TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM

Brandon Leavell / ETEC 424.01W / 3/10/2019

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY - LAPTOPS
• Whether at home, school, or work, laptops greatly improve the functional
capabilities of disabled students.
• Note taking is more efficient using a laptop as it is a more flexible and
quicker method. Files can also be saved on the computer instead of having
to worry about lost or ripped up papers.
• Information is very accessible as there are tons of educational resources to
utilize online, which can result in improvements of student performance.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
• While pursuing my degree area of kinesiology, I
have had years of experience in exercising at the
gym, training clients as a certified personal trainer,
and increasing my knowledge base along the way.
• Some valuable aspects I have learned so far
include: how to design effective individualized
exercise programs, how to give proper exercise
instruction with the usage of modeling and verbal
cues, how to motivate others, how to behave
professionally, and expanding my knowledge on
healthy dietary habits.
MY HOBBIES
• Exercising at the gym

• Hiking

• Playing guitar

• Songwriting

• Creating YouTube videos

PHILOSOPHY OF CLASSROOM
TECHNOLOGY
• My philosophy regarding technology
usage in the classroom is that it must be
beneficial to enhance student learning
and motivation. Students absorb and
learn information in many different ways,
so I want to include a wide variety of
technological resources to meet the
diverse unique learning styles of my
students.
UTILIZING TECHNOLOGY
• As an educator, it is important to utilize
technology in a way where all students can
benefit from its usage in terms of being
engaged in the active learning process.

• In addition, technology is extremely important

to my role as an educator as it will greatly
improve my time management and
organization with tasks such as grading,
planning, and communicating.
FAVORITE THEORY
• My favorite theory is behaviorism, which states,
“all behaviors are the result of experience. Any
person, regardless of his or her background, can
be trained to act in a particular manner given
the right conditioning” (Cherry, 2018).
• Essentially, this theory promotes the idea that our
responses to external stimuli surrounding us will
mold our behavior and actions.
• Some ways of applying this theory in the
classroom would be to use reinforcements,
punishments, and token economies.
NEW TEACHING METHODS
• The most valuable teaching method I have discovered this semester is
integrating technology into the classroom for lessons. Using technology can
greatly increase student engagement in the learning process. I would be
able to display images and videos for students to visualize new concepts
and I could also include many educational programs with technology.
TECHNOLOGY AND SCHOOL
CULTURE
How technology has changed school culture:

- Increases student interaction in the learning process

- Provides visualization to visual learners
- Expands access to educational tools
- Enhanced communication
- Students may have more experience than the teacher
- School relies on technology more (i.e. iPads for students)
TECHNOLOGY IMPACT ON
STUDENTS
• One example of how technology impacts student skills is by using Google
Docs. Students can post their work online and be critiqued by the teacher
and classmates. Chris Davis states, “This feedback leads to revisions, clearer
expression, improved structure, and more clearly expounded ideas” (Davis,
2018). By monitoring student progress of revising and editing a document, it is
a great method of assessing how well students are improving.

• In addition, engaging with technology can bring new and exciting

challenges for students to overcome and learn from as they experiment with
different applications.
TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION TO
LESSON PLANS
Some ways I will incorporate technology into my lesson plans are:

- Projecting a timer on screen to show students how much time remains

- Play music while students engage in activities
- Using a microphone headset to effectively communicate instructions
- Create lesson plans and input grades
- Use pedometers to track students’ steps
