Style and Text:

•  I chose to split my article page into 3 justified columns in order to create a clean,
professional and polished aesthetic, to appeal to my sophisticated target hegemonic
readership.
•  My article is placed on the left, while the image of the model is on the right; I chose
to do so in order to conform to conventions of the articles pages this genre.
•  The title and subheading of the article are big and bold and clearly tell the reader what
this article is about: the life of Crea Butlin. The artist’s name creates synergy between
the article and the model, and also with the front cover.
•  There is also a small extract quoted from the articles, giving a little more information
to the reader. This is information is out of context and so raises enigma codes, further
encouraging the audience to read the article.
•  The black cursive serif font connotes class, sophistication and femininity, appealing to
my female hegemonic target audience, and the small font size implies to the target
audience that they are getting a bang for their buck. Also the black colour of the font
contrasts against the white background, making it stand out and easier to read.

Image:
•  My article page features one image of Crea Butlin, with high key lighting, in a high angle long mid shot that off Crea’s dress and diamond
earrings. She is looking up at the camera, which makes her seem more vulnerable to the audience, putting the latter in a position of
power. Although, the model’s very open body language indicates confidence, relaxation and power; hence, the audience may feel on par
with the model in regard to superiority.
•  The model uses direct mode of address, which helps the audience engage with the model and raises enigma codes due to her serious
expression, prompting the audience to read the article.
•  High key lighting is used here to create a brighter, uplifting atmosphere for the audience, in order to evoke uplifting emotions within them
and hence attracting them to my magazine.
•  The model is wearing a royal blue dress, which was seen previously in the contents page, this helps create synergy and continuity for my
magazine, and allows the magazine to flow more easily and better. The blue connotes confidence, luxury and calm, and the model is
sitting back with her arms spread out on the arms of her chair, which suggests her importance and the gives the impression that she is
fearless, not scared of being vulnerable and confident within herself. This will appeal to my younger female target audience who will
identify (Blumler & Katz) with her and aspire to be like the celebrity featured in this magazine. The blue dress has a sophisticated style,
and looks like a high-end gown, making it appeal to my female hegemonic target audience.
•  I used a black, white and blue colour scheme, the white and blue are prevalent throughout all my magazine pages, creating synergy.
However, the blue most striking here, as it signifies the colour my magazine associates with Crea: the colour that signifies confidence,
calm and trust.
