand requirements and expectations. You want to pay close
attention to the “Reading Assignments” (Roman numeral VIII). I have divided the
course into assigned readings. I encourage you to read my “Introductory Notes”
initially and then read the biblical material (the biblical material is listed according to
book and chapters. For example, the first biblical reading is listed as “Genesis.” In
addition to my “Introductory Notes,” you are expected to read the book of Genesis.
When I have listed chapters, then you need to read only the chapters in that particular
book (Exodus 1-12, 13:1-20:21 for example). Exam questions will be taken from both
my “Introductory Notes” and the Bible (you may want to underscore in your Bible,
highlight, write in the margins, etc). I will attempt to ask questions that are obvious to
the careful reader. Exams are open-note and open-Bible. I have provided a list of 100
questions. I expect you to answer all of the questions throughout the semester.
Students will need to create a Word document, re-type the question and answer the
question as they relate to the readings. At the end of the semester, you must submit
your answers inside blackboard. Since your answers are a tangible measure of your
actual reading, failure to submit any of the answers will result in a grade of “F.”
Should a student submit some but not all of the answers, his/her grade will be adjusted
according to my discretion. But, a student who fails to answer all of the questions
cannot earn an “A” for the course. I am not necessarily looking for right answers but I
am looking for some answers and I am looking for a good effort. My on-line class
objective is two-fold: I want you to read and learn about the Old Testament and, for
future reference, I want you to be able to locate and reread Abraham, David, Proverbs,
etc., with a general understanding.
I will be on-line (in Blackboard) Tuesday, August 24 at 10 am and 9 pm, Wednesday,
August 25 at 8 am and at 9 pm to answer questions. I will check Blackboard
periodically for future questions. I encourage you to check Blackboard daily for
announcements, etc.

Should you have questions, concerns, issues, etc., you may email me within
Blackboard. My office hours are posted on my door (Jennings Hall #338). You may
attempt to contact me in the office at 731.661.5265 or come to my office. Good luck!
